It's no coincidence that you see lavender, geranium, rosemary, and sage voted by significant margins; it really is a lacerating opening. After the opening settles, the body is rounded out by oakmoss, neroli, and jasmine. Now that the edges have softened; even an avowed fresh-hater would admit that the structure is clever and attractive: masculine, bold, absent of sweetness, assertive, and yet non-threatening. This balance hangs on for most of the development, with sandalwood and cedar coming into the picture through the finish. This is an excellent fragrance, classic, but not dated at all in my opinion. It has excellent longevity and versatility. Although it could probably work in the colder months too, I liked wearing it in the spring and summer.

This is a jack of all trades. The lavender, clary sage, and neroli give it a clean, floral freshness while still remaining masculine. Oakmoss and vetiver, while noticeable, do not overpower the other notes, leaving it quite uplifting; not so musty like some oakmoss and vetiver heavy frags. The base of sandalwood is absolutely there throughout which leaves a slight creaminess to the entire experience. Touches of amber help to level off the fragrance by adding some soft warmness as well. This is perfect fir those who are looking for a fresh and clean take of a "barbershop fougere ". 10/10 in my book.

The initial spray actually smells almost astringent in the same way the classic 4711 does before settling into a clean, almost soapy, citrus scent. A few sprays last all day on my skin and until the next wash on my clothing. My husband will not go near this one, but I love it. I think it smells like sunshine and screams confidence. I recommend it for men and women alike.

Classic

I have a bottle of this fragrance I’ve had since the early 2000’s and thought it was no longer produced. Shopping around and found it here and immediately made a purchase. This scent is very masculine yet fresh and last all day long without changing notes. Beautiful fragrance indeed, the brand really is all you need to know to understand it’s one of the very best for men only fragrances.

Disappointed

3 Stars because it's Chanel. I was looking forward to buying this without first trying because of the reviews. I was greatly disappointed when it arrived. In my opinion, it smells like something you would buy at a knock off place and it definitely doesn't smell expensive at all. Smells like a cheap cologne. Sorry Chanel, this one you should retire.

I tried this in boots and loved it so much that I bought it but upon getting home and trying the bottle I bought, I noticed a BIG difference in between the sample spray I had on my wrist and the new product. The tester was stronger, slightly different smell and totally different to what I had bought as the same product. I went back and the perfume representative admitted that testers were mainly EDP, to attract new custom. I asked for and received a full refund. I have a quarter of a bottle of the old formula and use it sparingly as it's a peach of an EDP flanker from Chanel. The new formula ? Smells lovely when freshly applied but beware that it's not nose blindness that stops you smelling it, it just fades into nothing. The longest you can expect, in my experience, is 2-3 hours and that is being generous. I'm shocked a perfume house with the reputation of Chanel woukd allow such a thing to go out of their house. Being blunt, it's what I'd use just before getting into bed with my partner and knowing it won't matter once "things" hotted up. It's more like a refresh spray than that of a true EDT from a famous perfumer. If you can find thenokd formula buy it. It lasts a full 8--10 hours and radiates a lovely warm and enticing smell that entices themolfactory senses and gets youlots of attention. I don't know why Chanel and others, have changed formulas but I would guess cost ? I woukd rather pay more, for a decent product than less for a poor one It used to be a 2 way battle between Tom Ford Tobacco oud and this. Now it's Tom Ford all the way. I'm saddened to say that Chanel lost its way. I do however love the Chanel Eau extreme flanker, to the allure home sport range. The EDP is superb and long lasting so at least I do have one Chanel product I can rely upon to stand out from the jean Paul Gaultier le Male infested men, in many places. I look for product that is unusual and not what others woukd wear. Try issey Miyake also, if you want to stand out from the sheep Goodbye Chanel egoiste, it was good while it lasted. See what I did there ;)

Mature. Masculine

A clean, classy and masculine fragrance. A mature scent suiting a mature man. No sickly sweet stuff here. Smells expensive but not pompous. Scent strength is good but longevity is below average on my skin, lasting only a few hours.

Of the dozen or so newer colognes I’ve purchased (or she’s purchased for me as a gift) over the past 13 years, this is my wife’s favorite. It opens with a very fresh and sharp citrusy clean note and starts to evolve into an extremely unique scent of creamy woods and masculine floral. Even though it projects well and lasts long, it’s one of the least offensive yet pleasurable colognes I’ve owned. Its seasonal and event versatility makes it my most regularly worn fragrance. It is most ideally suited for the over 30 crowd, as it has a more refined vibe about it. It’s classy, not trendy. Having said that, it is a scent as easily worn on weekends with blue jeans, at work, or for date night.
