First pair I bought was over 7 years ago, and I loved them. I decided to buy my second pair recently. Don’t know but it seems like the materials and the mechanics of them felt way below par and I believe overpriced.I was very dissatisfied and disappointed with this pair so I returned for exchange for different pair. These were a little better (although I thought expensive and still felt like cheap plastic frames). Also, I was charged for delivery plus tax when it was supposed to be free! Which I had to call several times and on hold for a while to finally get reimbursed 2 weeks later.

The Diegos are awesome! But I’m very disappointed in Costa’s support on the reeftons I bought just a few weeks earlier. I bought them in a bass pro shops in the Florida keys while on vacation. It looked like a bass pro. It was actually a sunglasses hut inside a bass pro. Even though the invoice read sportsman’s warehouse…. Anyway, I bought the wrong color lenses and wanted to exchange them. No big deal, right?…. Wrong. After a few HOURS On the phone with bass pro, sunglasses hut, and costa, and a wasted two hour drive to a sunglasses hut, I am finally told that my only option for exchange is to personally visit a sunglasses hut that is ALSO INSIDE a bass pro shops. costa told me they could help in no way. Instead of driving four more hours, I sold the reeftons on ... MoreThe Diegos are awesome! But I’m very disappointed in Costa’s support on the reeftons I bought just a few weeks earlier. Which is what I will do in the future.

Sunglasses are something I can't leave the house without and are a very important necessity in my line of work. Being a fishing guide in Islamorada, good Sunglasses are one of my most important tools. I was always a big Hamlin guy after trying many other styles. The Hamlin style sunglasses made by Costa Del Mar were my Go To pair of shades ON and OFF the water. Not after DIEGO though. The new DIEGO glasses are a true gift to the Outdoor community. These glasses are (were) the best glasses I have ever bought and worn. I wore them constantly and especially when I was saltwater fishing. Blue frames with blue lens, nice. Unfortunately.... I was in the ocean and a wave hit me from behind and knocked my glasses from me.. I mean, I had the on with a “secured strap” and just like that... GONE... in to Davey Jones’ Locker! To be never seen again. Blue lens, blue frames plus blue ocean water equals -$279!For those debating getting them because of the price, buy them! The enhancement of how the lens brings out the colors is awesome. The grass is greener and you can tell (sometimes) where the dead grass is by bringing out the brown/dead grass. The ocean water is brighter. If I can rewind time to NOT be in that ... MoreThese glasses are (were) the best glasses I have ever bought and worn. Two things, one good and some bad (respectfully): The glass is very clear and seems to be durable more so than the more common plastic lenses (whatever they're made of). I've found this out due to the fact that the frame is sub-par and allows the set to fall off of your cap.... very easily. I'm a "glasses on the cap kinda person" so this is my habit while they're not in use. Additionally the frame extends far enough past my ears to interfere with my cap making them sit weird on my somewhat crooked nose. This would not be a problem but at the tip of the ear-piece there's this mud-grip-esque rubber piece that makes them just thick enough to achieve this misalignment for me. The frame isn't as durable as I had hoped because after they fell of my cap there are now ... The frame isn't as durable as I had hoped because after they fell of my cap there are now indentations on the frame. Completely my fault on all of this (I should use the wire thingy I also ordered for the glasses) but I thought this review may help in deciding on a pair of Costa Diego's.
I bought these glasses about 9 months ago. I got them because I had heard about Costa’s great customer service. About two months ago I had an accident at my workplace. I work in a metal roofing manufacturing facility and a pack of metal slid off a truck and hit me in the face. Luckily, I had my Diego sunglasses on and the frame protected me from getting hit in the eye. However, the impact caused my glass lense to shatter in the frame. I reached out to Costa to purchase a replacement lense and their only offer was to buy a new pair of sunglasses at a discounted rate. Unfortunately, I cannot financially afford to purchase a whole new pair of glasses. I cannot complain about the glasses at all! They undoubtedly protected me from losing vision in that eye. The costa Diego is an amazing frame and great sunglasses all in all. The Diego offers full coverage of the eyes in case you have a projectile hit your face and the ones I ordered came with the sleek wetland camo design and will be my upland/waterfowl glasses. These sunglasses came with the copper lense with green mirror, great for high light situations and river fishing. However I switched these Diegos to the lowlight lense for hunting purposes. Very pleased with the Costa Diegos. And to top that all off the Diego's are usually around 300 dollars new and I paid under 200 for these!!
I understand the performance first approach that’s mentioned in the description here but in my opinion that was not accomplished well. The light/thin/cheap feeling materials (relative to my other pairs of costas that I’ve had over the years: tuna alley, cortez) paired with the lose feeling hinges really gave me the impression that they were not well constructed and wouldn’t be up for much abuse. In fact, I actually thought something was wrong with them when I pulled them out of the case for the first time. I’ve had durability issues with costa in the past (partly what I believe weak construction / partly hard use by me if we’re being fair) so I just didn’t feel comfortable starting off with such a (IMO) weak feeling frame. That being said optics were great as usual ... MoreI understand the performance first approach that’s mentioned in the description here but in my opinion that was not accomplished well. That being said optics were great as usual and we’re just like my previous pairs from what I gathered by walking around for a few. Nothing I’ve personally tried rivals costa in terms of clarity.Overall, maybe theyd be okay if you’re looking for a 2nd pair to switch it up the style occasionally but for me with the price tag as high as it is I really wanted something that I know would go the distance. I got 2+ years out of my tunas before the lenses cracked after they fell of the back of my head when I was taking a sip out of my water bottle. The hinges got lose so they came right off. I feel like the same thing would happen with these but sooner. Sent these back gonna try another pair.
Costa quality has taken a dive in recent years. I've owned three pairs of Harpoon, moved on to Rafael and now these Diegos. The overall quality of build is terrible on these. The hinges feel like they're barely holding and the plastic feels chinsy to where I feel like I need to be careful putting them on. The hinge inserts in the plastic creak and squeak when opening them like they're screaming for help. And I don't know whats going on with these plastic "vent" inserts but they stick out making the glasses look even cheaper than they already feel. Def not worth what I paid for them. These are def not built in America. Do yourself a favor and head over to Oakley where they still build quality glasses built in the USA, especially if you are a veteran, use Oakley SI. ... At sea. Great lenses, little scared that the hinges might break easily if I man handle them to much. I'm very glad I got them at the price I did, full price is a lot for glasses worn in a real marine environment where they might get damaged easily. Its perfect for weekend warriors on smooth seas our for a day of trolling, but full on sailing and commercial fishing....I hope they last.
