We had previously bought another brand that friends had, and we tried but it was difficult to set up and the wind affected it greatly so it was very frustrating. I researched the Cool Cabana and the next day at the beach we saw a group arrive with one. We watched them set it up and take it down. We ordered right away! We have now used it 4 times and we absolutely LOVE it! It is so easy to set up and take down and the winds don’t bother it at all!! The only improvement we would suggest is maybe a flap on one side so that the afternoon sun could be blocked, rather than having to move our chairs outside of the cabana to remain in the shade. We would and already have highly recommended this product to others!!

I couldn't be any happier with this product. Super easy to setup and you don't need a second person. I never took it out of the bag until I got to the beach. I was anticipating some additional packaging or zip-ties that I might need to remove, but that was not the case. It went right up out of the bag. There is a good YouTube by the Beach Guy that also talked about how to level it by digging deeper holes to stretch the "tail" when you have an uneven surface. It held up perfect to 15mph winds that day. It also came down and packed up so easily too. This thing is brilliant! (A side note: it was a cloudy day, but the dolphin activity was stellar! Nothing but sun since then.)

This year we finally tried a large CoolCabana. It was AMAZING. VERY stable in wind that knocked down all the stretchy canopies around us as well as blowing over a few umbrellas. The CoolCabana flapped and shook in the wind but stayed in place. The large version is an 8ft square shaped umbrella with cloth legs that you fill with sand and that keeps them in place. It works great and it provides 64 sq ft of shade! That’s 66% more shade than a commercial umbrella at about 40 sq ft. Almost 2 umbrellas worth of shade. The CoolCabana packs smaller and lighter than a commercial umbrella and takes only a minute longer to set up or take down. My brother-in-law liked it so much he ordered one from the beach so he’d have it when he got home.My crew is very sun sensitive, and we have always relied on umbrellas (or other) for beach shade. We’ve been going to the beach for 60+ years. My father was devoted to commercial grade canvas umbrellas. The commercial grade canvas umbrella is a 7.5 ft octagon (almost 40 sq ft of shade). These umbrellas are very good even in gusty heavy winds. To accommodate our crew we need to set up 4 or 5 in a row.We have tried other umbrellas (large Patio tilting (very heavy), lighter weight retail style (very weak), etc.) and none compare to the commercial item.We have tried the stretchy canopy thing but gave up after a two seasons because it wasn't good in the wind (these don’t work well in wind and it’s always windy on the beach. I spent half my time adjusting and resetting it whenever the wind came up or changed direction)We have tried the framed 10 ft party tent. We gave up on this after one season because of the weight and setup (These are very heavy, difficult for one person to set up and take down, not great in heavier wind)We have tried fiberglass dome tent style things for little kids (These work okay but they are small and have sides and usually a bottom that detract from the beach experience). Only babies and toddlers used it.We did NOT try, but sat next to, a few of the free flying arched shades. These are TERRIBLE! They make a constant flapping noise, and they fail whenever the wind changes direction. They also flap in the users faces whenever the wind dies down a bit. And if the wind is from land and not sea then the flapping part faces the ocean and constantly obstructs your view as well as hits you in the face. You need to always be facing out from the front of the arch, so if the wind is not directly from the sea, then you are pointed in an odd direction.Do yourself a favor and get a CoolCabana. I promise you will not be sorry.

Great Decision
17 July 2023

I was tired of setting up 2 umbrellas for my family so I have been doing my research to try and decide what to get. I contemplated getting the kind that works with the wind, but I decided on the Coolcabanas. I have no regrets. I just used it this month and it worked amazingly well. On my first day setting it up I had my son help me a bit only because it was my first time. I was prepared with a rubber mallet and I did need it. I guess the sand on our beach here is very hard as you start going a bit deep. The videos that I saw online nobody had to use one. I was also prepared with a small hand shovel for the sand bags. The second day I was confident and I did set it up by myself. I must say that there was minimal wind 8-10 mph winds on these first two days. On the third day we had 20 mph winds, so I again needed my sons help only to hold the middle section as I extended the arms and filled the sand bags. After it was set up it really held up well with that kind of wind. If I had had my umbrellas up I would have been worried and trying to anchor them down. The take down process was very simple as well, again my son helped me take it down on the third windy day. It is for the most part a one person job, but when it's very windy you might need someone to help and support the middle section and the hanging fabric as you are lowering the arms. I just found out that some people fill plastic ziploc bags or water jugs and place them inside the sand bags. I might try that next summer. If it is very windy some people also twist the fabric legs then fill the bottom bags with sand so that the legs won't catch the wind or drag. This might also help with not obstructing your view. The large CoolCabanas provided plenty of shade for our family of four. All four of us could not sit next to each other though. It had to be 2 in front and 2 in the back. It still worked out. We also had to keep moving our chairs forward later in the day because the sun sets behind us at our beach. Not a big deal, but I would LOVE the option to be able to set up a sidewall to help with the sun setting. Is that in the works by any chance CoolCabanas? I might try and velcro my own back side wall next year if I can find the right material in the right size, especially the height. The first two pictures are from day one, it wasn't very windy. The third picture is from the third day which was pretty windy 20 mph. Once set up properly it really holds up well on a windy day. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase, we'll just have to see how it holds up and how long it will last us. I hope it will be durable and that we get to use it for many summers to come. Just like others have said, I wish I had this many years ago.

