Canon EOS 800D Kit EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 Is STM Lens

***(update at bottom) I looked up "top 10 affordable cameras for professional photography" and this camera popped up in my Google search. My husband surprised me with the Rebel t7 bundle camera kit, it had good photo examples online from other photographers and was one of the most affordable cameras on the "top 10" list I found. We purchased it from Best Buy around Christmas for at least $200 less than it's advertised price. I love Canon and Nikon so I have been playing around with this one a lot. Honestly, my 10+ year old Canon DSLR point and shoot has been my favorite and still is. Although the t7 camera is nice, it's not as user friendly as I'd prefer. I have to play around with it more though. The flash is a little bright which is nice for pics further away, but a little too bright for me when I take photos of our family up close. I need to take more photos with perfect lighting I guess. I may receive better photos 9/10 with my older Canon, but when the photos are clear and the lighting is perfect, the photos are better with the t7. I wish it was faster with action photos (for travel, my son, our pets, which is why I bought it) but I need to adjust the settings more. I wish the focus was easier to adjust and the wifi was easier to use. I like to take photos at night with little flash, it was quite a bit more difficult with the t7 compared to other cameras I've used, even in the night mode settings; the photos either didn't show any of the light or had much flash at night. I prefer the customizable settings the most, compared to the auto functions. I will have to watch a few tutorials and read the pamphlet on how to use, which I usually hate doing, but for a camera at this price it's necessary. Can't wait to see what it can do!***Edit: after playing with the settings to get the best settings for us, I love this camera. It's the best I've ever used. Easy to focus. Easy to transfer photos. Great for travel and on the road. Love how user friendly it is. Love to edit from the camera. The wifi setting is the best. The lens is perfect for leveling photos while driving. The manual focus settings are my favorites, I feel like a pro when using it. This is the closest thing to a national geographic style photo, which for me is unnecessary, that I want to get. Definitely worth the investment! I love that it came with two different lenses, the smaller is great for close up family pics and the larger is better for landscape photos. The speed is great when driving; I took a few photos today using action mode in Salt Lake City of mountains, and the photos came out almost as clear while standing and photographing as they were while driving and shooting, which is pretty impressive! I have better photos I'll have to upload when I have more time. Can't wait to take some family photos with our tripod.

I love this camera! It’s a great starter camera. After pouring in many hours of research, I settled on the TS7. I still have a big learning curve when it comes to the camera’s features, but have included a photo taken on one of the preset modes. Love that the settings include options like sport, for fast moving moments, all the way to crisp video. I do think the bundle is not a necessity. I found out really quickly that I valued having a Zoom lens, but could do with our most other bells and whistles.

AUTO to me, is for the "Brownie" generation. Nothing other than resizing to fit the format of this review and just a slight bit of sharpening is all that has been done to it. Actually it was pretty sharp as it was right out of the camera. Put a Canon 250D 58mm close up lens or maybea RAYNOX on the front of this kit lens and you have a fairly respectable macro lens. Examples of a Crane-fly orchid leaf are alsoincluded using that set-up to provide credence. I have read so many bad reviews, not just here but elsewhere too, concerning this camera and its kit lens, some so sad they could be made into a movie, it leaves me wondering just who wrote them and what they expected to begin with. In conclusion, if one is having a hard time, take the booklet that came with this camera, place it on a small stool or table in your bathroom, by the toilet and sit down and read it from time to time! You might be pleasantly surprised at how good a photographs you will end up taking later on and just how much better you will feel afterwards when leaving. One thing, for all you "Tubers and Tweeters," I don't do video, I'm a still image close-up and macro shooter, so I cannot attest to its value there. So, if you need a niceversatile dSLR camera that is easy to use, "light enough to carry about ones neck all day long" and takes great photos by the way, buy it . . . from B & H of course!

Amazing camera for the price!

I received my t8i about 2 weeks ago and have been playing with it ever since to see how well it performs. Let me just say that the quality of the photos and videos are amazing! You wouldn’t expect this kind of performance from a beginner DSLR, if you can call it that. The high ISO range gives incredible flexibility with shutter speed and in lowlight, which will produce some great results.The ability to get 4K resolution using just the kit lens is pretty cool, but pairing the camera with a quality prime or zoom lens takes it to another level. I personally have it paired with the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 most of the time, and the results are incredible!The bottom line is this may be the best camera you can get without shelling out over $1000 for a camera body. Buyer Beware - Not as Advertised!

