Pros: It is lighter than the D90 it has replaced and the fast frame rate is spot on for action and BIF photography. Dual card slots is another plus.Cons: Not having the ability to add a battery grip to this camera is potentially an issue. Spare batteries have to be readily available and on hand. The read rate and buffer can be an issue if trying to capture long burst sequences.

Pros: Lovely piece of kit. Nice and light In the hand. Great features, particularly image stabilisation and high burst rate. Perfect rear screen. Useful exterior buttons (such as ISO adjustment).Cons: Viewfinder could be better, Canon should have built a battery grip. No way of adjusting the burst speed. Noisy in poor light. Unique controls.

Fabulous images, but not great for glove-wearers.
2 December 2022

Early days, but the R7 has so far pretty much lived up to high expectations and has instantly lifted my wildlife photography to another level. Just two quibbles. At high ISOs the images are very noisy - though they are very high ISOs that I couldn't get at all with previous cameras. More seriously, if, like me, you have to wear gloves, it's much too easy to change all the settings without meaning to - which can lead to pics messed up in all sorts of ways. The Lock button is one answer, but not a perfect one since you then can't change settings quickly when you do mean to.

Fantastic enthusiast camera
14 July 2022

Coming from a Sony a7iv I was looking for something for travel and casual photography. The body and lens are far more manageable and less imposing. The autofocus is sharp and sticky but the Sony after the firmware update wins it. Light is the enemy of a aps-c camera and performance is impacted vs full-frame but the r7 fits perfectly for someone that’s not a professional who wants a camera with everything but will really only use the auto and the brilliant 4K fine settings.

John's review of Canon EOS R7 Mirrorless Camera Body
26 September 2022

Pros: Good all round for sports and wildlife. Not so good on aurora shoots as full frame like R5. Tracking of autofocus good. Live running DOF is a nice feature and new I think to Canon. ISO I'd use is fairly good. I'll go up to 6400 on this one.Cons: A couple of the back buttons a little too close together. Some people would like a third select dial maybe.

Peter's review of Canon EOS R7 Mirrorless Camera Body
29 November 2022

Pros: I find the image quality from this camera not much talked about online, yet to my eyes it is excellent, especially for a cropped sensor. The Jpegs from the camera have a nice colour on the canon profiles and the RAW files have a reasonable dynamic range with less noise than I was expecting. Also easily removed with software. The features of the camera, such as IBIS, the in-camera focus stacking and the high frame rate make it good value.Cons: It is annoying that Canon keep changing the controls on their R series bodies. Whilst personally I like the positioning of the dial around the focus track pointer, why have they not included a third dial as on the R5 and previous 5 and 1 series bodies? Also the back button positioning is inconsistent. Also the back button positioning is inconsistent. This makes it moving from one body to another more difficult and I miss shots as a result. In my view Sony have got this aspect right by making their bodies more similar to use. I am not against Canon trying new things like the touch slider on the EOS R and innovating, but this needs to be done whilst keeping more compatibility across the camera range. Imagine cars with the accelerator and the brakes not in the same place and no gear control (ring for the ISO)... Some more memory for the buffer and a stacked sensor would be nice, but that would be a different price.

Simon's review of Canon EOS R7 Mirrorless Camera Body
26 January 2023

Pros: There are many but the auto focus is amazing, the auto tracking for wildlife is very impressive. Frame speed is off the chart too. Initial use shows excellent exposure and sharpness.Cons: Not sure why the on/off switch is on the right, where all recent EOS cameras it was on left. Top display would be a bonus but the price point for the R7 is very good, more stuff increases the price!

Very nice camera with a very slight question mark
1 November 2022

This camera body works very nicely. I am comparing it to my previous camera a Canon 7D. The R7 focuses well and has much better high ISO performance than the 7D. I have taken of one star as in some circumstances it can be difficult to find the subject in the electronic view finder. This has happened twice in shots with a confused back ground. Distant ducks on reflecting water and a macro shot of a spider on a web. I could not find the spider in the view finder. This issue might be because I am using the wrong settings or user error. Overall I am very pleased with the camera.

Wonderful, speed, tracking, etc

I waited 6 months... frustrated...But, when I got it and tried it out, well, my goodness me! What a bit of kit. Don't be put off by it's size or the layout of controls, you soon get used to them. And, used with the RF LENSES, it is so fast and accurate. I have also used it with the RF-EF/EFS Adaptor and works well but maybe just a bit slower.I have even traded in my 90D as it is now , well, not quite as good, or is that just my personal feeling? If you are going for it, I am sure you won't be disappointed
