I gave this product to my mom for testing since I do not have any grays yet. I’m usually the one that helps her touch up her roots with an at-home dye kit, so this was the perfect product to give her. This is a convenient product for those who need to touch up their roots often since you can use it yourself instead of having someone apply it for you. The brush isn’t that useful either since it’s not hard enough to actually brush through your hair. You might have to use the gloves that comes with the package to rub the dye in your hair. Overall, love the concept of this product but the execution could be a bit more clean. Also, this is a semi-permanent product. It will wash off after a few washes so it’s not as long lasting as permanent hair dyes but I love that there isn’t any ammonia in this product. You do not smell the usual strong chemical scents found in drugstore hair dye products, which was a plus for my mom.

The concept of this product is amazing -a semi permanent gel, a no mess applicator, a gentle Ammonia free hair color product that will cover scattered grays and wash out gradually over 10 shampoos! Sign me up. However, I fear it just doesn’t work on me or just isn’t strong enough for my hair. I left the gel on my roots and temple grays for 10 minutes over the recommended 10 minutes (for 20 minutes total) and not all my grays were covered. In fact, it stained the skin along my temples for days (despite my shampoos and soap use) but left those temple grays virtually untouched and still gray. Not sure how I feel about it- some hairs were covered at my crown, but at my temples it looked exactly the same as it did before coloring. Some background information about my hair -I only have scattered grays around my temple, crown and forehead line...and I. tend to show scattered grays in these areas about three weeks after my stylist uses permanent coloring at the salon. So to be fair, my gray could be considered somewhat resistant . The Clairol root touch up permanent product may just be a better option for me in general. I will update this once I try again a second time.

I really like this product. I hope everyone understands this is a root touch up. Not an actual hair dye. I am 35 years old and have dark brown hair…I’ve had grays since I was in my late 20’s but now their noticeable around my temples. I love embracing my old age coming and this allows me to cover the very few I have for now. I love hat it’s not permanent. For me the first time I don’t think I put on enough. Second time I hopped it on and I have t had to use it for like a month now maybe?? I’m using it at the moment because I can see a few grays. But hardly!! Really like this and will buy again if needed.

DO NOT USE BLONDE. seriously, listen to me - it will turn your roots DARKER. Here's my sob story: Influenster sent me this, which was nice and seemed like a good fit as I am about a level 7 and bleach lighter. I opened the box and read all the instructions thoroughly (the best tip I can ever give if you insist on doing at home hair jobs). I was already a bit nervous because blonde products are typically not reusable (the active ingredients will burst the container), but this promises to be a multi-use product. Still, I wanted to try it. I applied exactly as directed, noticing that it was deep. This isn't always an issue as the initial color can change as it develops. I set my timer for 10 minutes then washed it out as directed. When I stepped out of the shower, I noticed how dark my roots looked - but I wasn't prepared to panic just yet. Wet hair always looks darker, right? I air dried my hair (as a blonde, this prevents damage) and patiently waited to see the results. Finally, my hair was dry so I looked in the mirror. Now, instead of the short dirty blonde roots that I had, I had BROWN roots. I jumped back in the shower, used DISH SOAP on my hair (this removes product but it also royally messes up your hair), got back out, blow dryed my hair, and it's STILL BROWN. I'll be buying a new bottle of bleach asap. In the end, this free product cost me more money since I need a deep conditioner after the dish soap and I need bleach weeks before I expected to. Thanks for trying Influenster, I know it's not your fault. But Clairol, what were you thinking?! Please pull this product off the market! (At least the "blonde" variety!)

