Canon Selphy Square Printer - Pink (QX10)
The Selphy Square QX10 printer prints beautiful, bright, and clear square photos. It picks up smooth gradations, reproduces colors faithfully, and expresses black tones well. It is small and compact, and has a stylish design. The high image quality is due to the Dye-sublimation thermal transfer system. The photos have a glossy appearance and are water and dirt resistant, as well as smear and fade proof, due to the overcoat finish. This finish also ensures that the photos will last for up to 100 years when stored in an album. The compact size of the printer fits in the palm of your hand, so you can easily carry it with you and print images from your smartphone wirelessly.

Remember the classic Polaroid prints that would pop out of the camera and then you'd wait/hope the print would come out OK? Say hello to the much wiser and adept Canon Selphy. This weighs less than a pound, is wireless / wifi powered, with a rechargeable battery for on the go prints. It's just so easy to use - simply download the companion Canon Selphy app to your mobile devices and you can edit & preview the pics you want to print beforehand. The prints are 2.7" x 2.7" and have an adhesive backing, making it easy to place in an album (or just about anywhere). We had a party and printed photos of the guests which were then stuck onto their drink cups - caught a lot of attention! You don't have to use the adhesive, but it was a nice addition if you choose to. ... MoreRemember the classic Polaroid prints that would pop out of the camera and then you'd wait/hope the print would come out OK? I'd highly recommend this - never thought I'd be using the portable aspect as much as I have, great to share those "instant" moments then and there. If you're in the market, Canon's made a superior product!

I just received the new Canon compact photo printer, the Selphy QX10. As a longtime Canon user, I was excited to put it through its paces by downloading the app onto my phone and using the included sample ink cassette and paper. Before I began, I charged the battery via the included cable. Once I determined how to use the app by thoroughly reading the excellent manual, I was on my way. I was impressed with the overall photo quality. Sharpness and color are of high quality for a compact printer. (see the attached photos) I chose three phone photos that would "test" printer's capabilities: a low-light shot, a shot with deeper, saturated colors and a portrait. Prints produced are fast-drying @2.7"x2.7" and Canon indicates that the dye-sub inks will reman stable for 100 ... MoreI just received the new Canon compact photo printer, the Selphy QX10. The printer weighs less than a pound and prints wirelessly. I see this printer being used at social occasions and any time a fast sample print is needed. I've tried the competition (Fuji and Epson); Canon has the superior unit.

Summary: This printer is really cute, compact, and easy to use, but the custom photo paper it requires is annoyingly expensive. I would only recommend buying this printer if you’re okay with paying for the expensive photo paper. If you're buying this to save money on photo prints though, then this printer isn't for you. Pros: -It’s VERY compact!! Smaller than an external hard drive and not much bigger than a can of Diet Coke. (See photo for size comparison.) -The iPhone app is really easy to use and walks you through the setup and printing process step by step. -The iPhone app lets you edit the photo. You can crop it, rotate it, adjust the coloring, and even add text boxes and cute frames (for free). -The prints are the perfect size for hanging on the refrigerator ... MoreSummary: This printer is really cute, compact, and easy to use, but the custom photo paper it requires is annoyingly expensive. You can crop it, rotate it, adjust the coloring, and even add text boxes and cute frames (for free). -The prints are the perfect size for hanging on the refrigerator or using in a small photo frame or photo ornament. -The print quality is much better than using my normal printer to print photos on photo paper. -The Canon photo paper feels very high quality; it’s study and may even be a bit thicker the photo prints you get from the local drugstore. -The printer prints one color at a time so you can see the photo developing as it goes — it's neat to watch! Cons: -Unless you download the iPhone app when you first get the printer, installation and setup are not intuitive at all — even for someone who is tech-savvy. Upon opening the package I wasn’t sure how to use it, where to put the printer ink, or where to put the paper. Even the manual was unhelpful. (The key here is to download the iPhone app immediately — it walks you though installation/ setup.) -The printer paper is very expensive. And since it’s a custom size that’s specific to this brand’s photo printer, the paper is not always available locally, and there aren’t really any less-expensive generic alternatives you can substitute for the expensive brand-name paper. -There’s no way to save edited photos in the app. So if you take time to crop and edit a photo for printing and you later decide you want another print of the same photo, you have to go through the cropping/ editing process again. -There have been a few times when my iPhone app had trouble connecting to the printer for some reason. Since you only reach the “connection” step in the app after editing the photo, it’s frustrating to do all of that and get to the very end and not be able to save or print the photo. -The prints aren’t as good as the ones I get when I print to my local drugstore (although they’re certainly better than some of the local/ mail-order photo-printing services I’ve tried in the past).

