The pairs of 25's I ran for over 10 yrs did very well: fast, ran at 90psi, not that comfortable, good durablity, when worn out did flat more, cuts did happen from glass, nails etc on the side of the road, but main problem was getting the last 6" over the rim, so very depressing when having a flat, especially trying to get under the tire bead to pry the tire off then having to use a tire bead jack getting it back on- often resulting in pinching the new tube!!Enter the 28. It's just as fast, 50% more comfortable. I'm 200lbs and run at 85psi. The 28 is 75% easier to get the tire on, 50% easier in getting the bead out to remove the tube, then again 75% easier getting the tire back on usually just by hand so eliminating the chances of pinching!! I've had them over 2,000 miles and the first week got a pinch flat from something near the side of a city street, but no problems since on city or rural roads.

In the first choice I made "vittoria rubino" he offered me a price much higher than the competition, which he improved after a market research I did but not satisfactorily. In a second proposal I made for the continental GP5000, thinking that I would have a more favorable price on the tire that was damaged, the OFFER was 8 euros more expensive than the competition per tire with free shipping. I preferred to buy 2 tires from another store with 5 euros shipping. Unfortunately my opinion on sigmasports, in terms of customer response after purchase, is not the best (read also my experience with ENDURAFS260 PRO BIB SHORT shorts).I'm really unlucky with orders from sigmasports. In summary, I believe that the continental GP5000 Folding tire is an expensive, very good tire with a big problem on the side walls. Searching the web, you will find many bad reviews in this area. If you want a safe tire above all, choose something else.

I bought these tyres to go on a new set of DT Swiss ARC1400 tubeless ready rims. The wheel manufacturers recommended 25mm tyres to go onto a rim with 17mm internal width. Having used standard GP5000s with tubes for the last few years on a pair of Mavic rims they were the obvious choice for the tubeless upgrade despite reading the reviews that they are nigh on impossible to get onto the DT Swiss rims! Surely they couldn’t be that difficult to fit? Well, I can confirm that after an almighty battle, two grown men (after calling on a friend for assistance!) against a simple rubber hoop, skinned knuckles, some pretty ripe language and numerous snapped tyre levers these tyres do fit the rims perfectly. Possibly too perfectly hence the difficulty mounting them in the first ... MoreI bought these tyres to go on a new set of DT Swiss ARC1400 tubeless ready rims. Possibly too perfectly hence the difficulty mounting them in the first place. Once on the rim though they popped into place nicely with a quick blast from an air compressor, first time, even managing to get the logos lined up correctly with the wheels. The tyres actually measure the quoted 25mm once fitted and inflated so they look super slick on the rims. No unsightly balloon look or under sized stretched appearance. Once seated and the Continental sealant added they have kept pressure brilliantly. They roll beautifully and the grip gives confidence turning into high speed corners. Worth the struggle getting them on and I’m now just praying they don’t need to come off for some reason any time soon! Tubeless puncture kit and CO2 adapter also purchased as I certainly don’t fancy having to insert a tube on the roadside in the case of a puncture!

