Continental Terra Speed Tubeless Tyre - Black

I ride with a combination of the Terra Trail in front and the Terra Speed in the back. It rolls very well on gravel trails and the Terra Trail in front gives more grip while cornering and riding in wet conditions. In my opinion the rubber nobs on the Terra Speed disappear rather fast. The most anoying part is that the tyre leaks sealant through very small cuts in the tyre. I use Notubes sealant, both the normal and the race sealant, and none of those seem to solve the problem. I must say that the pressure doesn't go much lower due to the problem. It is more a problem on my floor. Although I got in touch with Continental, I NEVER got an answer, nor via the European site nor via the Benelux site.

An Unbound tire option

I bought this tire to complement my matching tire. I've read good stats in this tire for low rolling resistance. It's one of my tire choices for the Unbound Gravel Race/Ride. Depending on the weather and course conditions this tire might be my choice for the day!

Competent, light, and fast - yeah baby!

You'd be hard pressed to find a fast-rolling, 40mm, tubeless gravel tire with an equal or greater competence and value then the Terra Speed. The 320 thread casing yields a wonderfully supple riding, while the soft rubber compound has tenacious grip on gravel and pavement. This is NOT the tire if you ride lots of harsh, sharp-edged rocky single track or to bang down stream beds at race pace. I easily ride through that stuff, but I slow down enough to avoid big hits.The one caveat to my value statement is based on being able to usually find this tire on sale, IE, under $50. At full list price, I might consider other tires with similar attributes. The other trait that is unavoidable in a light weight gravel tire, is that the casing is more vulnerable to punctures and/or tears. I've only had one flat (a nail) in thousands of miles, but I would not recommend this tire for desert areas prone to cactus needles and thorns. (such as southern Arizona)

Continental Terra Speed 40mm gravel tire review

I thought I'd try Continental's gravel bike tires since I have had really good luck with their road and mountain bike tires. Terra Speed Pro tires were priced lower than comparable tires, and pretty light as well. I've got a few hundred miles on these now, and have these insights. #1- They measure slightly small in width; 40mm tires are 1.5 inches. Typically, tires run larger than the advertised size in my experience. #2 - Despite being tubeless ready, I could not get these to seat when I first mounted them. I had to use them with tubes for a month or so to form them to the rims. Second try, they sealed easily with Stan's sealant. They ride just fine, both on gravel or pavement. Continental Terra Speed Protection Gravel Tyre (Black Chili) Size: 700

Great tyres. Used (so far) in dry conditions in the UK North Downs. Rough rocky, flint, smooth grit, and v loose gravel single track. Off camber ruts and tree roots galore. No punctures or slashes. Better than the WTB Resolutes these replaced.Grip has been excellent - very confidence inspiring. And fast rolling for sure on the road and off. They fly along.Will probably struggle when it gets muddy - but I didn’t buy these for the mud. Based on how good the ‘Terra speeds’ are, I’ll look at the ‘Trails’ for when it gets muddy in the winter.

Excellent Colorado All-Rounder

I live in Boulder, CO and ride my gravel bike quite a bit on a wide variety of surfaces here to include gravel, some single track, jeep roads, and paved roads. The Terra Speed can do it all. I've never had a flat (knock wood) and I really like the performance on all surfaces. One nice thing thing as well is that it doesn't kick up rocks like some other tires. I'm on my second pair at this point. Great tire!

Great mixed used tires

Have almost 200 miles on these with my road bike. Rather than buy a new gravel bike, I maxed out the clearance with these since I ride 90% road 10% gravel, just to dip my toes into the idea of gravel. Excellent rolling speed and cornering grip, rated very well on bicyclerollingresistance(.)com. Good for light gravel and packed dirt. Confirmed the 35's are actually 33.5 at 65psi.

Highly recommended

In my experience, the Conti Terra Speed is a great performing tire in all but one aspect: wear. This tire wears down faster than any other tire I've used (when mounted on the rear wheel). As a result, I save the newer tires for race day & the worn ones for training. The tires mount easily tubeless, hold air well, roll extremely fast, have all the traction I've ever needed in the wet & dry, & after one season of use, have never flatted. Despite the fast wear rate, the tires are not terribly expensive & therefore are a good tire in my opinion. If they didn't wear so quickly, I'd give them 5 stars.

Nice tire, not a mud tire, but good otherwise.

Nice multipurpose tire. Does not handle high pressures at all, so stick to the 30's or less (way less maybe).A bit narrow for muddy, seems to work well on dry trails and pavement (or mix).Seated (tubeless) easily because the carcass is stiff. These tires do not stretch with air pressure, so be careful about how high of a pressure you use.

Short Tread Life! Excellent tire otherwise.

This tire is amazing… but I just wanted to mention that the tread life is extremely short. I’m 5’10” and 170lbs and I only got 750 miles out of the rear tire with typical use of 60% gravel and 40% pavement. I plan on purchasing a new rear tire as I expect that two rear tires will last as long as one front tire. It is extremely fast rolling and it’s a wonderful tire but if you’re not concerned about the fastest rolling resistance possible you might be better served with a tire that has a longer tread life. it mounts extremely well and doesn’t give any problems and has good grip as you would expect from a tire with minimal knobs.
