To be honest these are my first pair of clipless pedals. I did a few rides with a Shimano setup before I purchased the CB pedals though. I like the extra float with these as well as the platform around the clip. Coming from flats, the smaller shimano pedals felt really weird with no platform. The shimano pedals also didn't allow for much movement on the pedal before releasing. I tend to move around quite a bit while riding, so the CBs fit my style a little better. The finish is great. I've only put 75 miles on the pedals, so I can't attest to their durability. From what I've seen so far, I don't think there will be any issues, though. The Mallet E is very customizable. I've used eggbeaters on my gravel bike, but never have been brave enough to go clipless on my mountain bike till now. Wanted to stay in the same cleat ecosystem so I could interchange shoes, and these were a perfect introduction. Felt planted like using flats but still the security of being clipped in. My local trails and bike are more XC/DC leaning, but I don't think I'd change to a slimmer pedal because I like the feel of these so much and they're still very light weight. They were a little stiff to clip in and out of at first, but with some use they loosen up a bit plus I got more used to them. Now I have full confidence in them and am enjoying the clipless experience

Amazing pedals!

After using Time ATAC-Z pedals for many years, mine had finally worn out (bent spindle and parts are impossible to find/replace). Time (!) to try something new. Gave these a shot based on the advice of a fellow rider, and I've been very impressed. So much so that I installed these on my trail bike and bought a set of the DH for my eBike. Both work great and function essentially identically. Easy in/out, great stability whether clipped in or not, seems very strong.

Comfy and secure

I have these on both my trail and hardtail bikes and can’t imagine ever going to anything else. Allows for slight float/movement when pedaling around so my knees are happy, but the solid platform underneath means I feel more comfortable really getting after it on the downhill. The platform itself isn’t so large as to be an issue on roots and rocks, unlike other flat pedals. Obviously these are for clipless shoes, but the platform is large enough that you could keep on riding if needed, or pedal from the garage to your car in your flip flops. Love the splatter design over the original color ways too.

Decent price shipped out fast but spindles are sticky even after cleaning and lubing. I suspect a spindle upgrade may be in order. Possibly got baked by sunlight in display case somehow affecting the spindles, matbe just a guess, still Great looking pedals. Click system rocks as always.

Rode these pedals pretty hard for 2 years now and they've been awesome. Never prematurely released and the cleats are the best feeling on the market. Only negatives are the cleats need to be replaced more often than shimano ones. After two years of enduro/DH the spindle is too damaged to ride. Not disappointed its kind of expected.

Quality build. Really nice pedals. I’m new to Crankbrothers, as have been using Shimano XT’s for years. These give a much better platform, and after a while getting used to them, I’ve decided the float is a nice feature. Compared to SPD’s they take a bit of wearing in at the beginning. Clipping in to begin with was super hard, but once the cleats wear a little they are much better.

Nothing special.

First pedals I’ve bought since the late 90s. Thought they’d have more float. No float, really. Make my knees hurt just like SPDs. Sad to hear Speedplay was bought by another crummy company and Frogs aren’t made. Those were the only good pedals made.

OK but heavy.
14 November 2018

These are great pedals for their intended audience. Enduro or agressive trail riders. The build is good, they seem to be durable. If there is one major problem though, and that is that the spindle length is not long enough. So if you're using AM/Enduro shoes, you will bind up against the crank arm if you try to unclip during parts of your stroke.Crankbrothers sells these in an LS (Long Spindle) version and I highly recommend getting those instead. For those, who like me, got stuck with this version, they (and MEC) sell a long spindle upgrade kit.My only other complaint is that they are heavy for what they are. I may switch back to the Candy pedal.

My Crankbrothers Mallet E's have been flawless when paired with either my Five Ten Kestrel's or my Giro Terraduro's - the platform really provides that "flat pedal feel" for stability and control while still offering the efficiency or being clipped in. As another reviewer mentioned, setup is important and you may need to use the included cleat shim and/or adjust the traction pins to make sure your shoe can exit out of the pedal without too much friction. Very simple to enter and exit out of the 4-sided clip mechanism when properly set up, and CB now offers their new Easy Release Cleat for those who are looking for an even quicker unclipping experience. The Enduro cartridge bearings and Igus bushings have held up to a ton of abuse, but I still like to regrease mine ... MoreMy Crankbrothers Mallet E's have been flawless when paired with either my Five Ten Kestrel's or my Giro Terraduro's - the platform really provides that "flat pedal feel" for stability and control while still offering the efficiency or being clipped in. Definitely my #1 choice for an enduro-style clip-in pedal - very happy with this product! Also pretty stoked on this colorway - it's a Jenson exclusive, so you won't be able to find it at any other retailer.
