This is my second Corsair unit, the first being a slightly different model I bought about 10 years ago. I tried another major brand this time around initially but wasnât happy with the overall quality of that unit. Corsair is what I would recommend for quality. Youâll definitely pay for it (esp in the higher wattage units), but I doubt youâll be disappointed. It will be interesting to see if I still feel the same way after a year or more. Iâll probably revisit this after a while.

Initially when I opened the box, I was surprised to find it came with no instructions or warranty information. I set up this psu in a brand new rig only to find out that the system wouldn't boot at all. Narrowed the issue down to being the psu itself by testing with my old psu. Figured it wouldn't be an issue, I'd just use my old psu until a replacement came. The thing that makes me no longer want this at all is when I discovered not only is the psu bad, but all of the cabling that came with it. Once I got my system to boot, it couldn't detect any of my SSD's. I then Narrowed that down to the cables that came with the psu... so not only was the psu faulty, but every cable I tried to use as well. Super disappointing product.

Power supplies are like offensive lineman in football. If the PSU is garbage, everything goes wrong. If the PSU is awesome, all of your components have what they need to do their jobs, and you forget your PSU is even doing anything. No glamour, no bling, just solid performance under all conditions = the HX1000. A great PSU should be the cornerstone of EVERY build, and the HX1000 definitely delivers. Build quality is excellent, and cable lengths were just fine in the Antec 1900 I used as a test bed. The 1900 has dual PSU chambers, and the stickler for any build is routing the EPS12v cable behind the motherboard, all the way to the rear top-edge. I wasnât able to quite make it from the bottom chamber, but the secondary chamber located right above it worked just fine. ... MorePower supplies are like offensive lineman in football. That basically means youâll have hidden cable management in just about every case out there â very nice. The flat ribbon cables are thin and flexible, sealed to the ends, and do the job nicely. Personally speaking, I prefer Corsairâs sleeved cable kits, but that adds $100 to the build, so not for everyone. Oh, and a case badge, for those that care (I do đ) Iâve always felt that the whole multi-rail concept is pretty gimmicky for todayâs consumer/gaming builds, where load balancing is rarely going to be an issue, but the ability to choose is always nice. As one of the other reviewers mentioned, the HX1000 would be an excellent foundation for a Bit Coin mining rig, where you would max out your PCI-E slots with high-end GPUâs. For the average gamer, youâll barely dent the power spec with a high-end CPU/dual-GPU/pile of SSDâs/water pump/fans/etc. While the HX1000 would appear to be overkill for nearly any standard/gaming setup, itâs well worth the $200 price tag, as thermals are the killer of all electronics, and with so much efficient power available, youâll be keeping those thermals low, and will be running this PSU across a lot of builds, for many years. A high-quality PSU like the HX1000 should be the first thing in your Newegg cart when piecing together any build. I have an old Antec 850w Quattro that Iâve been running for eight years. That PSU has handled more builds than I can remember, and more overclocking/multiple GPU setups than any ânormalâ person would ever throw at it. The HX1000 is exactly THAT kind of PSU, so expect years over service, and feel good about Corsairâs warranty, too. Higher-end companies like Corsair, Cooler Master, and Antec always backup their products â and they donât do it by sending you refurbished replacements (speaking from experience on all three companies). Not really much more to say here. If you know that youâre the kind of builder looking for high power draw with overclocks/multiple GPU setups â then put the HX1000 in your cart, and continue shopping. Easy button purchase, and highly recommended!

Good Points: The higher end Corsair PSUs are second to none. This was purchased as a direct replacement for a returned inferior Corsair TX850M which had little chance of keeping up with the power draw from a 5800X & 6900XT.So on returning the TX, I purchased the HX1000. Needless to say it's cool, very quiet and has more power on tap than my PC currently needs.Improvement Points: Would like to have seen the inclusion of USB monitoring via iCUE or Link.I have an RM650i which allows this and I doubt that the additional cost would be a deterrent to those who purchase "high end" products for their top tier PCs.Other than that minor item which is personal preference there are no "Cons" to the HX1000.
10/10 would buy again. The automatic fan may be "uncomfortable" for folks wanting control over that kind of thing. There's no switch to manually fire the fan up. The automatic system does work however. It's based on load and/or temp. My current system doesn't load the supply over the threshold so it doesn't come on right away. After about an hour of gaming though, it finally gets warm enough to kick the fan on for a bit. You can't really hear it at all though, I had to look. If your case has good airflow with positive pressure, you can feel air flowing out of the supply anyways. I'm running mine with the rail selector in the Single mode. I don't really need the current limiting function of the Multiple setting. Cool idea though for miners. If they have a GPU go ... More10/10 would buy again. If they have a GPU go south or overheat or something, it will (in theory) cut power to that "rail". Overall a great designed supply.
People like to wonder why such a high wattage power supply is needed these days when even in SLI you don't need this much and the answer is pretty simple: You get better efficiency in almost all power supplies when you use only 40-50% of its max capacity. Better efficiency means stable power, quieter systems, cooler systems, and less wasted money -which definitely matters if your computer will run 24/7 at load. You're saving power, not wasting it, by going above your actual system demands. Of course, you'll get diminishing returns going from Gold to Platinum. On the flip-side, if you're going for a silent system this power supply will give you more headroom without its fan ever kicking on. Overall, this is a solid PSU with a good warranty backed by a reliable ... MorePeople like to wonder why such a high wattage power supply is needed these days when even in SLI you don't need this much and the answer is pretty simple: You get better efficiency in almost all power supplies when you use only 40-50% of its max capacity.