I have used the Conti 5000S (and previously 4000) tires for about 12 years or so. I have found them to be durable (generally get over 2K miles on a set), reasonably puncture resistant (they will not be as resistant as heavier weight tires specifically designed to resist punctures) and cut resistant. Subjectively they roll fast, and have a remarkably great road-feel (especially the latest iteration). The rubber has a feel very similar to that on my La Sportiva climbing shoes and holds to the pavement so well that I scare myself. The rubber lasts a long time, but before the tread wear indicators suggest a new tire you probably will want to replace the tire. Eventually the tire will "square-off", the apex tread flattens. When that happens (1500-2000 mi) you will notice ... MoreI have used the Conti 5000S (and previously 4000) tires for about 12 years or so. When that happens (1500-2000 mi) you will notice that the handling in curves begins to feel squirrely. My bike has room only for 23mm-24mm tires and I suspect that the wider tires that most people ride will be better in all aspects. I don't use the tubeless-ready version and have to run higher tire pressure, fyi.
The context is having two road bikes and covering circa 15,000 km a year training, cyclo tourism and a few sportifs. Having tried various makes and settled on Continental 4000. I have been using Continental’s “upgrade”, the 5000s for about two years. The 5000 provides a noticeable improvement in a number of areas such as reduced punctures (currently zero), reduced wear/greater mileage and reduced vibration. I use 25s for the mountain events but train on 28s. Interestingly the 25s at circa 80 psi provide reduced road vibration which is great for long rides.
Yes I cheated on my Contis. I'd been a Conti fan for years but got tired of the tight fit. I moved to two different brands and both had failures so I'm back. The trick to getting Conti's on and off is to use Park Tool TL-6.3 tire levers and wear gloves. They are longer so you have more leverage and the gloves will give you more power without feeling like you're going to hurt your hands. Its still not easy but definitely alot easier and doable as long as you follow general tire mounting procedures. If you're on the road you're likely to already have gloves on anyway. The GP4000's and now GP5000's are known for low rolling resistance and for me, they've been bulletproof on the road. I also like the way they look. I bought a set of 28mm Conti GP5000 clinchers for my Look 785 Huez rim brake. They are simply the best tyres I've ever had. Improved comfort (over 25mm GP4000) was immediately obvious, even on ragged mid-wales roads. Rolling, I did not feel hindered by these bloaters (I used to race on 21-23mm!). Can't yet comment on puncture resistance, longevity, or wet weather performance, because they are fitted to my sunny/dry-day bike and thanks to weather, I haven't done many miles yet. I'm running them with standard tubes, but I'll try TPUs next summer to negate the slight weight penalty over my usual 25mm. They fit my Mavic Carbone SLE wheels perfectly; I didn't even need to use tyre levers. I'll be buying again.
After over 300 miles in the saddle (a new Bontrager that I purchased at REI the day after the tires) I can say that I'm pleased with GP 5000 tires. For starts, they were much easier to install than my old GP 4000 tires. I did move up in size from a 700 x 25 to 700 x 28's. What I noticed was that there was no change in my overall speed but a noticeable improvement in the comfort while riding. I am hopeful that they will provide many more miles of trouble free riding. I also will add that REI had a very competitive price for the GP5000's, in some cases less than a couple of local bike shops, plus they were in stock at the store!
I changed these from my Marathon Plus (810g) tyres to the GP5000 (295 g) for summer. As we will be taking on some challenging climbs over the next few months, I thought I'd get some weight advantage. My friend suggests that the weight loss may not equate to time saved if punctured (the M.Ps' are practically bullet proof! & my Tour favourite), but the GP's have stood up well over those long rides various brambles, thorns & glass on the City streets, including the Ride London where some sh!ts threw tacks in the road. Kudos! The rolling resistance also makes a huge difference too - I'm passing riders downhill without a pedal stroke, whilst they work furiously to catch me. Also the cushioning is phenomenal! I actually down sized from 28s to 25s to go with my rapides cl ii. The 28s made the wheels really unstable in crosswinds very very twitchy and it’s not the first time I’ve come across this, my hunt 34s were horrible with the 28mms. I thinks it’s the hight of them. Anyhow at my weight the 25s are just as comfortable and I find them faster and better able to track my line as they form a better shape on the rim. If 25mm can hold your weight and you’re not riding cobbles or really broken roads personally i don’t see the need for anything bigger. Just my takeOh because the info was actually quite hard to find, on the roval rapide clx rims the tyers sit exactly 27mm after a couple of rides and when they’re flat the tyer will cover the front bead track just fine you ... Continental Grand Prix 5000 Tyre - Black
The Continental Grand Prix 5000 Road Bike Tire is an allrounder tire brought to a performance level. This tire features a Vectran Breaker is spun from liquid crystal-polymer to create a multiple-thread thermoplastic yarn. This partially crystalline fabric is more cut-resistant than aramid and its tensile strength is five times higher than that of steel. A Vectran Breaker is lighter, more flexible and effective against cuts than a comparable nylon breaker, without affecting rolling resistance. Lazer Grip, to make you one with the road. The lazered micro profile structure expands over the tire's shoulder and provides outstanding cornering. Active Comfort Technology (ACT) takes a revolutionary approach in cycling; embedded in the tire construction to absorb vibrations and smoothens your ride. Black Chili Compound features special synthetic rubbers combined with proven natural rubber to high-performance tread mixtures, to optimize rolling properties and grip. E50 e-bike rating features a high quality structure with puncture protection to reduce premature wear brought about by the additional driving force. Ride faster, more comfortable and with increased puncture protection.
