Again please listen to you blue collar clients and please don't ask me to call the 1-800 number, that just comes off as a condescending. Bring back function, like I still see on the pants and listen to your customers or risk losing that portion of the market. I know I am now being forced to shop elsewhere.

These overalls have some good aspects to them: tough material; pencil pockets; tool pockets; double front. Carhartt needs to add some other features for these to be great overalls: crotch gusset for ease of motion; boot zipper; lower zipper fly so that you can actually use it when you need to... you know what I mean.Durability is pretty good. They wear out in the crotch and knees first for me (maybe I'm kneeling and squatting a lot on site). A crotch gusset would help with the wear in the crotch area.I have a longer torso than typical, and it seems as if Carhartt designs these for guys with longer legs rather than longer torsos, so I always need to get these bib overalls a lot longer than I "should" because otherwise they ride like a beast.

But in reality the pockets are the same length, but you have changed the design and the top of the pocket is wider and lower, effectively reducing the depth of the pocket. Either way they won't work and after all these years I am very disappointed! And I won't be buying any more unless something is changed. This makes me sad as they are an American institution and seem to going by the wayside like so many other things.

I have noticed over the years that the straps tend to stretch and lose elasticity over time, which is to be expected, however after they redesigned the adjustment buckles several years ago, they tend to slip and need frequent readjustment. Also, with my new pair I had 1 strap end that slipped out of the buckle at the first use. It was just poorly secured. I was able to open the clasp and re secure it rather than return that set. I have simply noticed over the years that though the Carhart's themselves are well made the clasps and fasteners have gotten cheaper and more prone to failure. They were too tight in the seat and thighs. If your intention is to wear these bibs as an outer garment over jeans, you need to order one or two sizes larger. The material is definitely thinner than my old bibs, which I still have. Believe it or not, my old Carhartt bibs are hand-me-downs that I received in my late 20's, I'm now 72. New clasp attachments are sewn to the top of the bib through two layers of fabric as opposed to previous versions (my last pair's clasp attachment points are almost completely toasted). New pocket design adds a few slots for short pencils, bit extensions, etc. as well as a zippered compartment if you have items that need to be kept more secure. Negative changes to this new iteration of an old classic are as follows- New square cut pocket style is very shallow and makes no sense to me. I absolutely hate it. I carry a nice pocketknife and it won't even fit in the pocket without bottoming out and making me feel like I'm going to lose it. I can't even fit my whole hand in the pocket- I really don't understand the logic here as the old pockets were fine. My second gripe is the reversed leg pocket configuration ( hammer loop and single pocket is now on the right leg and double pocket is on the left) I'm sure some people find this more convenient but I've gotten used to carrying and accessing particular tools in each location for many years and that is now reversed for no apparent reason. All in all these are still a nice pair of bibs and a great value for the quality and function but I am getting to the age where I get tired of companies with tried and true products constantly trying to reinvent the wheel. If I hadn't owned multiple pairs of Carhartt bibs over the years I wouldn't have a basis for my gripes but you grow to expect a certain functionality and it's aggravating when it gets altered.