First, I haven't tried the camera yet, as the battery is charging. But, this is my second purchase of this "bundle" via the Walmart website. The first came with only the camera - no accessories. Walmart and I both tried to contact the 3rd party seller, OneStopShop, and never received a call back after at least 8 attempts. I returned the camera and ordered again, as it is the best price around. This time it took ElectronicsRUs two weeks to get the camera from Brooklyn, NY to CT (honestly, I could have walked to Brooklyn and back in 2 days!). If not, it goes right back and I never do business through Walmart 3rd party sellers again.In Walmart's defense, their customer service team handled my many calls professionally, efficiently, and pleasantly. I have nothing but respect for their CSR team. I am very wary of how the 3rd party sellers are vetted though.

Excellent Starter Camera

This model had rave reviews for the amateur photographer due to its ease of use and user friendly setup.So far, I cannot fault it. It came with the 18-55mm kit lens. So whilst this cannot compete with the mid-range and professional lenses it allows the beginner to try their hand at a bit of landscape (18mm) and portrait (55 mm) techniques. This allows the user try different things and understand what can be achieved with all the camera settings lens and lens focal lengths. Just be aware that this camera uses a cropped sensor instead of a full size sensor (as is the case with most entry level and some mid-level cameras). This means for the Canon you have to multiply the focal length of a lens by 1.6. So if you see a tutorial for a 50mm lens, on the Canon 800D this equates to a focal length of 50mm x 1.6 = 80mm.

I bought this 800D (same as T7i) camera specifically to use as a high-end full HD webcam with the EOS webcam utility using USB connection directly to host computer. I searched for any Canon EOS series that supported Dual-Pixel Autofocus with live-tracking face-detection that would work well with the Canon EF-series lenses that I already have. This model (which is not the current model) meets all my needs and was available at significant discount compared to the newest T8i model (which has additional features I don't need). I paired this 800D body with the EF 35mm f/2 IS USM lens (which is equivalent to 50mm on a full-frame body). The face-detection autofocus is better and faster than my 5D IV, or C100 II cinema cameras. Silent, fast, perfect focus, continuously, all day long. I use a dummy-battery with external adapter to power the camera from AC so I don't have to worry about battery life. The touchscreen flips-out and faces forward, automatically flipping the image so I can monitor what the camera sees (with data overlay and focus box). I am not using the Auto white-balance. There are limited options for custom white balance on this model, but I am using 5200K to match my light-source, and the resulting color, contrast, skin-tones looks really excellent. This looks as good as the 5D IV at 6X lower price! Audio: When used as a webcam, regardless of whether you connect an external mic or use the built-in mic - note that you will not get audio out of the USB webcam interface, or the HDMI out. So plan on using some other source, connected separately to your host computer for audio. This 800D will only provide the video. If you are looking for "clean" HDMI out, it is only possible to get this by turning-off all menu/info displays, AND switching-off autofocus. If you need the autofocus (the whole point of using the camera), then the HDMI out will have focus overlays. So I would not recommend using this as an HDMI webcam. The EOS Webcam utility over USB works very well, but does have noticeable latency. If you have the ability to delay your audio to the host, then you can get perfect lip-sync, even with the latency of the USB interface. I have not used this as an everyday DSLR, but I am quite impressed at the nice build-quality, great image quality, and nice compact size. I might consider this as a travel camera instead of the big, heavy 5D in the future.

Great compact & lightweight DSLR

After my old EOS 30D, this DSLR appears to be extremely compact and lightweight, great for long outdoor photo walks, feels nice in my hands. After almost 2 years of use, it still works perfectly. For a passionate amateur photographer - professional wannabe like me, it's a great camera. I am super happy with its features and the quality of the images. Nicely built and easy in use. The image sensor is awesome, even in low light conditions the images are stunning. 24.2 MP allows to produce very high resolution images, yet with narrow apertures the sharpness might be affected, depending on the settings and the lens used. But since there was the same issue on my old EOS 30D, I'm kind of used to it now and can take this into account. This problem is avoided than shooting from a very handy LCD touch screen, but I still prefer to use the viewfinder most of the times. The video quality is quite good, but the sound quality could be much better. Even though I mainly use manual settings, there are also a couple of automatic shooting modes that I enjoy to use sometimes: the toy-effect is a lot of fun to play around with and the night mode produces great quality night photos, way better than I can make with the manual settings and my technical skills so far. The self-cleaning sensor is also a big plus.

Shutter Button Sticking

I was not satisfied with this particular rental. I will say that in the past I have had much success with Lens Rentals.The event that I attended was really fast paced and required me to move lots of people in and out of the photo section. My speed was dramatically decreased due to the shutter button sticking and the camera un-tethering on its own for no particular reason.I made it through the event but it was definitely an inconvenience to my customers and had a negative impact on the profits generated.
