Recently I found that during picture review if you touch the middle right or left part of the screen it will move to the next or previous picture file. Today I discovered if you hold your finger at that point that it will quickly scroll through pictures, forward or reverse, to quickly locate a picture file I'm searching for.4) The menu structure is well laid out making it easy and quick to locate a feature that I want to adjust.5) The touch screen has cell phone features so you can zoom and shrink the displayed image by moving your fingers apart or together and can scroll by swiping your finger across the screen. Today I also discovered that if you hold one finger at a point on the screen and move another finger away that it will zoom in from that point on the image or conversely shrink the image on that point by moving the second finger towards the fixed first one.6) The image quality is very good, even with mild digital zoom. The large sensor and high megapixel count allow this digital zooming which I have never used in a previous camera because of pixelization. The design of the zoom is well thought out and if you are zooming in it will stop at the end of the ootical zoom range and to used digital zoom you must let off on the zoom lever and apply it again. This feature prevents you from going into digital zoom range accidently.6) I like the shutter preferred, aperture preferred and full manual modes. I recently tried taking a picture from a flat screen TV and it showed some scan lines. I switched to shutter speed preferred mode and reduced the shutter speed to 1/30 second and the resulting image was good.Let me sum up by saying I could go on for a long time but suffice it to say I highly recommend this camera to anyone who wants a major step above what they have available with their cell phone cameras but don't want a big bulky camera to tote around. It is quite small and easily fits into a pocket. For those migrating from a cell phone camera the learning curve should be minimal because many of the cell phone features they are used to are programmed into the smart touch screen of the camera.

I do think that it runs a little bit pricey to be honest, but Im happy with the purchase, and would probably buy it again if something happened to this one. The seller had a great price however. The best thing about the G9x m2 is, of course, its tiny size. Its well-built, and Ive had no trouble figuring out how to use it without opening the manual. I enjoy shooting on program mode, where I can set a focus, hold the button down halfway, shift the focus, and maintain the desired focus and light metering. Just like with my old NIkon SLR. Some people commented that it is difficult to access basic settings, but that's only in AUTO mode; use P mode instead and you can access all the settings pretty easily without having to search through menus.The only cons I can think of for now are that:a) No 4k video, which personally I couldn't care less for.b)You can't shoot RAW files in the AUTO mode, but you can in every other mode. White balance is quite good, focusing is decent and you can operate it as a fully manual camera if you want to (not as quick to set the settings as with a DSLR, but it's ok for general photography).If there is one area this camera is weak at, it would be action shots, due to the absence of dedicated knobs for aperture and shutter speed. But if you use Av or Tv modes the meter does a pretty good job.

Image quality at web size enlargement is excellent and it can do all kinds of neat tricks if you can figure out how. The size is perfect for a normal pocket or purse. It is quick to start up and the battery life is good. The display is good unless you are in bright sunlight and then it can be almost unusable. You can boost the screen brightness and it helps. If you are accustomed only to cell phone cameras you probably won't mind the lack of a viewfinder. My major complaint is that the user interface in general is fiddly and complicated. For example, there is way too much menu diving and many things are not intuitive to use. Scrolling through items with the zoom switch is difficult to do accurately, it goes too fast. This, for me, means I don't have to change settings as much, and that makes it easier to take pictures except for not having an EVF. I haven't used RAW, the JPEG's, for the most part, look great right out of the camera. The limited 3x optical zoom is enhanced by being able to crop into the image quite a bit and still have a good picture. I set up the WIFI to transfer pictures from camera to computer Win 10 without much trouble. I downloaded the Camera Window DC 8.10.4b software from the Canon website to facilitate the setup. I seldom take indoor pictures, but the ones I took of a birthday gathering turned out well, and I didn't need the flash. I've only shot a few short videos, as I primarily shoot stills, but I was amazed at how clear and sharp the videos were. The touch screen works well for accessing settings as there are few buttons. The downside; it's easy to accidentally touch/bump the screen in the wrong place and change something you didn't want to, especially if you're wearing the camera around your neck. These work well for using a full size strap: OP/TECH USA Mini QD Loops (1 mm) You can enable automatic screen lock, but that doesn't help with accidentally tapping the icon next to the one you actually wanted to tap. For example, I've inadvertently tapped the AUTO ISO icon when I meant to tap the Exposure Compensation icon next to it, changing the ISO from auto to 12800 and ruining some pictures. One thing I really dislike is when reviewing pictures. You can only see overexposure warning 'blinkies' in a thumbnail sized image. This makes it really hard to see the 'blinkies' when photographing something like flowers. In general, I'm well pleased with the camera. In fact, if it had an EVF it could be my only camera. Now that I can see the advantages of a larger sensor, I may purchase a MFT sensor camera to augment my fz200.
