In the not too distant future, the government is run for profit by a new "royal class" of multi-national CEOs. Their greed and absolute control of the economy has reduced all but a privileged few to lives of poverty and desperation. Out of the oppressed masses rose The Resistance - an underground organization focused on overthrowing these powerful rulers. The valiant efforts of The Resistance have created discord, intrigue and weakness in the political courts of the new royals, bringing the government to brink of collapse. But for you, a powerful government official, this is your opportunity to manipulate, bribe and bluff your way into absolute power. To be successful, you must destroy the influence of your rivals and drive them into exile. In these turbulent times there is only room for one to survive.

I love this game! It's such a small box that makes it easy to Cary anywhere but boy is it a blast to play. This is a bluffing game for up to 6 players. Each player gets 2 secret roles, and your cards are your lives. You lose one you're ok, you lose both and you're put of the game. Last one standing wins. Each character has an action and reaction so to speak. But the thrilling thing here is that you can lie about which character you have so long as you don't get caught bluffing! You want to use these characters abilities to knock people out of the game while hopefully painting a believable lie yourself or tricking players into thinking you're bluffing! Everyone that has tried this has had a blast playing!

Coup is an inexpensive short bluffing game that plays best in groups of 4 or 5 players: less players and the game is not that great; more players and the downtime is pretty high. If you also consider that this game has player elimination, you don't want the players that are out of the round to be sitting without being able to play for too long.In this card game each player is dealt two cards. Each card represents a person that the player can influence to perform actions: steal money from another player, assassinate, block assassinations, etc. The fun part of the game is that you don't need the appropriate character to be able to perform those actions, you can just bluff and pretend that you have a particular character. If nobody calls your bluff, then you're fine. ... MoreCoup is an inexpensive short bluffing game that plays best in groups of 4 or 5 players: less players and the game is not that great; more players and the downtime is pretty high. Unfortunately when there are three players left, this game has a bit of a kingmaking situation, where one person knows they can't win, but gets to decide which of the other two players will. That lowers the rating of this game a bit for me.

I must preface my review with I have only played Coup with my daughter (8) head to head. I have yet to play it with more players or even another adult, which may change my opinion. The game looks really nice and the character powers are interesting and varied, with the exception of the ambassador who's only power is to draw 2 more cards and discard him (effectively losing a turn doing so in the hope of drawing a useful character). In the two player variant, being able to chose a character is interesting and offers the only real skill in the game. Getting your second card at random will likely decide the winner, as the mix of cards effectively determines who will perform their first 'coup' or assassination.. You can still bluff, so there is some skill/strategy, but ... MoreI must preface my review with I have only played Coup with my daughter (8) head to head. If I haven't got time to play King of Tokyo then I probably don't have a long enough span of time to 'need' to fill, I'd rather ask everyone how their day has been.

Fast playing and fun

Another great new game we play. Again you target players to eliminate. The game has lying and risk. You gamble on whether others are lying or telling the truth. You can always challenge, but if your wrong you lose a life and you only have 2. You can also lose a life in a coup and there’s no way of stopping that. Easy to learn, but a little complicated. This game is more for teenagers and up. It’s a quick playing game and doesn’t take long.

Fun, Easy to Learn,
11 December 2021

Fun, quick and easy to learn to play, games go quickly so you can play 1 round or several depending on how much time you have, lots of different iterations so the game is different each time. I played with 4 other adults. None of us had ever played the game, but we picked up on it really quickly and had fun playing several rounds. Even my dad who usually hates hidden role games really enjoyed this one.

Fun, quick, engaging bluffing game

Very fun game. Gameplay is quick. Allows for replay and continuous engagement. This is a bluffing game and can be hard for young children or bad liars. Really good card balance. The mystery of which cards your opponents have is very enticing. Have played with 4y kids on up. All love it.

Great micro game

You can learn this game in like 2 minutes, and there isn't a lot of moving parts. It is one of the simplest games I've ever bought. Which means you're going to get out of this game only as much as you and your opponent(s) put into it.You and your opponents will have an alliance with two characters who give you special "abilities". Your job then is to eliminate the alliances of your opponents before they eliminate yours. Your alliances will either give you the ability to get money, which will let you destroy an opponent's alliance, or outright just destroy the alliance for free on your turn. This would be pretty boring except no one knows who has which alliances and alliances will change throughout the game.So the only consistent way to win the game is to lie ... MoreYou can learn this game in like 2 minutes, and there isn't a lot of moving parts. There's a lot of mind games to play in this game, so this may or may not work for you or your group. If it sounds like it will, then I think you can't go wrong with this game. It's easy, it's quick, and it'll have you laughing.

Major hit at get togethers!
25 January 2022

I bought this ASAP after playing with friends and have introduced to more people! It’s super simple to explain, play and catch on to! You can either tell the truth or lie about which character you are in order to be the last player alive. It’s so funny to try to catch people in their lies, try to figure out everyone’s different strategies, and trying to “kill” the biggest threat! I’d highly recommend this game to any group who wants a type of game that’s simple to play, easy to carry (small box of cards), and will be a different game due to changing character cards each time. I’d also recommend playing with more people if you can (up to 6) for more of a challenge.

Simple, quick game of deception.
1 March 2023

In coup you have two cards that each allow certain actions based on what card it is. Players take turns trying to expose the other players' cards until only one has one or more cards remaining unexposed. It is a game of bluffing. If you bluff and are challenged, then one of your cards is exposed. If you challenge and it was not a bluff, then the challenger must lose/expose one of their cards. Gameplay is simple and games between two last less than 10 minutes. I have not played it with more than 2 but I suspect that would actually be more interesting since the deception would be harder (and the game would probably take up to 15 minutes.) With only 2 people a lot can depend upon what cards you get and any mistake is usually the only you get to make.

The Reckoning

The gap divides the citizens. The bureaucratic parliament struggles to quell the insurgents. You are funded by a wealthy benefactor, an assassin, or maybe something else entirely. This hidden roll game takes simplicity and direct action to the next level by making everyone lie right out of the gate. Recommended for large play groups and close friends.Great game
