I learned about this gin through a Wall Street Journal article that examined nine gins and divided them into three categories: classic, retro, and deviant. According to the article, this gin is matured in seven separate casks, which results in a wide variety of flavors, hence it falls within the "deviate" category. Similar to Tanqueray #10 in many ways, but less sweet/more dry with a rounded, somewhat soiled orange edge. This gin is a great deal because it is undoubtedly the less expensive option. I do not advise combining this with Honey Tonic since the nasty orange note interferes with the honey. This would be my go-to gin if there was less orange and a little more woody juniper, in general.

Initially, it was the beautiful bottle that caught my attention. It has now become my favorite gin- either in a martini or a Negroni. No overwhelming herbaceous flavors~ smooth, with subtle flavors over a marvelous gin. I do not like Tanquery, or Hendricks as the heavy infused flavors hide the beauty of a fine gin. The only drawback is that somehow this beautiful bottle runs out to quickly....

We host a monthly Cocktail Club at our house for friends. The cocktails each month are different, and something no one has tried before. Several of our friends do not like gin - but... they actually really like THIS gin! Citadelle doesn't have the overpowering juniper taste that other gins have. So for people who don't like the juniper taste, this gin works very well. We love this gin in the Corpse Reviver #2 cocktail, where it doesn't overpower the other flavors. It's also very good in a Saturn cocktail. And, this gin is even good as a gin and tonic. It really is one of our favorite, all-purpose gins.
First off, I'm a Bourbon Whiskey gal. I was in search of a good gin for my mom. I did some research and bought this one for my mom. We cracked it open, 750ml to try just in case it was no bueno, Christmas day and the aromatics of it were suprisingly wonderful. Being a bartender previously gin was not my favorite aroma. Well, that bottle didn't last long. Bought 2 more because I found two gift sets for the price of a large bottle.I now drink THIS gin when I want something light. Dry it without anything added, there are so many notes that tingle you're senses. Go ahead, go buy you a bottle!

This gin has a harsher alcohol sensation than even normal Tanqueray, but I wasn't ready to dismiss it as being "too harsh." Both critics and other customers favored it. They cannot all be mistaken! Fennel, savory, and paradise grain are some unusual herbal additions to citadelle that add interest but can taste strange when served neat. When consumed on its own, the lengthy finish eventually leaves a faint savory-floral taste in the mouth. However, if you're searching for "sipping gin," look elsewhere. I use Citadelle and reduce the gin in a negroni. So beautiful in a martini glass) were my two favorites. And then one night in the bar my son said, "Dad, I think this is the gin you've been looking for." He poured me the best martini I ever had. And it's been Citadel ever since. No mixes, no vermouth(ugh!) This gin is to be honored and respected straight up or over the rocks. I challenge you to find a more smoother drink in the gin family. I've turned gin drinkers and non-gin drinkers on to Citadel and nary a complaint from the bunch. By the way, the old graphics on the 750ml bottle were outstanding. I primarily bought this for two reasons: first, I've been trying to expand my gin horizons and second because the bottle is so attractive. I was not disappointed in the least. This gin has a great bouquet..complex and sexy. Definitely a background of juniper, but with notes of citrus and spice. It really shines in gimlets and martinis but I've also really enjoyed shaking it with ice and fresh squeezed lemonade. I haven't tried it in a classic gin and tonic yet, but I'm sure it would be great. Ditto a traditional Tom Collins. I'll definitely buy it again.
22 years ago, I first discovered this gin in Honolulu. ever since, I've been drinking it. For me, the perfect combination of flavors is the blend when you first drink it, the harmony of flavors as they go through your mouth, and the excellent finish as you swallow. Since then, a bartender has demonstrated to me that swirling a martini significantly increases the gin's flavor intensity. The best guidance I've received while sipping a gin martini.
On the advice of a Tipxy employee, I bought some Citadelle Gin a couple of weeks ago. The best gin I've ever tried is this one. It isn't the typical (Juniper) gin that tastes like a Christmas tree. Citadelle is a gin with a fresher, more flowery flavor that goes well in cocktails and on its own. Give this one a try if you don't like conventional weapons. It's top-notch material.