This camera is currently available for $399 USD, which makes it hands down the best value in compact cameras right now. Sometimes I don't want to pack along my bigger Fuji system with multiple lenses, so I just bring this along instead. It doesn't disappoint. JPEG images look great straight out of the camera. Or, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty and messing with a RAW file, you've got that option as well. Take some time to dig through the menus to see what options are available to you. The in-camera HDR processor is surprisingly effective. I also use the time lapse video feature as well. Images are reasonably sharp, probably more than I would expect in a camera like this. Power up is quick; just the amount of time it takes for the lens to extend out of its housing. I've used the Canon phone app to transfer photos to my Android device, and it works like a champ.Just know what this camera is good for. You'll get nice shots of your kids indoor birthday party, but probably not of their indoor sports. You don't get much reach with the lens, so you might want to move up to the G7XmkII if you need longer zoom. I'm finding that it's great for travel/nature/landscape work, and an occasional street scene that I might come across.If you just choose this as your only stand-alone camera, I think you're making a good choice. Take some time to learn it and to understand what it can and can't do, and you should get years of great images.
I wanted to like this camera. I watched the YouTube videos and was ready to go. Actually excited, this is my first point and shoot. It turned in to a disaster and took up time I do not have to deal with the following: I turned on the camera and either Chinese or Japanese came up. I went online to find where to change the language. After following the directions several times I concluded that English was not loaded up on the camera. This is unsat for a company supposed to be the best experience in shopping online for cameras. I will likely not use B&H again. I actually expert something like this from Amazon not B&H.It was ordered, shipped and received in the time as paid in time for the trip I was going on. In the first several weeks of owning, Ive had multiple over heatings (in 30-45 degree weather and again in 68 degree weather), random and very poor focusing even after using focus lock, and touch screen failures. The settings even randomly changed and locked itself into place twice, and wouldnt be unset without a full camera reset. The company has no firmware updates and dont seem to be planning any new ones any time soon (it is currently 4/5/19). The camera has many auto features that cant seem to be turned off/on in modes that would otherwise be necessary for someone looking to take a little more professional quality video or photos. So I have to pay an additional $60 for a brand new camera to be repaired.As a cinematographer who used low-end and high-end Nikon, Arri, and Panasonic cinema cameras, I was looking forward to using my first ever Canon camera, even though it was a tiny point-and-click. I have talked to a lot of people who swear by everything Canon, but after this experience, this first Canon purchase will be my last.
Great Camera. I purchased for a trip to Hawaii. I wanted a better camera than my iPhone X. It was worth the purchase. The 1 inch light sensor worked well in low light. The best feature was the ability to shoot in several picture taking modes. I used Auto, AV and Manual the most. This camera took excellent pictures and was fun to use. I recommend purchasing and using ahead of time to get back into a photographers frame of mind. I did this and had no problems. One setting was a little different. It is right next to Auto. Every picture taken in that mode is made into a vignette type slide show. I didn't expect this as the Canon You Tube camera instruction video said this mode gave the photographer the ability to let the camera decide wether it would be in portrait mode ... MoreGreat Camera. I absolutely love it and would recommend it to anyone who’s looking to get a little more quality out of their holiday snaps. It also gives you plenty of scope to craft your DSLR skills before getting a bigger camera with raw image function and other settings.It is very compact and not too heavy - easy to carry around with you. When continuously using I’d say the battery lasts for about 1 day. If on a long trip it would be handy to carry a spare.
