Corsair K70 RGB Pro Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (Cherry MX Speed)

Its a Corsair board which is well built. This particular board only comes in the OPX switch, but I wanted the color to match the rest of my computer. I would not recommend this for a general purpose keyboard as the activation point of the switches are extremely sensitive. Personally, I am also not comfortable with the travel distance of the switches. They are shorter than I am used to.If you are into opening keyboards up and changing switches, just know this PCB is not the same as the MX Cherry versions. Also, if anything happens to a key, you will have an extremely difficult time finding an opx switch. Corsair customer service was good to me in the past. So that will likely be your only avenue. That or a cheap used one for spare parts.Lastly, the sound profile of these new K70 pro keyboards all have a ring to them. Flick the bottom of the case and you'll hear it. Typing creates the sound. I have put sound dampening material in mine, but it still has a ring. It is coming from the metal plate. There are other options now on the market that have surpassed Corsair. They are still a very good keyboards and the RGB LEDs match up to their iCue software and really allow personalization, for those who care about that.

It also pays to note that while I tend to try out different keyboards all the time, my wife and kids are almost exclusively Razer uses, and while they too generally make good quality keyboards, none of them seemed to hold up as well of feel as good to me as this K70 LUX has, and Im not exactly gentle with them. I have always typed with a heavy hand and do far too much gaming, if there is such a thing. Now we have this new version of the K70, and while I obviously cant say if it will hold up as well as my LUX has, if it comes even close, it wouldnt be surprised. The first thing I immediately noticed about the K70 Pro is it feels almost identical to the LUX, just newer, and that makes sense. So, it was very easy for me to get used it quickly. A few other general features I like are keyboards with open designs, and while the K70 is not unique in this way, it does make it very easy to clean and maintain. Detachable cables are a huge plus in my book. Standardized keys and caps, making them easy to find and replace should the need ever arise. Lastly, the heavy duty construction. I like it when my keyboard feels substantial, not like cheap plastic or having a lot of flex. The K70s aluminum construction definitely does just that. There are some notable differences, some could argue their improvements, between the K70 RGB Pro and the older LUX. The most obvious being the Pro has a detachable USB cable, some of the buttons have been moved, and the USB pass-through port has been removed. The USB cable is also thinner and less rigid thanks to the fact it no longer has to carry extra wires, that was one of my few complaints about the LUX. The media keys are in the same position but are now raised higher off the deck to make them easier to access. The indicator lights are also now hidden behind the black plastic inset panel near the Corsair logo, making for a much cleaner design. Another notable design difference is the front of the keyboard and wrist rest. The rest is much larger than on the LUX, so it takes up more desk space, but works exactly as it should. If youre like me and either dont have the space for larger rests or just dont like them, the front part of the aluminum case is designed a bit differently as well. The LUX has an angled front end whereas the Pro is much more squared, personally, I much prefer the tapered front end design vs the squared off style if youre not going to use a rest, but thats a personal opinion. In most other respects, the Pro and LUX are nearly identical. The good build quality, aluminum deck, open design for easy cleaning and maintenance, excellent RGB back lighting, and so on. While it may take up a bit more room on your desk, moving from an older K70 to the Pro should be easy like it was for me. Overall, I can honestly say that I am pleased with the K70 Pro. Its a newer addition to a quality line of keyboards that has already earned fan. A step in the right direction in just about every aspect in my opinion. This one is an easy 5 Eggs for me.

This Corsair K70 Pro keyboard has an aluminum frame so its rock solid and the keys have the slight indent to let you know you are aligned on the keys. The Cherry MX mechanical keys have a nice springy responsiveness so when you hit the key there is no doubt its actuated. When I first started playing games on this keyboard I had to rethink some of my FPS moves because the keys would respond so fast that I would often over step my intended position. I can’t tell if it’s the Corsair’s AXON with Hyper processing which is supposed to be 4 times faster than other gaming keyboards or just the smooth actuation of these keys but one thing is certain this keyboard is comfortable and it responds. The only downside is that this keyboard does not have a USB pass through port nor does it have any dedicated macro buttons. My mouse and headphones are wireless so the lack of a USB port was not important to me. Using the profile Hotkey is not quite as convenient as dedicated macro buttons but it works well enough for me. Note also that this keyboard does not include FPS and MOBA textured keycap sets, all the keys have the same texture. Overall I am very happy with this keyboard which I use for gaming and work, its everything I was looking for in a keyboard.This keyboard is packed with features whether it’s for gaming or watching videos or just office work. To me the most important thing is whether the keys feel good and are easy to find without looking. When you are in the middle of a game the last thing you want to do is lose time trying to find the right key. For me the indents in the top of the keys, the keytop size and spacing just feel natural. Corsair gives you the ability to configure macros and/or reassign keys via the keyboard hardware or using the Corsair iCUE software. The hardware macros can be recorded on the fly and saved to function keys. There is a Profile Hotkey for selecting profiles and a Macro Record Indicator built into the keyboard. The software profiles are set up and controlled from within iCUE. You can set up to 50 different profiles with custom macros, actions and lighting effects. The profiles can be stored inside the keyboard’s memory so that you can quickly switch profiles without having to use the iCUE software. With the iCUE software you can configure the RGB color patterns down to the key or you can use one of the many already configured in the software. The ability to light down to the key allows you to highlight the keys you need for a specific tasks or games. You can also use the iCUE software to sync your lighting effects to other Corsair products. Corsair also includes a Windows lock key that disables the Windows key on the keyboard as well as a Tournament Switch on the back that disables all the custom profiles for competition play. The keyboard comes with a nice magnetic palm rest and like most keyboards you can adjust the height to meet your needs. Most keyboards come with media keys as does this one but Corsair ups the game by including a volume roller control, a quick turn and the volume is set. The volume roller is one of those items you never knew you needed until you get it and then it becomes a must have item. The keyboard attaches via a USB-C to USB-A six foot braided cable provided.