Well I must say this is definitely a fun little gadget! Inside the box contained the printer, a connecting charger cord (you must provide your own wall end), an instruction book, three sheets of paper, and a trial size ink cartridge. The instruction book was very basic and did not provide any information about how to install the ink or paper. I downloaded the app and that is where I found useful instructions that told how to actually use this device. I have an Android phone and had no problems downloading and connecting the app to the printer. I used the three included papers and the photo quality is just average. Replacement paper and ink seems to be a bit on the pricey side but so are most other instant print brands that I've compared this too. Overall, this is a fun unit for instant pictures and my kids have gotten a big kick out of it!
The Canon Selphy Square is a pretty fun compact photo printer. Out of the box, the set up was pretty easy, even if the direction booklet was light on the instructions. Downloading the app in the Play Store (for my Android) was easy, and the app stepped me through the setup process. The app is also from where you upload, edit, and print the photos. That process was also relatively easy, but just a little clunky (in my opinion) to reposition a picture. Once I got my photo choice how I wanted it, I hit print and had it in about 20 seconds - very quick! The photo pops in and out of the printer a few times to add the various ink layers, so don't be tricked and snag it right away. (There's a warning message about this very thing in the app, but just another caution.) I ... MoreThe Canon Selphy Square is a pretty fun compact photo printer. (There's a warning message about this very thing in the app, but just another caution.) I did take off one star for a few small reasons: 1. Runs on WiFi, so would be inconvenient/useless if you don't have WiFi access. 2. Photo paper and ink refills appear to be packaged together and rather pricey. 3. I wish there was the option to print to fully fit the photo paper and not with the Polaroid look. Overall, I like the printer and will have fun using it to print Polaroid-styled pictures!
This is a very good little printer. The print speed is snappy, the quality is more than sufficient for its purpose, and it's easily portable. There are a few downsides. One is that there is no easy way to print to it from anything other than your phone (I'm using Android). I CAN print to it using the phone app on my Windows computer that basically mirrors my phone's operation but I may as well just print from my phone then. It would be nice if it would just show up as a network printer I could print directly to from my computer. It would really be great if you could print straight from your camera but that's also not possible. Another quirk is that the app won't access images on your phone's sd card. It would really be great if you could print straight from your camera but that's also not possible. Another quirk is that the app won't access images on your phone's sd card. You can work around that by opening the image in another app then sharing the image to the Selphy app (or copying the image to the phone's internal memory of course). The app isn't very intuitive either. It gets the job done but not well and has very few features. You can add borders and text overlays onto your image but the options for those are extremely limited and there isn't a way to add more of them. Canon is missing out on making money from selling additional frames as add on packs. Lastly, the battery is only good for one box worth of prints which is not ideal. Considering the battery has to move each print 7 times this is somewhat understandable but I would have preferred a removable battery so you could swap with a fresh battery if you need to make more than 20 prints in one go.
I purchased this printer to print pics for my journal. These are reminiscent of polaroids in the style of the picture, but that's it. The image is crisp, clear and colors are very accurate. The sticky back takes a moment to stick but that's not a big deal. When I first stick it to my journal pages, it acts like it wants to peel up at the corners. I just close the journal and press the pic to the page and it sticks fine. Once it is stuck, it stays and doesn't peel back at the corners. I've also used this for my granddaughter's baby book. They fit the spaces perfectly. The picture size is just under 2.75 wide by just under 3.5 long. The image dimensions are 2.5 x 2.5. Canon Selphy QX-10 is a compact portable printer that I use to print photos on the go. The photos are smaller 2.7 inch square photos but the printer can reproduce up to 256 shades per color at a 287x287 dpi resolution. For the physical size of the photo the 287 dpi provides good resolution and the 256 shades provide vibrant colors with good depth and range. Overall I think the print quality is quite good and because it uses a dry imaging process the photos are ready to go as soon as they exit the printer. The printer only comes with 4 sheets of paper and a color cassette that will only print 4 photos so be sure to pick up a couple of boxes of Canon XS-20L with the printer, each one contains 20 sheets and a color cassette that will print 20 photos. The printer only comes with 4 sheets of paper and a color cassette that will only print 4 photos so be sure to pick up a couple of boxes of Canon XS-20L with the printer, each one contains 20 sheets and a color cassette that will print 20 photos. One important feature of the photo paper is that you can peel off a back layer to expose a sticky back that allows you to stick your photos to things like an album or document. The sticky back is like the glue on blue painter’s tape so you can re-stick it a couple of times without having to worry about destroying the photo. Removing the back paper from the photo does take some time and good finger nails. The only negative as with most printers is the cost of supplies, if you aren’t careful