Oh man… as a skincare enthusiast, daily sunscreen wearer and Cerave loyalist, I REALLY wanted to love this sunscreen so much… but it simply isn’t great. I regularly wear mineral sunscreen, both alone and under makeup, so I am familiar with the idea of a “white cast” being apparent following the application of mineral UV filters on most skin tones. I am fortunate to have an ultra fair “porcelain” skin tone that is generally not impacted by this occurrence though. Of the eight (8) mineral UV lotions currently in my rotation, this is the only one that is obviously and LITERALLY leaves my face, neck and ears looking white and pasty once applied. Unlike other hydrating SPF 50 products at this price point, it is definitely not suitable for use as a makeup base or primer. Though this sunscreen does not meet my requirements for regular daily use, I can honestly say it DOES work well as a protective skincare product. This is the one I reach for on “no makeup” days when I am gardening and doing outdoor tasks during high UV times as well as those that require limited interaction with others. My skin never burns, does not become reactive, and always feels hydrated with no irritation after removing this sunscreen. If you are looking for a heavy duty sunscreen that provides skincare benefits and lasts in humid climates, this one works well. However, I can only recommend it in good faith with the knowledge it will not blend evenly or not be noticeable unless you are literally a ghost.

The positive reviews of this on Influenster are baffling. It’s a truly awful sunscreen. I bought it thinking the cerave brand could be trusted. First, it leaves a white cast. This in itself isn’t unusual for sunscreen and can be fixed by mixing it with a tinted sunscreen. I am pale but this one left me ghost like. Even after hours of wear it never absorbed. Though the tint can be fixed… the finish cannot. This is very, very sticky. Again, even after hours of wear. Impossible to wear makeup over top, even just powder. And because of the stickiness I won’t even be able to wear it on my body to use it up since it will be a magnet to dirt, dust, food crumbs and insects. Great sunscreen for sensitive skin!!

I developed a handful of allergies recently, and in addition to those, I also can no longer tolerate fragrance in any products I use. My husband and I used to use ThinkSport, a mineral sunscreen-but found out there is sunflower oil in it, which I am allergic to (and unfortunately learned the hard way). We ran to the nearest store and found a tube of this CeraVe, and had to give it a try. We prefer mineral sunscreens, and were so happy that this one seemed to have ingredients that were safe for me. Mineral sunscreens always take a while to rub in, but it worked perfectly once it was on, and it didn't budge afterward. There was definitely still a slight white cast, but it wasn't that bad once it was rubbed in. There's a stupid amount of white cast and isnt the easiest to rub in.I fixed that though 💁🏻‍♀️ I can't continually keep buying sunscreens, because who tf has the money for that? I found two korean mineral sunscreens, but I have to wait a month on delivery.Here's what I figured out though.Do you have a thermal water spray? A foundation brush? You don't want your face dry for this next part.Apply sunscreen. Go in with your foundation brush afterwards. It's not gonna IMMEDIATELY SOAK-UP!!TA-DA YOU'RE DONE!!I would never recommend this product for darker skintones, even anyone with a tan. This method really only worked for me, because I'm white with some color. The white cast isn't as noticable anymore unless you're staring SUPER HARD AT MY FACE.Hopefully this review helps you out in the future, especially if you're in a bind.

I love CeraVe as a brand and use many of their other products in my routine, but I wish I had read some of the reviews before purchasing this one. I picked it up on a whim while shopping in-store since I was running low on my usual facial sunscreen and this one is a few dollars cheaper. Like many others, it left the harshest white cast I have ever encountered in any facial sunscreen. I'm sure it does an amazing job of protecting your skin, but I could not step out of my house looking like a ghost! I applied it on my bare (no skincare) face and no amount of massaging it in could help blend it out. I even got scared I was rubbing a little too hard. Try again CeraVe

My black swimsuit is now like 50 shades of grey without all the fun. It takes forever and I mean forever to rub in, if at all. Even then, the white cast still transfers to ANYTHING you come into contact with (my poor dog) … you name it and it transfers, with very little hope of getting it off any porous surface. Positive side….It does work for the intended purpose. Thinking outside the box 🤔 Maybe it would hack well as diaper rash cream or a cool stencil design of any choosing? I burn very easily and the few nooks and crannies I somehow missed during the 20 minutes of rubbing are now rotisserie. So, now, I’m barely sun kissed with red armpits 😆. I’m very disappointed as the brand is well known and good. However, this product is a no go for me.

Yes, it's white, BUT...

Its the only sunscreen that doesn't burn my eyes. I live on the water in Florida. I've tried loads of sunscreens and there are some higher end brands like estee lauder which also work for me, but this is a bargain. I buy 3 of these every spring. Keep one in the garage for yard work. One in my room for any day I know I'll be in sun. One in my beach/boat bag. If I'm going out to a ball game etc, I apply this all over my face & eyes (i use eye cream first). Let it soak in at least 5 minutes, wipe off my dark eye brows (it seems to collect there) then apply something with a tint, preferably also with sunscreen, but probably not 50. It's perfect and lasts for many hours even in hot weather. When I know I cant avoid direct sun, I also wear a hat. If Im at a ball game, I ... MoreIts the only sunscreen that doesn't burn my eyes. If Im boating, I apply this every 2 hours, yes, it's white, but my skin looks pretty darn good for 50+ yrs old raised in the sunshine state. My favorite tinted moisturizer with spf is Algenist. Bare minerals has something similar which also does not burn my eyes. This sunscreen is also sweat proof!

You are applying this wrong... It works!

Don't sleep on this... If you are complaining about the white cast try thinking outside the box as I did. To not have the white cast, I first wash my face before applying or wet it thoroughly with warm/hot water to open my pores. Next, mix a little of the sunscreen with cerave moisturizing face lotion (or something of your choice) and rub together in your hands evenly. Apply to your full face with both hands and rub into face a few seconds as your face begins to dry. And Viola!!! Problem solved for me at least. This product is best used on a wet face, so that it absorbs more quickly, evenly, and with out the white cast. I'm medium brown skin and it works this way for me. Of course, a little bit goes a long way, so don't use too much product or you may still get a ... MoreDon't sleep on this...
