Excellent little feature-rich G-Shock, the GW-B5600AR-1 with a unique silver on red display, adds Bluetooth functionality to it's Multiband 6-channel radio to extend the timekeeping feature to G-Shock lovers around the world, where they do not have time signals such as the ones that exist in Japan, the US, Europe and other developed countries. People can now sync the time with their cell phones via a nifty app called G-Shock Connect which can also save your current location, set alarms, and comes packed with a whole host of other settings and features in itself. Presently you can find it around the Internet for about $100 - $120 USD. anything above that is just hoarders trying to make money from all the stock they have hoarded. It is also quite spartan in its packaging. It does not come with a foam packed tin or come wrepped around a faux leather cushion in a nice black faux leather cardboard box. No sir, it comes on a stand, surrounded on three sides by tamper proof hard transparent plastic. Maybe the store will toss it into a generic Casio cardboard box - the kind that come flat in a stack with a rubber band wrapped around them. You will have to ask the cashier for it though. The reason for writing in this detail is because a lot of people when they buy these watches on line expect them to come in fancier packaging. Perhaps they saw an unboxing video or two. I assure you these do not come packaged like their fancier siblings and if you say anything different that is because those unboxing videos are from people who added those tins and boxes themselves. But enough on that already. All in all, this is a great watch with a unique reverse red display, Tough Solar so that you don't have to worry about batteries for at least ten to twelve years, a multiband - 6 radio syncing capability and bluetooth. It is a G-Shock so it is pretty much indestructible. Excellent value!

Used it for about two weeks including a week in the sun before needing a charge which is reasonable. The polar app buried in the casio watch app does a pretty decent job at showing tracking data, although I wish you could start activities from the phone app and not just the watch. The buttons on the watch are a bit fiddly to use but not impossible, and you get used to the functions eventually, its certainly not intuitive but its simple enough to understand the layout ... MoreI'm more of an automatic chronograph sort of watch person, but dabbled in the past with smartwatches and always liked the classic casio and g-shock watches. G-Shock smart watch with very few negatives
4 July 2023

Overall this is a very good watch!Positives:-Comfort: there are lots of holes on the strap to get the perfect fit, the material is soft and feels good.-Face: MIP display is very visible at any angle, looks very crisp and clear.-Style: class square G-shock, nice colour accents on the face. Doesn’t look like a smart watch for those who don’t like black mirrors.-Heart rate monitor: protrudes from the watch quite a bit however this isn’t noticeable. I had concerns before I bought it but at no point have I noticed it.-Health tracking: uses Polar’s HR and tracking system for gym workouts, runs and walks. Customisable faces depending on the activity, e.g. when running you can have 4 faces each showing 2 pieces of information like split time, pace, HR, speed etc. and ... MoreOverall this is a very good watch!Positives:-Comfort: there are lots of holes on the strap to get the perfect fit, the material is soft and feels good.-Face: MIP display is very visible at any angle, looks very crisp and clear.-Style: class square G-shock, nice colour accents on the face. Customisable faces depending on the activity, e.g. when running you can have 4 faces each showing 2 pieces of information like split time, pace, HR, speed etc. and you cycle through these using the mode button. Polar have a great Nightly Recharge feature that gives you a description of your sleep with nervous system status and a suggestion for how to approach your day.-Battery: with the phone notifications off and HR monitoring on all day I’m getting about 4 days out of the watch before it needs recharging.-Customisability: three watch face options for every day viewing, multiple watch face combinations for during activity, customisable menus (be wary of those saying it takes a while to scroll through the watch menus, you can change the order and remove menu items which greatly speeds this up), you can choose to have HR monitoring on all the time, just at night, or at night and activity timeNegatives:-Connectivity: doesn’t yet sync with third party fitness or health apps. I manually enter my data onto the Apple Health app so it can be compared with my other health monitoring apps.-Battery saving options: I would benefit from an option to enter airplane mode quickly as I only connect to the G-Shock app once a day to sync my life and activity logs. During the day I don’t need my watch connected to my phone.Things to note:-Smart phone notifications can show on the screen of the watch, I don’t find this beneficial as my phone is usually readily available to view, so I haven’t commented on this feature

Good idea poorly executed
13 June 2023

This watch is a poor hybrid of two good ideas; a MIP display 5600 and a 5600 sports watch. Users of the DWH5600 get neither, instead it’s an overly thick 5600 with an upgraded display that is very inaccurate at excise tracking and includes no integration with exercise apps like Strava. The GBD series of g-shock is still the best sports g-Shock and the DW5600 is still the best 5600.The quality and build of the watch is great, but this is all wasted on a poorly conceived product. Cheaper and better alternatives are available.