you can go through a box of 20 very quickly especially if you like passing out photos. Setup: The printer comes with a paper manual but I found that loading the Selphy Photo Layout app on my phone and following the directions in the app was better. The app walks you through all the steps from loading the paper and the color cassette to registering the printer using the QR code on the printer. I had the printer up and printing in very little time. The printer runs on an internal battery that uses a micro USB cable to charge. Canon provides the cable with the printer but does not supply a power adaptor so you will need to use either a spare adaptor or PC USB port to charge the printer. It takes about 2 hours to fully charge the printer and there is an LED indicator that gives battery status on the printer. You can also get the battery status by using the Selphy Photo Layout App. App and Operation: The Selphy Photo Layout app has some basic features that allow you to do some enhancements and editing to your photos. Once you select the photo you need to click on the image to align it and then you use the items in the ribbon menu to enhance it. I personally found it easier to use the photo editor on my phone to make any enhancements to the photo prior to using the Selphy app. Basically the Selphy Photo Layout app converts the photo to the size and resolution that the printer can print, it does not have to be the primary photo editing software unless you prefer to use it that way. Because the printer is totally wireless and does not have a memory card slot it makes printing photos from my Canon Powershot ELPH camera a little more difficult. To print those photos I download the images from the camera to my pc and then email them to myself. I then open the email on my phone and save the images to my phone’s photo Gallery. If you do this you have to make sure your photos don’t exceed your email’s limit on file size. The printer can have multiple devices registered, we have an Android phone, an Iphone and an IPAD all configured with the Selphy Photo Layout app and all can print. It takes slightly less than a minute to print the photo and you have to make sure the photo slot is not blocked because the printer feeds the photo paper out of and back into the printer several times during the printing process.
Pros: easy to use, works well, easy to set up, cordless, app based, lots of editing options, good quality prints Cons: only comes with 3 pieces of sample paper and a small sample ink cartridge The SELPHY Square QX10 is nice but it only comes with 3 squares of paper and a small sample of color ink, so you definitely need to buy an actual quantity of ink and paper to use this. That said it is super easy and straightforward to set up and use. The instruction manual is so big and thick that I thought the instructions would be vast but it just includes every language. The first thing you do is charge it; it comes with a charging cord with a USB end so you can charge it in any USB port. It took a few hours to charge. Next the instructions tell you to download the latest version of the SELPHY app. Once downloaded all you have to do is follow the on-screen prompts to set it up. It walks you through turning it on, loading the paper, installing the ink, and then connecting it to your phone. I had zero issues setting it up on my iPhone. The next thing you do is choose your picture that you want to print and then choose any of the options it comes with. It allows you to adjust, crop, change the position, change the border, add cute frames, text, paint, stamps, filters, and overcoats! There are a ton of options to customize each picture. The app is very easy to use and it works really well for editing. Once you’re done editing you just hit the print button and let the machine do its thing. It puts on each layer of color separately then it goes back into the machine until it done with all the colors. It’s really neat to watch each layer get applied. The final product is pretty good. I wouldn’t say it’s the best quality but it’s good. There are some variations in colors and some lines but nothing terrible. It’s sticker paper as well so it can be used as a sticker, or you can leave the backing on. All in all, this is a nice compact photo printer. It’s super easy to set up and use and it works well. I would recommend it!
As soon as I used this, I was immediately reminiscing about the old instant cameras we used decades ago! There is something cool about printing out pictures immediately and giving them away or placing them right in the album. Honestly I wasn't sure how I would like this printer, but I was impressed right away. It is so easy to use too! I'm not especially tech savvy so I was sort of nervous about trying to use it. But I installed the app first and it walked me through all the steps. EASY! It seriously only takes a few minutes to print a nice quality photo! Basically, as long as you can download an app to your smartphone, you can easily use this printer. Because the app is required in order to use the printer. Basically, as long as you can download an app to your smartphone, you can easily use this printer. Because the app is required in order to use the printer. There are only a few sheets of paper included but it's easy to find more paper and ink online for a reasonable price. It's easy to fill the paper and install the ink cartridge. The app tells you how to do everything. The pictures are a cute, small size. The printer itself is small and fairly light. I could even fit it in my purse if I really wanted to. The comes with a charging cord and manual. Very transportable. This would make an awesome gift! It could be great to bring to a party: take fun pictures and print them out instantly to give to friends and family. It could also be fun for a teen to take to school or to events to print out quick photos and give to classmates. I definitely recommend this to anyone who would like to print out instant photos from their smartphone. Very cool idea!