Coming from having a big beach umbrella, this is a huge upgrade for our family (2 adults and 2 kids). Let me start off by saying that, I do wish the cabana was larger than 8x8. But where the size lacked, the ease of set-up, durability in construction, portability, AND, most importantly, resistance to wind SHINED brighter than the beach sun!We were contemplating all of the other beach shades and the Coolcabana was on the bottom of the list between the Neso, Sun Ninja, and Shibumi. Each day I had to help others get their beach shade set up and balanced. I was always able to set up the CoolCabana on my own. Each day I had to help in a crisis situation when someone else's beach shade toppled over and a pole smacked someone in the head. My CoolCabana never fell once. Those other sun shades are great, but if you're like me and you like to set it and forget it, then the CoolCabana 5 is what you need for your next beach trip.Might have to get the grass kit next for our next camping trip.

OBX Shade
2 July 2024

We purchased a cool cabanas 3 years ago. We spend 2 weeks every year on the OBX where shade is a requirement. We had an LL Bean beach shelter that we have had for years, setting that up was a series of steps, threading poles through material and tying everything down. It was well made but didn't provide the square footage I needed for my family. The cabana can be set up in less than 5 minutes, it handles the breezes at the beach and actually was handling the gusts with out difficulty. There are pockets in every corner to hold everything you want out of the sand. The best thing is, it looks great, cleans easily, it's compact and has a shoulder strap to make it easy to carry. We liked our first one so much we bought a second.

Paradise in a bag
21 January 2024

I rarely leave product reviews, but after using our new CoolCabana today I felt compelled to write this. Absolutely amazing product that works exactly as described. Couldn’t have been easier to set up or take down and worked faultlessly in light to moderate wind. Our only disappointment is that we didn’t buy one earlier! The one tip I’d mention more is to ensure one corner of the sand spike points to the water when setting it up. That way the cabana will be aligned with the beach and parallel to the water. And one final revenue suggestion: sell a branded plastic sand scoop. Buying one from a discount store was $2 well spent!

So simple and so cozy!
3 July 2024

This thing is truly impressive. It's really simple to set up, really stable, and worth the money! It makes you feel like you're in a cozy tent even though it's really just a super sturdy and stable umbrella. Two minor issues I saw: 1) It was not immediately apparent how the poles all stayed together or how you were supposed to use the spike pole. I had no idea instructions were actually sewn onto the inside of the carry bag until after I figured it out, and I only figured it out after watching a YouTuber demonstrate the setup. The company's official video demonstration setup is not helpful because it doesn't show you that you're supposed to drive the spike pole into the sand FIRST, then use a second pole to slide over the spike pole and use it as a hammer to drive ... MoreThis thing is truly impressive. I had no idea instructions were actually sewn onto the inside of the carry bag until after I figured it out, and I only figured it out after watching a YouTuber demonstrate the setup. The company's official video demonstration setup is not helpful because it doesn't show you that you're supposed to drive the spike pole into the sand FIRST, then use a second pole to slide over the spike pole and use it as a hammer to drive the spike deeper. The fact that it came with two regular poles and a spike pole and none of them clipped securely into each other left me scratching my head. I reached out to customer service and they were completely unhelpful, but by the time they replied, I had found that one helpful YouTube video. Some kind of indication written on the poles themselves, like a sticker with an IKEA-style figure demonstrating the hammering action would've been really helpful. 2) Unless the beach is more or less totally flat, 1-2 corners will not touch the ground. I had two dangling (weighed down with sand) because the small beach I was on had a slope that was steeper than most large beaches. I imagine on windy days, this might cause some instability, but it didn't cause any issues for me because I was on a quiet little beach in a bay area. I wonder if there is a way to make the sand pouches in each corner adjustable by a few inches to accommodate slopes?

Worth every penny
30 July 2024

So our coolcabana 5 made it maiden trip to Surfside Beach SC. Previously we have owned different styles of umbrellas as well as most recently a four pole cabana that is made from that tee shirt material. What we found is that the four pole style had its pluses but what you had to do was to keep adjusting th3 poles based on the wind. If the wind got underneath it it would pull the poles out of the sand and then the side would collapse. With the Cabana 5 there are no side poles just a center pole. You need just to be concerned with strong wind which will put pressure on the center pole potentially bending it. Keep in mind that the sides with sand should remain straight up and down and not out at an angle. This will help with the stability.
