The Commander Core XT made my RGB installation a breeze. Of course, it's made for Corsair RGB fans. One side is for power and the other for RGB and it's all clearly labeled. Be aware that Corsair uses a proprietary connector. The controller handles six fans. With an adapter cable from Amazon I was able to connect my Lian Li Strimer cables which use a non-Corsair connector. The device uses Corsair's iCUE software to handle RGB modes and fan speed controls. Finally, the CCXT comes with two thermal sensors to monitor internal computer temps. The device can attach magnetically to the case.

I bought this after buying a set of be quiet argb lightwings fans that came with an RGB hub, but no pwm hub. That's fine I thought we'll just buy a good fan controller. I bought this one thinking that it would be pretty universal, boy was I wrong. My first observation in trying to install it is that it didn't have a way to connect to the pwm header on the motherboard. Nor a way to connect to the argb header on the motherboard. So I'm like, I guess I don't control this without ICue. Okay, sure, whatever. Proceeded to maintenance route my cables all that good stuff. Then when I went to plug in my standard argb headers, that's when I noticed is controller also has proprietary argb connectors. Oh so I can't motherboard control my fan speeds or use other fans? External RGB strips There are several different RGB strips you can get to desk out your computer. ( the ICUE LS100 Smart RGB LED kit comes to mind. It is absurdly priced at $49.99 for two RGB strips ) But if that’s your jam then go for it. None of this is needed for a fully functioning computer though. The CORE XT can control up to six of these strips. More about RGB control later. Temperature Sensors If you have a temperature sensor (one came with my Corsair XD5 pump ) and your motherboard does not have a temperature header, you can plut it into the CORE XT. The iCUE software will be able to display the temperature from the sensor. This does allow you to use the temperature sensore as an input from for your fan curves, so if your cooling fluid starts heating up you can then have your fans react to that. ( as opposed to only reading the CPU temperature ). Corsair hardware RGB Most componets these days have RGB. WaterBlock, Pump, etc. Oddly you can’t plug these directly into the RGB lighting strip slots on the CORE XT. If you only have one Corsair component you can plug it into the single three pin RGB slot next to the second temperature sensor slot. If you have more than one device ( a waterblock and a pump for example ) you have to daisy chain them together and then plug the last in the chain into this single RGB slot. ICUE software The ique software allows you to control all the above hardware/RGB. You can set up fan curves and they have some pre set for you as well. I think more is made of this feature than is warranted because as your CPU gets hotter, either your fans speed up or your CPU thermal throttles and slows down. If you would rather have a silent PC with less performance, This is how you would do it. The software does have a nice dashboard and you can configure all the stuff it “see” ( the things connected to the CORE XT but it was not able to “see” my EVGA 3080 so it could not control its RGB lights. Nor could it “see” the RGB on my motherboard. so its value as an RGB controller is dubious) There are a lot of different lighting effects and you can download more but again it will only control what it can “see”. In my case that’s 2 out of 4 ( Corsair XD5 pump and Corsair XC7 waterblock while it can not control my graphics card of motherboard RGB ) It was able to “see” the pump speed and read the temperature that came with it. The software also has a bunch of other system things it can display as well like the temperature of the SSD’s, the speed of the embedded fan in my motherboard, and weirdly RAM timings. And while it can not control the RGB on my EVGA graphics card, it can detect and display the temperature of the card. It does have a nice configurable dashboard, but oddly, the software will NOT start showing the dashboard. You must bring it up manually. ( a really bad design choice ) Use case If you are trying to build a “showcase” computer then you might use all the features. If you are of a more practical mide set then it only really has two features of value: Fan speed control and Temperature sensors. RGB is only for show and has no effect on you PC at all. ( side note: one the RGB effects does allow for changing the RGB lights based on CPU temperature, which, if you squint your eyes really hard you might be able to say its useful with a straight face. ) If your mother board does not support the number of fans you need (And none of your other components provide extra fan connections (my case came with a 6 fan controller ) the CORE XT does provide six fan headers. The temperature sensor support is useful assuming your motherboard does not have a 2 pin header on it. Mine did not so it was wither get the CORE XT or not use it. Do you need this functionality? Maybe, but not likely not. Your CPU will have temp sensors and your graphics card will too. Knowing the temperature of you cooling fluid is stable is nice, but any change in that will be reflected on the CPU/GPU temperatures anyway. The iCUE software is free, but it does take more resource than other free monitoring software ( core temp or hwinfo come to mind ) For $50.00 usd, the CORE XT is overpriced. If you want to build a glamorous PC then the cost is most likely an issue for you. If you are on a budget just know unless you need it to connect fans than your motherboard can support there is no reason to spend money on the CORE XT. I’m disappointed Corsair charges this much for something that add so little value.

