The Chuck Taylor All Star High Top is the sneaker with a worldwide cult status. It is characterized by its distinctive silhouette, the patch with a central star at ankle height, and its cultural authenticity. And like all cult icons, it gets better the longer you wear it. For generations, these classic colors, the wellknown quality, and the vulcanized rubber sole have made the All Star a cult sneaker. Originally, the Chuck Taylor All Star sneaker was developed for the basketball court. However, it soon conquered the scenes of rebels, rockers, rappers, artists, dreamers, thinkers, and individualists, and it has remained a symbol of personal style and individual selfexpression to this day.

I’m gonna say it’s true to size or even runs a lil small because I sized a half size down because it says this style runs large but it does not. It’s weird because I have other pairs in the same size that feel fine. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s made differently that it’s more fitted but either way. Don’t size down. And yes the material is different. The ones before, the textile feels like canvas, as it should. This one feels like felt for some reason on the inside. Not what I was expecting. But I examined it too late to return it so womp womp. Yeah it’s different. And the emblem. Something is just off about it. Maybe because it’s made in Indonesia this time instead of Vietnam. I’ll show the difference. The Green one is the new one. Idk I’m upset

Quality has gone downhill

I've owned many pairs of leather converse hightops over the past 20+ years, I can say on good authority that the quality of these shoes has gone downhill. The last pair of shoes I bought from converse was in 2020, and they are this exact model – black mono hightops – which I loved, so I reordered recently (12/2024). But the new pair I was sent is different in several ways that I'm not happy about. See picture. The new version has a weirdly elongated rubber toe cap that extends up the tongue into the eyelet area. On the previous pair the rubber was shorter and the toe more rounded with much more adequate space inside at the toe overall. The new pair is more difficult to walk in since the bend at the toe is compromised due to the obtrusive toe cap. Plus cheap foam lining, off-black stitching, and glue residue? Returning.

I started wearing All Stars about sixty years ago. They were my go-to shoe except for church with my family. By the time I was fifteen I was wearing a size 13 shoe. By the time I was seventeen I was wearing a solid size 14. No more All Stars for me. I could find no place with size 14 All Stars. Years passed and the electronic revolution took full hold. On a whim recently, I ventured onto shoe store websites but alas no size 14. Then the ephifany. Cheque the Converse website. And there they were, size 14 All Stars. I immediately ordered two pair and waited with great expectations for their delivery. When they arrived I was greatly pleased. The exact same shoe I remembered and they fit. I am just very glad that after more than fifty years I am again wearing my Converse All Stars.

Some quality control flaws
3 October 2024

I've been wearing leather converse for over 10 years. I have to say these newer leather converse are the worst in terms of quality of the shoe itself. The shoe looks and feel good, but the quality of the faux leather material they use is not great. On the part of the shoe along the outside of your foot, the leather will start bending and caving into weird shapes, essentially making it look like you have a roll of fat in your foot. In the black leather model it doesn't look so bad. But for the white leather model, it makes the shoe look really cheap and low quality. It was like this for both white and black leather models I bought, but the black color hides the low quality leather the shoe was built with.

Stiffer, less breathable

As a woman with a vast collection of chucks, it’s been a while since I purchased a new pair. The current seasonal purple is gorgeous, but I was surprised to find the canvas liner replaced with a synthetic mesh and straight up disappointed with the performance difference when I wore them. The new chucks feel stiffer overall, flex less when walking, and left my feet sweaty. In addition to the whole shoe feeling stiffer, the heel construction has also changed. The heel feels like it may be lined with a plastic insert rather than a coated canvas, which is ultimately the deal breaker. End of an era. If anyone with the power to address this is reading: please bring the original canvas construction back.

Thin laces
9 November 2024

I have bought and worn Converse high tops my whole life. I wear the shoes until I outgrow them or they fall apart. I recently had a pair of Chucks reach the end of their life. I decided to buy the same pair to replace them. The first day, I put them on the laces snap. I luckily had an extra pair of laces to put on them. However, I have never once had the laces snap on me. Had I not had other laces, I wouldn't have been able to wear them at all. The quality of the laces has gone down, and is cheap. I've come to know and expect a different quality from Converse. I am disappointed and am considering not buying more shoes from them. I originally planned on getting myself a custom pair as a birthday present but decided the price was not worth the quality I was getting.

Using synthetic material now??
17 December 2024

I've been wearing the classic canvas All Stars for over 20 years and this new pair is sadly very disappointing. I replaced a pair from 3 years ago that were very well-loved and worn. These new ones look exactly the same and have a very comfortable footbed, but the inner fabric is no longer canvas, like it used to be. Seems the Converse has switched to some synthetic material for the inner lining of the shoe, which feels scratchy and makes my feet sweat. I've never had this problem before in the years I've worn these shoes. Super disappointing that Converse is going away from more sustainable materials in using canvas for both the inner and outer fabric of the shoe and trying to cut corners with synthetic material.

Wish there was a CANVAS option

The leather is too stiff. I have a foot condition (chronic inflammation) and the only shoes that don't aggravate it are Converse high tops because I can lace them loose enough to not put pressure on the places where it hurts. So I bought 3 or 4 pair of canvas ones. They're ALL great. HOWEVER (and it's a small but SIGNIFICANT-to-me nitpick) the all white canvas ones have a dark sole. And I NEED a white sole. And the only ones with an all white sole are the leather ones. But the leather is too stiff and I can't get things loose enough to not put pressure on my foot. So, nothing wrong with the shoe itself, just that I can't get an all-white CANVAS shoe with white SOLES. Something to think about, Converse.
