This is my 3rd “BG”- series reel. I have a 3k, 3500, and now a 4k. I love these reels, and would highly recommend any of them to any angler. I knew what I was getting, but I was still very excited waiting for it. It took 3 or 4 days from ordering, and it was on my front porch. Nothing damaged, ready to go. I used club points from my credit card, and the purchase went through quickly and flawlessly.

It's works flawlessly. I am lifetime Shimano guy. Just recently switched over to daiwa. I have been loving all my daiwa reels. On the this reel I landed a 4 ft saltwater alligator gar easy. Highly recommended and not overpriced, but built like 400 dollar shimano reel.

I bought two BG MG 18000 for a two week surf fishing trip in Mexico May 2022. Used them everyday with fresh water rinse nightly. Final cleaning after the trip and found both had corroded to the point where you can’t crank the reels. The chamber doesn’t have a strong seal and the results are I now have two paper weights. I brought my Shimano Saragosa on the same trip and that reel is just fine as if new. The BGs are less costly but require much more comprehensive maintenance than the Shimano reels.

Bought the Daiwa BG 5000 for saltwater fishing.Went to my local fishing pro shop to have line put on which cost me 48 bucks.Had the weekend off to go fishing.First day of use started catching gorilla bluesBy third fish the reel jammed up and that was the end of my day.Went back to my pro shop and was told the reel was defective.Ive sent it back for a return and spoke with customer service.I was assured that they would give me a refund.Week passed by so far and still waiting on my refund and credit for the line.
I just unboxed the Daiwa BG 8000; as I attempted to put the handle on and noticed there wasn’t the required O ring to seal the bearing. It’s the first time I have ordered a Daiwa, I have primarily purchased Shimano and Penn with good performance from their products. If this is the first example of their quality I am unimpressed.
I take all reviews with a pinch of salt bad or good but I have to agree with all the positive reviews of the Daiwa BG series.I purchased the BG4500 mainly for Bluefish and striper bass fishing for inshore off piers or bridges etc and this real is sold and aesthetic are gorgeous IMO. The BG4500 may be an overkill for what I am generally fishing for and thought I may have made the mistake of ordering and not going with the BG3500 but no way. We have some cow size stripers running down river this time of year and I like the extra insurance of lots of yard of heavy braid in my case Power Pro 50 with lots of yards on the spool still.Great real and I truly think you are getting a lot more reel for the money at least under the 200 hundred you are.I just have to get use to ... MoreI take all reviews with a pinch of salt bad or good but I have to agree with all the positive reviews of the Daiwa BG series.I purchased the BG4500 mainly for Bluefish and striper bass fishing for inshore off piers or bridges etc and this real is sold and aesthetic are gorgeous IMO. Happy fishing.
I’m a big fan of the Diawa BGs. I have four of them and they have given great service. I bought another Diawa spinner at twice the price and it failed in very short order. I’ve caught fish on my BG 3000’s that were definitely more fish than that size reel was made to handle and after several years of hard use they are still going strong.
Bought the 2500 about a year ago as a general purpose reel for freshwater that I could take to the coast as well. Chose it over similarly priced options from Penn, and several on the "freshwater" side of the counter. Have been impressed since day one. I've since added a pair of 2000's to my rod locker, with more coming in the future. I'm replacing pretty much all of my current spinning reels with BG's. Line lay is perfect with braid and fluoro, it handles both very well, the drag is butter smooth.Attached photo is a 23.5" largemouth taken with a 2000 size BG spooled with 6lb Sniper. Reel was flawless all the way through the fight, absorbing multiple strong runs smoothly, and gainin line with every turn of the handle. If you're looking for a reel in the $100 range, and aren't considering this one, you're making a bad mistake. Believe the hype, Daiwa has produced a real winner here.
I opted for the Daiwa BG reel to replace an older Quantum Energy PT30. i got the BG 2500 size. It is just a tad bit smaller than the Quantum but a heck of a lot lighter. I saw some reviews about the bail not being thick enough or doesn’t click loud. I’m not finding that at all. I kind of like the lighter size bail, however I am only throwing in freshwater river lakes and streams. The reel is super smooth with no wobble reeling. I am able to retrieve a lot faster than the old Quantum as well. Overall, I feel the the Daiwa is a slight step above the Quantum Energy. They are mostly the same with the exception on weight, retrieve, and body material. The reel hold the same type of line. 6,8,and 10 lb mono BUT you can put more line on the Daiwa reel than the Quantum. I like that the Daiwa doesn’t feel as “ beefy” as the Quantum for the same type of line on the spool. Dicks will throw out out a $20 off coupon for orders of $100 so I jumped on their deal along with their free shipping and I got the reel super fast fast in 2 days!! This is better than amazon if you don’t have Prime!!Dicks made it easy for me me to make up my mind on the Daiwa since I was going to get the Pflueger President in the same size, and low and behold that same day I get the $20 off coupon in the mail!! Thank you Dicks for your great timing and the great shipping service for free. I will definitely look into getting a new rod with them soon
I bought a 3000 over 3 years ago and shortly after that bought a 2500. I’ve caught everything under the sun on them from dinky croakers in the surf to 25” stripers with plenty of 20+ inch trout and upper slot redfish in between. The biggest thing I like about this reel is the durability. I’ve owned several shimanos in the same price range and none of them have lasted me as long as these bgs. The drag adjustment is up there with reels 200$ above its class. I’ve dunked it in saltwater on a few occasions and just made sure to take the spool off when rinsing it off and had no issues. All around great reel. 2500 pairs well with my fenwick hmg medium light and 3000 does great on my fenwick hmg medium. I’ve swapped with a friends Penn battle which fits in the same class ... MoreI bought a 3000 over 3 years ago and shortly after that bought a 2500.