Good looking watch. Below average function
30 December 2023

Asthetically the watch looks amazing, but if you are looking for a fitness watch, look elsewhere. The only thing going for this watch is the display if you are a fan favorite of the sqaure GW5600 series. The processing power is slow, and the buttons are hard to press since they don't petrude out enough. I wear this based on pure appearance with basic time/date functionality but not for fitness which I rather use my Garmin Fenix watch for that.

Great watch…..best of both….however….
2 June 2023

The watch has been great to use and accurate. However, even with phone notifications switched off, the battery life is still 3 days. This is with only 3 runs a week. The data gathered is meaningful and accurate. However, this does not connect with apple health data so your steps without your iPhone are not counted. This functionality would make a huge difference.I am a keen runner and do various workouts 6 days a week, but this watch only has four activities that can be recorded. The aesthetic of this watch is fantastic, however I shouldn’t have paid a little extra and got the Garmin solar instinct 2s because it is fully solar and a few more activities that can be recorded.

Near perfect fitness/gshock hybrid but not a smart watch

Positives:Square design aesthetic is perfect, metal bezel is subtle but distinct, perfect for formal and informal occasions.Strap is more supple than previous gshock models with closer buckle holes for better fit.MIP display is perfect and has to be seen to be appreciated. So crisp it almost looks like e-ink.Solar charging is a great addition meaning longer times between charge unlike everyday with other smart watches.Negatives:Sensor module sticks out considerably more than other smart watches. This seems like a strange design choice and the difference can be felt and seen on the wrist but is quickly forgotten after a few hours of use.Software and interaction is still somewhat clunky but no different than other gshocks. If you want a square gshock with a beautiful MIP display this is the current best option. All other functions are average at best.Improvements:Make this exact watch without sensor module and add tough solar. Would ideally love a square with MIP and tough solar with a temperature sensor as this is really the only information I require.

Not as expected
11 June 2023

A bit thick due to heart rate and blood oxygen sensors. The user interface is pretty different to normal casio g-shocks and to be honest it was pretty annoying to say the least. Also for some reason, maybe it was just my lighting but the mip display seemed not as bright as the mip display on the g-lide gbx 100 maybe that was just the lighting condition i was in or maybe the battery needed a full charge first to get set up, however the battery did show it was full. Who knows, maybe I’m misrepresenting that aspect of the watch and the brightness level of the mip on it is perfectly fine, just thought i’d point it out as it was not what i expected and for these other reasons above including what I thought was an unjustified price tag, I did return the watch for a full ... MoreA bit thick due to heart rate and blood oxygen sensors. To give a holistic review, I will say that, I did like how the watch looked and its display design also. I also thought the strap was great and comfortable too. Plus I actually like the fact that g-shock decided to make it a rechargeable watch, i honestly loved that feature and if the watch didn’t disappoint me in other areas I would have been so happy having the recharging capability. Might I add that the fact they had a recharging capability and not setting to adjust the screen brightness, is a bit odd as the two features would have gone hand in hand and added value to the watch which it deserves. Hope this helps you.

Probably the only watch you'll ever need
5 July 2023

Probably the only everyday tool watch you'll ever need. Super tough, crono, 200m WR, world time to 5 simultaneous time zones, atomic-clock accurate with Multi Band 6, and and be set using bluetooth compatibility with your phone. Not to mention it's solar powered so it'll never need a battery. A minor quibble might be the negative display isn't great, but it can auto light the screen every time you raise and turn your wrist. It's not jewellery, but then it isn't meant to be. An essential time-keeping purchase.
