*Only used photo functions, this is a review of using this for event photographyI rented the 5D IV to capture an event, and it greatly surpassed my expectations. Having never used this camera before, it felt effortless to get used to. If you’ve used a DSLR, you can use this. Everything was very ergonomically laid out and the way it interprets light and color is very impressive. I’m finding myself doing much less post work on the images than I normally have had to in the past. It feels great in your hand and somehow the feeling of releasing the shutter gives you a very satisfying feeling. It’s no wonder this has been a workhorse In so many photographers tool boxes. I will be renting this again for sure.

I'm not a photographer nor a videographer but when googling the best camera for shooting music videos, the 5D4 Mark IV immediately popped up. Without having any prior knowledge or experience on this camera, I began doing my very intensive research on this product. As a current owner of a Canon XA10, the 5D4 is a great upgrade!I've only been interested in recording great cinematic videos & had no knowledge of the little things that you should take account of when seeking to produce great quality videos using this camera.1. Definitely purchase a battery grip. It may add some weight to your device but it's well worth it!2. Videos recorded on this device does not record on both memory cards & it does not relay. You can only record to one card. Recording videos to your CF card is the way to go! How it works is you first record for the first 29 minutes. Once you stop at 29 minutes, you can immediately begin to record for another 29 minutes. Once that's done, you may have about 5 to 7 minutes of recording time left before your card fills up. Videos recorded to your SD card will only record for a couple of minutes before stopping.3. Canon Log is a great asset to have on your camera but you may want to also download Cinestyle to help assist your Canon Log. You can find Cinestyle at www.technicolor.com. When editing your videos, The paid version of Davinci Resolve is also the way to go. Your recorded material will look very professional & cinematic.4. last but not least purchase lens filters! Amazon has some great filters that will work great on your investment. The 5D Mark IV for me is a beautiful camera that is my go to for everything video related. I love what this camera produces and would recommend it to anyone from entry level to professional. Canon has some great cinematic cameras that I may venture into in the future but for now, I'm going to stick with the my trusted partner, the 5D Mark IV.

I've liked everything about this camera... but there's a few issues. I'm a portrait photographer and I think a few simple things are missing from this camera, but it gets the job done. This one may be controversial, but I miss having a simple on-camera flash. Need a flash in a pinch? Too bad. Get out your external & diffuser and make sure they're handy. Want a double SD card slot? Nope, not on this camera. Yes, there's a compact flash slot, but those are out of date (2022)! I've never even used it with one. Want to take a photo from above your head and turn the lcd screen to see it? No, sorry that option isn't available on this model.I've also recently ran into a few repairs with this body. The shutter is known for failing. I was a guest at a stylized shoot ... MoreI've liked everything about this camera... but there's a few issues. I was a guest at a stylized shoot (thankfully not a paid session) and we were just getting to the good part and my camera fails on me. Mirror/shutter is locked up and the only way to "quick fix" is to pop the battery out than back in... wish I knew that at that moment! Few hundred dollars in messing around with repairs and a shipping nightmare with UPS later, and I've only owned this camera for a year & a half. My beginner camera has lasted longer than that.
As a longtime shooter of the 5D series of Canon EOS cameras, the 5D Mark IV offers the highest quality images and best low lightcapabilities so far. I began my relationship with Canon using the 20D then the first 5D and then the 5D Mark II which I shot with for 15 years. I wanted to change things up and considered switching to The Fujifilm mirrorless system. I was looking into the X-T4 and the X-Pro3. After renting the X-Pro3 and shooting with it for a few days as well as reading endless reviews of these cameras, I finally decided to stick with the Canon DSLR system. I'm glad I did as it offers a level of control I don't get with cameras with an electronic viewfinder. Being able to see what the lens sees as well as allowing me to control the aperture, shutter ... I'm glad I did as it offers a level of control I don't get with cameras with an electronic viewfinder. Being able to see what the lens sees as well as allowing me to control the aperture, shutter speed and ISO quickly and on the fly is extremelycomfortable and natural to the way I shoot. I do love the Fuji X series of cameras and I own the X-100V, but to me, I don't have the comfort level I do with the 5D Mark IV. So far, I've only used the camera for one professional shoot but I was able to customize it to how I had my 5D Mark II setup. The images created using the 5D Mark IV paired with the 24-70mm L glass is phenomenal. Shooting in RAW, I have such wonderful control and the ability to fine tune the highlights and shadows. I could care less about the video capabilities and really wish this camera was available without the video feature. There doesseem to be a perpetual number of customizations that I'll need to work through. I wish Canon (or any camera brand) would develop a still photography only camera with very straight forward menus and controls. Basically, a film camera with a digital sensor without spending Leica prices. Having said that, the Canon 5D Mark IV feels great in the hand, is very intuitive, features a great optical view finder and is built like a tank. I held off upgrading my 5D Mark II for many years but I'm glad I finally did as I saved several dollars overthe original price when it was first released.