It's a bit large, but I managed to fit it into a Cooler Master NR200P (with power supply mounted in the front). I'm dual booting Windows and Pop!_OS Linux and needed something to run two extra fans at the bottom (four total). The included fans with the case were going to put me over the mobo fan header power budget, so I needed something. This was on the store shelf. This does store some sort of state after shutting down for static fan speed. I've got all the fans turning pretty slow. If you're hoping to use this in Linux, there is a project out there that it might work with, but in case you just want to run a static speed on a good airflow case, this will work if you get into Windows first. :-) The Windows experience is pretty good for the fans. The magnet was great for positioning it while building. I strapped it in with a velcro tie when finished. Excited about the temp sensors. I might give them a go for the Linux angle and see if that works in Windows and Linux (without software). At least a good thing to have around if you like building. Even if you don't end up using it in the long haul, would be great to have when you need a fan controller in a pinch!
If you are looking for RGB and fan speed controller this is a good one. The previous one I had didn't allow for individual control of each fan. This one does. You can set custom curves for each fan, set percentages or even specific RPM's for each fan. Controller is magnetic and stays in place inside your case. It can also be secured with double sided tape (provided). Includes temp monitor that can be place inside of case. Requires Corsair's iCUE software to control ... which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Maybe one day Corsair will devote some resources to making that software ... umm ... better?
The value is there if you’re looking for a command core for your existing rgb units. With that said, do not buy this as a replacement command core for the h170,150i AIO. The 24 pin connection doesn’t exist on this version of the command core. My command core was defective, and had to be returned to Corsair. Since my i9-1300k melts the sun without a cooler, I decided to try this as a replacement so I wasn’t without my pc for a month. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out.
This is an absolute game changer for Corsair fans. It automatically detects the fan type (if made by Corsair) and easily let’s you set PWM speeds for each fan or all fans together. My rig has 12 fans, and without this thing I would have wires hanging out everywhere. The integrated RGB and fan hub makes installation an absolute breeze. Corsair’s software has vastly improved throughout the years, and this is simply a must have if you are building a PC with Corsair RGB fans/AIOs. iCue is amazingly simple, and you can tell Corsair really put time into revamping it. If you’re building a Corsair rig with Corsair fans, get this. It’s a no brainer.

I have two 120mm fans on my modified GPU so I bought this to control those fans using GPU temps and the rest of my case fans are using the CPU temp. Also nice that each fan can be controlled individually and set to different curves. A few bad things I experienced was the software would not detect one of the fans even though it powered that same fan, I am not using a lot of RGB fans but you have to use Corsair fans to be able to use the RGB plugs. Maybe one day they can make one just for fan control?? I like the fan hub and the option to control how each fan spins but the price was high since I am only using fans and not the RGB. If you want to have 1 hub that can control both your RGB and control your fans via PWM this is the product. (Note: the commander core XT cannot change speeds of 3 pin DC fans, it can only run them at max speed.) You can connect 6 fans plus their RGB (corsair RGB only, but adapters do exist to convert standard 3 pin 5v to corsair connector) into just one device. (Can monitor case ambient temperature, or monitor vrm temperatures for example.) ITS ALSO MAGNETIC so you don’t need to use 3m adhesive, but they do include 3m so if you prefer to mount it that way you can. This product is great. I already have the elite capellix 150i all in one cooler that came with essentially this product but modified to connect to the pump, and missing the temp sensor ports, and the extra rgb expansion port. Corsair themselves said they actually took the exact controller that comes with the all in one water cooler, removed the COM port for the pump, and add those extra ports. The last port on this device is labeled ID and corsair has said they reserved this port for future expansion. I’m not exactly sure what they have in mind, but its nice to know that they have the ability to release an update and give the commander core XT even more functionality. This makes more sense than even the commander pro if you just want to connect up to 6 fans and their RGB and be able to control them all from 1 hub. Commander pro is designed more for connecting other existing corsair controllers to it, while this is designed to be the one stop shop solution for all your fan needs. Glad this came out just a few weeks ago when as that was when I was looking for something exactly like this.
