Comfortable boot, poor workmanship

I bought these boots on September 29th, 2022, received them on October 4th - started wearing them probably the third week of October. The first thing I noticed is that, for a boot, they are extremely comfortable. I was relieved that they were also waterproof, one of the main reasons for the purchase. About 3 wears later, walking in damp grass, I noticed the water proofing no longer worked - my socks literally soaked. No worries, I bought three different cans of water proofing. On November 25th my pup and I took our normal 6 mile hike and I noticed that both of the boots are ripped at the seams. OK, I thought. I contacted customer service and was told that I would have to return the boots via mail service (on my dime) because they were under warranty, not returnable. ... MoreI bought these boots on September 29th, 2022, received them on October 4th - started wearing them probably the third week of October. I could choose one of two options: If the boots could not be repaired I could have them shipped back to me (not fixed) or get store credit (MSRP). Take note that the woman I spoke with was wonderful. I do like most of what Columbia has to offer in the form of a coat. I would not recommend these boots based on poor workmanship. The seams should have lasted a wee bit longer, for the money. Columbia, I believe you can do better - if you sell poor quality, at least lower the price to be equivalent to the quality.

I've been wanting to get a pair of hikers for a while but there are so many stores and brands it becomes confusing. I usually try to just get everything from JCP so I was happy to see a famous name brand in a hiker for a reasonable price. I am normally a perfect size 5 1/2 in JCP shoes. During long walks my feet tend to spread out a bit so I often buy a hiking boot - not a shoe - that is a tad larger but it comes up around the ankle for support. I decided to order a size 6 and I'm very happy I did. The size is perfect with just a small amount of wiggle room in the toes. I got the gray pair and they're kind of cute too. I did expect the size 6 to be a little wider but they were not, so I would caution that they may run a bit narrow. They seem very well constructed. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase considering I didn't have a chance to try them on first. Thanks, JCP!

I don't normally write reviews, but my college-aged daughter is so happy with these hiking boots that I decided to write something about them. She is going to Costa Rica for a school trip in a few weeks. They said she needs good waterproof hiking boots. I was nervous about buying these boots online without her trying them first because we can spend hours in a shoe store while she tries on shoes and leave with nothing. If she actually selects shoes at a store, she usually complains of blisters and pain when breaking in new shoes.Knowing her history with buying shoes, I still took a chance buying these. I suggested she wear them around campus to get used to them before her long hiking trips in the rain forest. First pair of hiking boots. Ever.

As an avid runner and occasional hiker, I have never had a need for hiking boots. I’ve always made do with duck boots or chacos. (Love my chacos, they cannot be beat. Please try to challenge me on this.) However, with a July trip to Zion national park looming, it sounded like I was going to need some hiking boots. Off to try on boots I went. I am a hard size to find in women’s boots so I figured I would be stuck in the mens. So that’s what I tried on. Not to trash talk the mens boots selection but they were pretty clunky for my feet. Leaving the outdoor store with no boots, online shopping was my next stop. My best friend and her mom are the diehard hikers in my life so I drifted to where they had found their favorites. Columbia. AND THEY DO! Size 12, not too clunky and VERY comfortable hiking boots. I was very surprised to also find that they are not too hot in texas humidity and heat. Thank you Columbia for having a womens hiking boot for me. I’ll have to report back on how they do at Zion. :) happy outdoorsing!

Good Shoes

I originally saw these shoes online and went into my local store to try them on. The size 8 fit me perfect, however they were at the original price of $100 at that time. So I used a search engine and found them elsewhere for a lot cheaper. I ended up getting the dark grey with purple laces for about $50 however I did have to size up to a 8.5 I guess the different colors fit different. But overall it is a great shoe and I’ve only worn them once for a very short period of time so I have yet to really test them out. But on first impression they feel very sturdy and the sole is thick so you don’t feel the impact of the ground with every step.

Happy Dance

I just received my boots after anxiously awaiting them - I’ve never ordered size 11 shoes in my life; I normally wear 9.5 - 10 women’s. So I really appreciated Backcountry’s fast delivery. I had been conflicted on whether to order 1/2 size or whole size larger, based on reviews that recommended either one. The limited stock made the choice for me: a whole size larger was the only option. I am amazed…they fit perfectly! Yay! Happy feet, happy camper! If you’re wondering whether to get 1/2 or whole size up, based on my experience, I’d say get 1/2 if you like wearing thinner socks; get a whole size up if you want the freedom of any type of hiking socks. Hope that helps.

I bought this boot on a whim whe. We decided to go for a 4 day camping trip in a very remote location. I could not be happier that I did! At the start they were extremely comfortable, good support for both arches and ankles. Not once did they slip or hurt. We did A LOT of hiking. Two days in, we were hit with an awful storm that prevented us from getting back to our camp site with our vehicle. I decided to hike up the mountain in the pouring rain the three miles to camp, get our gear, and hike back down. When I say it was raining, I mean I was soaked to the bone despite heavy rain gear. The only thing that remained dry was my feet! Even trudging through water, my toes stayed dry. Not a single blister to be found, either. I previously had a pair of Columbia boots that were waterproof enough for me to standing in shallow tides, which is why I bought another pair confidently. I’m back on the hunt for a pair of hiking boots that are truly waterproof.

Very Comfy right out of the box!
28 November 2022

I needed a new pair of waterproof hiking boots to replace ones that had worn out and were like 10 years old. I did know that typical to all hiking boots, I would need to size up so that I could put my own special insoles into the shoe. I am normally a size 7 or 7.5 (depending on the type of shoe). I went with an 8.5 to allow for thicker wool socks and my insoles. I have been very pleasantly surprised and pleased with this mid-height hiking boot. I find them to be very comfortable right out of the box. I have read where others feel like the boot is not waterproof, but I have had no issue with leakage or wet socks. PLUS, from experience, I know that I will need to purchase some waterproofing to protect these boots for the deeper/wetter snow days. That's normal.

Warm and comfy!
29 December 2022

Purchased these to wear on a trip that included hiking and snow tubing. My feet were never cold or wet, so these boots truly are warm and waterproof! Also, they were light and comfy enough to wear all day, right out of the box.Quick notes: I purchased a half size up so that if I needed thick socks, they would still fit comfortably. You should probably wear long socks to protect your upper ankles from chafing when you tie the boots tight. Also, the grip on the sole is good for hiking on gravel or rocky trails, but not enough to prevent slipping if you walk on patches of ice.
