Courvoisier VSOP Cognac Initially founded in 1828 by Felix Courvoisier, Maison Courvoisier is located in Jarnac, at the heart of France’s Cognac region. They are now considered to be one of the 'big four' cognac companies (along with Hennessy, Rémy Martin, and Martell), with Courvoisier as the youngest. Their signature style reveals the intricacies and exuberance of the floral cognac. Interesting Fact: Napoléon III (the nephew and heir of Napoléon Bonaparte) personally requested Courvoisier - and even awarded Maison Courvoisier the title of "Fournisseur Officiel de la Maison de l'Empereur" (official supplier of the Imperial Court) in 1869. This was one of the reasons it became known across Europe - and was enjoyed at many royal courts With their VSOP (Very Special Old Pale) Cognac, Courvoisier have skillfully crafted a blend of several crus creating a perfect balance between the floral and fruity Fins Bois and harmonious Grande and Petite Champagnes. When chosing, they ensure each is at the peak of their aromatic potential. It extends a delicate bouquet and excellent marriage of oak and exotic flavours. Whilst the aroma is subtle it has refined under-notes of peach, toasted almond and jasmine. More from Courvoisier Perfect Serve If enjoying straight up on its own, ensure you enjoy this at room temperature from a tulip / snifter glass. However this also works exceptionally well in cognac based cocktails.

"Strong orange like gran marnier, but it's beaten out by vanilla and maple."slender black pepperI can only really detect the tiniest trace of the almond because it's a little too harsh for me.Not bad, but a little too bitter to be outstanding. To reduce the bite, a little water works wonderfully.3.5 stars immediately after release.Following a few hours of breathing, almond and orange lead, then vanilla and maple. With a little water, the biting is drastically decreased and almost nonexistent.

This was a very smooth and elegant VSOP. I found the nutty and oaky flavours to be balanced with a vanilla sweetness which made for an enjoyable sip. Well-balanced and good value at this price point, and I would purchase it in the future to enjoy neat or - my preference - mixed with tonic. (I received this to review as part of a free sample program)

Aromatic deliciousness in a glass is how I would describe this brandy. It has some really gentle floral aspects to it but it's the oak flavour that I love. It's such a well-balanced brandy which deserves to be enjoyed on it's own. If you like a creamy smooth brandy that doesn't break the bank, this one is for you.

I have now learned that it is good to visit a new cognac a few times before getting a good idea what it’s all about. That can be said for the Courvoisier VSOP. Being a standard cognac from one of the top four houses, I wanted to see what it was like, as it came with some good reviews and the price point was very approachable. Even if I ended up not being crazy about it, I wouldn’t feel irritated at the purchase. So, on my first tasting, I was not that impressed overall, so I waited another two days to give it another shot (literally LOL!!!). Now finishing up this tasting, I have to say I am perfectly satisfied with what I am experiencing. Maybe it needed a couple of days to open up? Now finishing up this tasting, I have to say I am perfectly satisfied with what I am experiencing. Maybe it needed a couple of days to open up? The nose on this is very warm, and I am getting a strong smell of pecan, as well as some butterscotch too. I am finding that giving it some 10 good minutes to breathe out of the bottle has helped with the flavor, too, as I am getting a nice warmth throughout the mouth and can taste a hint of nutmeg in its finish. Not an overly complex cognac, but the finish has a nice burnish to it and satisfies me quite nice. It is good to know this is a solid VSOP, and I know I can enjoy this, as well as some others I have purchased (ABK6 VSOP, Ferrand Ambré, Remy Martin VSOP), even if it is not the first one I’ll be reaching for.
VSOP Courvoisier is a fantastic cognac for beginners. It is delicious on its own and blends wonderfully, especially in a B&B or Beautiful cocktail. At $35 to $45, it represents excellent value.
High quality. Typical Courvoisier flavor that has a more deeper old world cognac taste and feel. I prefer Hennessy or Hine, but this is a MUCH BETTER value. Especially with the latest price bump in cognacs. Best bang for your buck vs. the other VSOP's of Hennessy, Remy, and Hine. I am buying this now because of it.
I got this product through a free sample tasting program. Courvoiser VSOP Cognac is a solid entry level brandy; both good to enjoy as it is or used as a cocktail mixing. It provides a good representation of the flavours and characteristics you would expect from a Cognac at an affordable price. It would be fair to say for entry level drinkers, it gives reasonably good quality and a basic impression of what is Cognac is. If this hits the right note for you, there will be no regrets in investing in higher budget Cognacs in the years to come. If this is not your thing, you can rest assure that this makes a solid cocktail mix without compromising quality or breaking the bank. For more experienced Cognac drinkers, this may not offer the expected levels of flavour and smoothness. Although there is speculation and debate amongst aficionados of declining quality standards over the years, there is little fault to find bearing in mind this is an entry level beginners Cognac. Even though it doesn’t blow you away, it is reasonably good quality with plenty of versatility in methods of consumption. Above all it’s at a decent price so there is really nothing not to like.
Brandy is my night time tipple and it has to be a good one. This is absolutely spot on, slight vanilla and chocolate undertones and a wonderfully smooth drink with no harsh after taste. I don't like sweet drinks and this has the right balance for me. Just a touch of sweetness and in no way sickly. Absolutely worth the money!
I found this to have a really distinctive taste- really warming and smooth! The drink came in an elegant bottle and I was lucky enough to receive it as part of a free sampling programme. The brandy tastes great neat although I do enjoy using it in a cocktail or even the odd bit of cooking. The benefits of this brandy is that it has a more fiery taste than certain others and seems more distinctive. I would recommend it to other brandy-lovers and found it to be highly enjoyable and comparable to other high quality brandies that I’ve tried. I would definitely purchase this product and am looking forward to drinking more of it!
Well-balanced and smooth brandy that I like to drink neat when I want to unwind after a long day. Nicely blended floral and oak flavours. Very distinctive and warming taste, in an elegant bottle. High quality brandy for any brandy lover. Definitely recommend it! (I received this to review as part of a free sample program)
