Every time I had to clean my makeup brushes I had to either use baby shampoo or mild dish soaps. After reading about brush cleaners, I decided to try the Cinema Secrets, based on the multiple reviews that made me really curious about it. The product is a blue liquid that smells really strong, a mix of alcohol and notes of warm vanilla. It claims to instantly clean and quick-dry your brushes. As directed, I pour a little bit in a mini bowl, dipped the fibers about a quarter in, and instantly wiped them on a cloth (they also recommend paper towel, but it absorbs the liquid way too fast). Then I reshaped the brushes with my fingers and set them to dry. The amount of pigment that comes off is absolutely ridiculous. I definitely recommend it to everyone who likes to keep their brushes clean!

I love this stuff for weekly base cleaning your makeup brushes for when you really go clean them. It takes the junk and bacteria out weakly and when you do the big cleaning it really helps. i line how it comes with a little tin. the only thing that i wish i could change is the smell. it can be a little overwhelming but as soon as you done cleaning your brushes it’s gone. you can get the travel kit which comes with the tin can and then upgrade to the big bottle but it just makes everything easier. I would recommend this product!

The towel I used to rub the brushes off on smells like I soaked it in lighter fluid to start a fire, my house still smells 24 hours later. Also, find it EXTREMELY odd that when you add the value size of this item to your cart it suddenly changes your order to ground shipping only because whatever is used in this product cannot go on a plane in large quantities 😂 there’s also butylparaben in this which in low doses increased the growth of breast cancer cells. I have no idea how a product like this can be sold as brush cleaner. Save yourself the chemical inhalation poison for a quick zero dry time wash and just put some effort into it and wash your brushes with a safer product.

This product is AMAZING. don’t let the photos of people proving their idiocy that aided them in destroying their own brushes dissuade you from trying this cleaner out.the KEY to, not only keeping your brushes clean, but also keeping them from ruin, comes from the simple fact that you shouldn’t use anything without READING THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST. there’s a very good chance, most of the people who’ve shown how they destroyed their brushes, did so because they put too much of the brush into the liquid.seriously, if you put the whole brush head of your into the cleaner, you’re guaranteed to ruin it. only half the brush hairs length should go be dipped into the cleaner. it’s because once the ends of the brush hairs make contact with this liquid, the hairs, natural or ... MoreThis product is AMAZING. don’t let the photos of people proving their idiocy that aided them in destroying their own brushes dissuade you from trying this cleaner out.the KEY to, not only keeping your brushes clean, but also keeping them from ruin, comes from the simple fact that you shouldn’t use anything without READING THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST. there’s a very good chance, most of the people who’ve shown how they destroyed their brushes, did so because they put too much of the brush into the liquid.seriously, if you put the whole brush head of your into the cleaner, you’re guaranteed to ruin it. only half the brush hairs length should go be dipped into the cleaner. it’s because once the ends of the brush hairs make contact with this liquid, the hairs, natural or synthetic, soak up liquid wetting the entire length of the hairs then gently rubbing in gentle back & forth motions (as if you’re petting the brush along your towel, no scrubbing motions, only stroking motions) until your brush feels dry to the touch. repeating this process as many times as necessary if you wish to remove the stains completely.it’s literally the simplest & easiest cleaning product. ive used natural hair brushes & synthetic hair brushes from morphe, sigma, the makeup shack, peaches & cream, bestope (amazon brand i think), & jessup brushes all with astounding success. i’ve never once destroyed a brush with this product and this is my 3rd repurchase.i’m now committing to the 32oz one size because of how satisfied i am with its simplicity and convenience and guaranteed results.however, the only time i choose to wash my brushes in the sink are when the brush is really dense and youve used it with a liquid product, like foundation or concealer. you’ll have more success using a regular brush cleaner that requires water, in these specific situations. however for everything else, i won’t use any other cleaner because this is simply the best.

Destroyed multiple brushes, original is better

The original blue CS cleaner is a holy grail of mine but I've always disliked the scent of it and the fact that the liquid tends to dye my light colored brushes blue. That being said, I was so excited to see that they released a new scent with no added coloring to the liquid, but after using this for the last year or so I can definitively say that this product has destroyed more than a few of my favorite brushes by eroding the glue over time. I've always followed the cleaning instructions in detail and never let my brushes dip more than a quarter into the liquid, but the liquid still absorbs up into the base of my brushes and over time has completely eroded the glue in many of them (including my favorite large powder brush). I've never had this issue with the original blue formula and can only guess that the inclusion of lemon in this has to be what makes it so destructive to my brushes compared to the original. Would NOT recommend this over the original formula if you're looking for a long-term solution to maintaining brush sanitization between deep cleans.

FRADULENT PRODUCT

This product was definitely NOT Cinema Secrets Brush Cleaner. I use this product regularly and I noticed right away on first use that my brushes were not getting as clean as they usually do. The liquid was very "thin" and the make up didn't separate from the brush as usual. Then I grabbed an unopened bottle I had that I got from Sephora and I noticed the weight and coloring of the liquid were different when I compared them. The bottle from Walmart was sealed with a silver foil but it is not the same foil that is on the Sephora bottle and it looked like it had been tampered with or reapplied. Very upsetting experience as I already cleaned several brushes and now I have to throw them all away as I have no idea what this liquid is.

Lingering chemical smell & residue on brushes.
8 March 2024

I went in-store to buy more brush cleaner. They were out of the product I normally use and this Cinema Secrets kit came highly recommended from the sales associate. Pricey but I decided to try it. Unfortunately, I didn't use it right away and by the time I tried it, I was beyond the return window. I greatly dislike this product. I closely followed the instructions and the result was a long-lingering scented chemical smell in the room. Worse yet, the smell and cleaner residue that is left on the brushes is still detectible a few weeks later. I can't wait to thoroughly clean them and try to get rid of these after-effects. I greatly regret spending the $$ on this product and lesson learned to try new purchased products before the return window closes.

MISLEADING PRODUCT INFORMATION IN THE DESCRIPTION
28 May 2024

This is a great brush cleaner in that it removes makeup from brushes very easily, HOWEVER, Sephora is advertising this as anti-microbial & it is NOT. If you look up all the ingredients, they are all solvents & fragrances, none of them remove bacteria or prevent the spread of germs. You can look on the cinema secrets website & read the description there, nowhere does it say this product is anti microbial… not to mention that the list of ingredients is different on the CS website. It is absolutely WILD to me that Sephora is falsely advertising SAFETY INFORMATION, what a wildly reckless thing to do when many makeup artists are shopping in their store. This is SO IRRESPONSIBLE & sort of seems illegal to me.

Wondering how some people like this stuff? The chemical smell is beyond overwhelming - it smells like rubbing alcohol and gasoline mixed together and the smell remains in the brush after washing. I’m supposed to put this stuff on my skin? No way. Very good product except for smell.
7 October 2023

Just used this brush cleaner for the first time. I purchased it because most of the recommendations I read listed this as the best overall. It did a really good job in cleaning my brushes overall. The only exception was with a very dense foundation brush. There was just a bit of makeup left deeper inside the brush even after two cleanings. Also, the smell is very off-putting while using the product and while the brushes dry. The smell mostly dissipates after they are dry. I understand this same company makes a brush cleaner with a lemon fragrance. That might be better. Overall a good product if you can take the very strong smell. My experience with purchasing from Walmart was perfect!
