The microtransactions are bad but the game is enjoyable on its own merits. My favorite part is the Eras feature. This allows you to play in the Magic/ Bird era the Jordan era or the Kobe era with full rosters for every team! They even have the old NBC music from the weekend games on NBC in the 1990's. As a long time fan this is by far my favorite part. The game play updates are okay, some I like, and others I question but overall the package is solid.

On one hand, the new retro game modes have reached out to my inner sports geek and given me a way to replay NBA history in a way that I’ve never done before. Conversely, I now feel completely and utterly isolated from the MyCareer experience. I have no interest in shelling out additional cash (even beyond the expensive Michael Jordan Edition) or grind for insane hours just to be able to compete on the online court, and the density of The City and its shopping opportunities is lost on me for the same reason. Gameplay for NBA 2K24 is great in my opinion. I think the game has multiple modes that people can enjoy. Some might play one mode, others might explore with more. If you want to just play basketball I think you will enjoy play now, MyNBA, WNBA. The one problem for many players is MyCareer mode and My team. It's tough to have a great rating for your player without buying VC. It will take maybe bad and tough game and a lot, a lot of time. Also if you are not an online player you will miss out on getting season prizes, which some can help with your player and how well he play. Not fair. Even if you play online the time you have to spend to level up take a very long time. Everything costs so much VC in this game. I bought the $100 version of the game, which came with 100K VC. That was barely enough to get MyPlayer to 70ish overall. Then, you have to spend more VC on dunks, dribbling, etc. If you don't have much spare time like me and want to have fun playing the game, you'll want to level up your MyPlayer by purchasing VC. My complaint is I spent $100 then I'll have to spend another $50-100 just to enjoy the game. Also, the game looks the same as the previous year. I really don't know why 2K can't just update the same game instead of releasing a new copy each year.
I got this for my boyfriend. I haven't played previous versions but this one seems a little disappointing from what I've watched and kind of played. It definitely is a grinding game unless you're rich, then you can by all the upgrades you want. The world seems a little too big for what it is and is annoyingly slow to watch the character go through.The storyline doesn't seem bad? But it doesn't seem great. I've played other games that I can't put down JUST because of the storyline - this is not that game.There are a couple glitches here and there requiring a restart of the game... I don't know the frustration with builds that some people seem to have but I do see how slow the story can be with all the cut scenes... This is the worst game I have ever played. I’ve been playing 2k for years, and I have loved it in the past. They have ruined the game beyond belief. The micro transactions are out of control, it would be incredibly easy to spend thousands of dollars on top of a $100 game just to minimally enjoy it. Complete and utter corporate greed. Online play is also completely broken, the game crashes every time. This will be the last 2k I ever buy and I wish I hadn’t bought this one.
Wouldn't recommend this game to my worst enemy. I thought that the constant negative ratings from every single 2k made would make them start to try more and fix their mechanics, but I was wrong. I don't know what's more sad, how my 6'8" player can't make a layup over a 6' defender when I shoot a full bar due to the new green system, or that the developers in the 20+ years of this game still haven't figured out how to make a well functioning game. I actually don't hate the new green system, where as the defender closes in on you your window of greening gets smaller, but it makes no sense to have it completely disappear from my shot meter. This has caused countless full bars to not go in. If I'm timing it right, then it should go in.
