I purchased this SSD to store a comprehensive backup outside my home. It seemed reasonably fast on a usbc-usbc connection, especially transferring SSD-to-SSD (I nearly filled the X6 up). I expect an SSD to be more stable over years then an HHD. It is compact yet not so small (like a thumb drive) to be easily lost. One quirk others have mentioned is that the readme file on it recommends installing the storage executive software to update the firmware, but the software does not recognize the X6. But I didn't reformat or re-flash the firmware and found the out-of-the-box performance acceptable.

I love this company that make these drives! They are reputable and worth every dollar spent. This was very easy to format to an imac mini late 2012, it is lightweight, very portable, and the usb-c adapter that come with is very short for space, but you will need an usb-a if you still have old school items you need this for, as it does not come with one. I can't think of anything bad about this because it is a 4TB SDD and hasn't given me any hiccups since I started using it. This drive is so great, I may just buy another one to use when apple drops the next M2 iPad and buy the lowest storage and just attach this to it!

So I purposefully went to the store to look for something that would be fast on loading games onto it. I bought this Crucial SSD 500GB Drive for that sole purpose. Let me tell you downloading Games and installing them onto it has been nothing but a breeze thus far. I truly enjoy my purchase and I have enjoyed doing business with Crucial and will continue. I was most certainly blown away after connecting it to my PC. The installation was easy and, my PC Found the Drive right away. The drive comes with a USB 3.0 Cable that I connected to my USB 3.0 Port on my Computer and installation on Spin Disc's are a thing of the past now.

Very well made it is shockproof and drop proof very compact will fit in the palm of your hand Has very fast transfer speeds. This will make a perfect companion for those that require a huge amount of storage space but need to be portable and fast. I actually have two of them, one is used for my photos as the main Drive in the second one is my backup. I highly recommend the solid state drives
My wife and I had been using External Hard Drives for backups and decided it was time to switch to External SSD's. Definitely prefer SSD's over HDD's as SSD's don't have moving parts and for external drives the lack of moving parts is better. There are faster SSD's out there but this one definitely does the job. Highly recommend for anyone looking to switch to external SSD's.
Bought this for my brother, who is travelling for business. He wanted an external storage drive that would be able to transfer data faster than his external mechanical drive and be much smaller. This X6, while definitely not the fastest portable SSD, was exactly what he wanted. The X6 fits in a small palm of a hand and the plastics feels well put together. But don't be fooled by the spec sheet and do your research! The internal interface is SATA and the 2+ TB I transfered to the X6 so far had write speeds at around 350MBps before it hit the cache limit of ~450GB, after that it wrote at under 50MBps (I ended up transferring the data in 450GB sections). I havent done too much with read tests, so I cannot comment on that side. Altogether I do belive it was a good ... MoreBought this for my brother, who is travelling for business. I wasn't expecting this to be so compact, so having it in my kit bag really helped. It took up noticeably less room than a regular 2.5 SSD in a case. Formatting it was quick (Mac) and transfer speeds were excellent. I use it to transfer RAW images from an SD card to the Crucial SSD via an iPad Air. Works great and the whole set up is so compact!
Awful product. Now transfers at less than 40mbp/s when connected in a USB-C port on two different computers, same ports used to transfer 400mbp/s. I contacted Crucial support and they were terrible. Even when sent a picture of the serial number, they told me it was "wrong". Said that I would need to run a computer in bios for 8 hours with the device plugged in to force activate their "Active Garbage Collection". Painful. I will try their fix, but at this moment, I cannot recommend anyone buy this product. Very disappointing.
These are the sixth and seventh units of this product I have purchased. I am in the process of transferring all of the data on my aging HDD backups to these puppies. This includes the whole family's CD's, audiobooks & other audio that's been sitting on my 2006 NAS. (!) I also purchased one for each family member to back up their laptops. Easy-peasy to reformat (on my Mac, I used Disk Utility) and start using. Of course they work seamlessly with Time Machine. No real idea what the lifespans of these units are, but I would assume they would far surpass that of any HDD.
I've been using this SSD as an external boot/main drive for an old iMac whose internal disk was failing intermittently. So far, no problems. Note that when using this drive with a USB-A adapter, you might need to flip the USB-C connector to get the full bus speed, (though if your computer is old enough, that won't matter). But that's no fault of Micron, it's the behavior of the USB standards.
