I purchased the red Gripper Bag, which is a two tone red due to slightly darker hue in the rip-stop fabric. The color matches my Spot Ryve hot tomato color reasonably. After applying clear protective tape, I attached it to the rear of the top tube and it stays firmly in place without flopping around. The bag is holding a 29'er tube, two tire levers and a multi-tool in the main pocket. There is a two-slot outside mesh pocket designed to hold two CO2 cartridges. Adding that to what I already have in the bag prevents the cover from closing/covering the internal content compartement. Dakine could improve the bag by opening up that outside mesh pocket by eliminating the stitching down the middle so that pocket could accommodate a multi-tool. This is better than a strap ... I loaded it up with a 29x2.4 tube, levers, CO2 and this got real big fast. I'm going to find a tube that should fit in a pinch but is smaller, and it should fit more compactly. Otherwise the concept is great---pared down essentials. The only problem is today's big tires call for big tubes.

Excellent quality bag, very high quality and strong Velcro strap, doesn't move from where you strap it. Eliminates me from having to carry a hip pack. I normally keep a spare pair of gloves in it on cold rides and a cliff bar or 2.Shipping was super fast.

I own two Dakine hydration packs and a waist pack, so I've had experience with Dakine products, and it's usually overwhelmingly positive. Unfortunately, not so much this time. The idea here is sound: Protect your tube while it's strapped to your frame. Tubes are prone to damage, so the last thing you want is to need it, only to find it also has a hole in it (in addition to your tire that it's meant to repair). The problem is, it seems to only be designed for strapping to downtubes or larger than average top tubes. Where the strap and buckle come together, there's not enough length to really come super tight on my top tube (Transition Patrol), which meant I had to additionally strap the bag with electrical tape to keep it in place.Secondly, the rubber grip surface ... The grip surface on my bag currently feels smooth and no longer grips as a result of this wear.I've used the bag for a total of a month, and it's now sitting in my spare parts drawer - sad, dirty, and unused. I've gone back to strapping my tube to the bike the old fashioned, more damage prone way. :(
Every time I ride before getting this gripper I'd always forgot to pick up my tubeless repair kit and put in my pack. Not any longer as it's always strapped to the bike. Now I can ride without fear that I'd forgotten something important. I can recommend this product and higher. I'd rate it 5/5 ⭐️
I purchased this cool looking product for our son who is getting more and more into riding. He prefers a more efficient storage pack with a slim form factor. Like the Gripper Bag.He rode with it for the second time yesterday mounted under his seat. When he hit the dropper and then a bump, the tire gripped the bag and ripped it right from under the seat. It ended getting strung out and wedged between his tire and frame all the way down to the bottom bracket. This stopped him short and created a hassle to get loose. We ended up putting it in a jersey pocket for the rest of the ride. Not ideal for sure. The upside is the secure velcro strap held on pretty well and did not rip. It ended up not being quite as versatile as intended.
Challenge to Dakine staff:Next product and marketing meeting set up 3-4 bikes. Give each person one of these bags to install on the bike seat.Pay attention to the picture with your tire lever on the sides. Any decent gravel ride knocks your lever to the roadside. Was this product actually road-tested prior?
This little bag is pretty cool and holds everything I want it to hold. However, the downside to this thing is when it's attached to your frame it ends up deteriorating the paint on the bike. The part of this bag that faces inward is made of a rough material instead of a sticky rubber compound. Because of this, it not only moves around, it also slowly eats the paint on your frame away. Very poor design. I would not recommend this bag to anyone.
4.5 STARSI have one of these on my trail bike this whole past season and even put it on my DH for a day or 2 at a bike park. Stayed on without issue. I keep my tube (main compartment), 2 CO2s and inflator valve (pockets at the front), and 2 tire levers (on the side) in it. Never had an issue with loosing any (make sure that the curved parts of the lever are down and curved into the pouch and really yank it tight.)Works better than electrical tape and protects the tubes so you don't end up having a hole in the tube when you need it.Over time, dirt has worked it way between it and the bike frame and has caused some rubbing. If this is a concern for you, put frame protector on the bike where you will be placing this.It looses a half star as getting it on the bike ... A redesign with the loop being directly attached to the pouch, rather than on a strap extension, I think would fix this issue.
...it really needs a strap for the bottom to keep it from spinning sideways. I have 2 bottle cages in my triangle so the best spot for it is under the seat facing forwards. If you cinch the strap hard, it stays put for a bit. But after a bit of riding or a hard landing it can spin and you hear your rear tire eating into it.As far as the ability to hold recovery gear, its great. Holds a tube, 2 CO2 cartridges, a M20 tool and a couple tire levers with no issue. But it NEEDS that bottom strap to be 5 stars!