At over 30 MP with 4K video this is the best camera I haveever owned. It fits my hand like a glove.Since my previous camera was the 5Dmrk3 my handis already familiar with where the buttons are and the setup that I prefer. I can set any of the exposure triangle settings without ever taking my eye from the viewfinder. It has over 60 focal points and I find it hard to not take agood picture. This camera is totally customizable on the setup. There is notmuch that I cannot do with it.It has a huge array of lenses to choose from and since I didn'tgo with the EOS-R series camera I can use them all without adapters or having to re-buy them all.The weight and size of the camera is perfect for my hands.I feel that the newer EOS-R series cameras need a ... I was super excited to make the switch from Nikon to Canon and get this camera in my hands after shooting Nikon for 15 years.. I got the 50mm f/1.2L to go with it.. I had focus issues.. like 30% of my photos were not focused correctly. It would back-focus. I took it in to my camera shop and they calibrated the lens to the camera and it still didn't fix it. Thought maybe it was the lens, so I tried the 24-70 and same issue.. Talked to a few other photographers and they also had the same issues with the camera. The chromatic aberration was also awful! It was all over everything in the photo! I've never seen that before. Have never had focus issues or bad chromatic aberration with Nikon. Also, with Nikon, I can set my settings in Manual mode and can flip to aperture ... Also, with Nikon, I can set my settings in Manual mode and can flip to aperture mode and it keeps the same aperture that I set in manual mode. In the Canon, I had to set them separately. So if I changed my aperture while shooting in manual and popped into aperture mode, if I wasn't paying attention, I was shooting with a different aperture. For what the equipment cost, I would expect consistency in my camera and lens so I'm not having to cross my fingers and hope my shot is in focus. I also felt like some of the buttons on the back weren't necessary to be there and they could have put better function buttons in their place. Unfortunately, I missed my return date with B&H and could only sell back the equipment and lost about $1500.. Went back to Nikon...
I am no professional photographer. I am a hobbyist photographer. This camera was an upgrade from my Canon 6D mark II. At the time of this review, I have only shot around 100 pictures. The 5d Mark IV will allow you to take more control of your focusing points, focus areas as well as more custom functions. It has been an adjustment for me, but I knew this before I bought it. Reading the reviews and watching the editorials, it has not let me down. The weather is mid winter now with not many colors in nature. I don't have a certain subject matter that I shoot, but I have shot both outside and inside pictures. They have not disappointed me. I believe with more practice, this camera will be a natural as my 6D Mk II. I decided not to go with mirror less at this time and ... MoreI am no professional photographer. Canon has been my choice from the beginning and I will be a die hard Canon user. I purchased this camera from B&H Photo and Video. I have purchased equipment from them before. They did not disappoint me this time either! They even had it stock! I ordered the camera on a Tuesday and received it the next day! This was fantastic! B&H has never let me down and I will continue to use them.
Just purchased this second 5DMarkIVI, having previously owned a 5DMarkII and 5DMarkIII. (I always shoot with two bodies, each with a prime lens.) There is something about the ergonomics of these cameras that just works. I have found them to be incredibly reliable and rugged, having experienced inevitable mishaps during years of heavy use.Using L glass produces simply lovely images. More current cameras have better specs, but honestly, for me don't produce any better images unless shooting at ISO 3200 or higher.I tried the newer R series/mirrorless camera, but found it to be terribly unbalanced. Putting an 85mm f1.2 lens on the front of one of those cameras makes it difficult to obtain anything near a natural balance. Plus, the 85 f1.2 lens for the mirrorless ... Plus, the 85 f1.2 lens for the mirrorless camera actually weighs more than the same lens for this EOS camera. Go figure. All to say, I plan to stay with this system as long as I can and hope whatever is released down the line fits my needs.