I was sent this item complimentary in exchange for my honest opinion. I am 32 years old I get straggly gray hairs randomly throughout my head but mainly on my crown. My natural hair color is a level 3 dark color. I come from parents who did hair owned hair shops I color my own hair 90% of the time so I am familiar with calable of coloring hair. I am also a mom work 40 hrs/wk, so time is always precious. I was sent the color Black for testing of this product which worked pretty well with my hair color. I applied the color as directed to my grays which were in need of color left it on for over the recommended time of 10 mins,as this is a semi permanent color my grays can be stubborn. The application process was easy but there didn’t seem to be enough product in one tube to cover my entire head. After rinsing the product I still had lots of grays the color didn’t seem to take well to. Typically a semi permanent color would not be used for gray coverage. I understand this product may be advertised as something to be used in between full color services, however it does not work for people with gray hair, at least not in my case. I think this product might be OK for someone who had blonde hair or light natural hair but dyes it a different color and wants to use this product in between having their hair fully touched up. I don’t think though that this is an ideal product for someone who is trying to cover gray hairs see my pics starting with before product, with product on head, and after product sales

Lots of compliments...
15 August 2021

I want to encourage readers to think of this as a buildable product vs a product that is going to cover roots in one application. I wash my hair beforehand, and leave it on significantly longer than what it suggests. And I plan on applying it once every 1-2 weeks (using about a third of the container). What it gives me is a very natural and blended look with no harsh color difference with my longer hair. It also gives my hair the best texture! It's like a keratin treatment! I get more compliments after using this product than I do after having my hair done at the salon. Shiny and smooth are worth the extra effort to apply more than once for full coverage.

My first time using this was very disappointing. After trying it a couple of times, here is my honest review. Note I only have a few grays around my temples i was trying to cover.1. It does NOT make my grays dark brown. It does seem to take away their bright/shiny gray colour though, and makes them more of a honey brown shade. They do not stand out as much, and blend better into my natural hair colour. But, it does not offer full gray coversge.2. It must be left in the hair for much longer than 10 minutes. As long as possible is best. I have been doing an hour.3. The die is easy to apply to very specific areas on the head, so I can easily target the gray hairs only.4. I like to use this on Saturday mornings when I'm around the house. I will apply it to specific hairs only, then put my hair in a bun and do laundry/housework for a few hours. It is not noticeable in my hair as long as i don't rub against anything or tough it. Then rinse it off.It is super easy to use (just brush on), and doesn't cause a mess. I don't know if it would be useful if you have more gray to cover, but for me it's pretty good.

Perfect for blending greys during the pandemic
15 May 2021

I started going grey when I was 11, so I was totally grey by 35. Ten years later, at 45 years old, I am considering going natural since I haven't been able to get a decent dye job during the pandemic. This product has been the perfect solution to blend my greys while salons remain closed and I decide what to do with my hair. It's hip length so growing it out is a major undertaking. Despite being colored, my hair is a very natural-looking red, and the auburn Root Touch Up matches exactly. My greys are very, very stubborn, so the coverage isn't perfect -- I still get a bit of grey showing through at my temples and forehead. It's good enough to suit my purposes for now, and if anything, makes it seem all that more natural.

Tears

Imagine my excitement when I found this new product with no mess! My hair grows extremely fast (needing to dye it every 2 weeks) and I don't like the mess of having to mix the regular dye. Sadly, my excitement quickly turned to disappoint, tears, and the realization that I literally just flushed hard earned money down the drain. With great excitement and anticipation, I slowly read the instructions and followed them to a "T" and left the dye on for 10 minutes. After washing my hair, I jumped out of the shower giddy that this was SO easy. One glance in the mirror and it was instant tears. My hair looked as if I did nothing to it. Round 2. Leary, but still hopeful, I applied the dye a second time, but left it on for 20 minutes instead. I kept telling myself, "This has GOT to work. I know it will!" Not so much. Tears a second time. I may have faintly dyed a total of 10 hairs. Guess it's back to making a mess every couple of weeks. Bummer.

Worst product. Want my money back
17 July 2021

Bought this product with high hopes but this is a worst hair dye product. Followed the instructions and actually overly used, more than prescribed kept for almost 25 mins as suggested in review. End result, nothing, absolutely nothing happened. I have used other clariol products but this one is worst. Mom of two toddler don’t have much time, so I chose it and did very late in night for a morning event abd was very disappointed wasting my precious time, money, applying chemicals in my hair and getting no results. I rarely write reviews unless product is super good or super bad. This one is so so bad, I really want my money back.
