This is the 2nd one I have bought. I have bought out of season for the really good deal. I have not doubts it will serve as well as the first one. This one is for another family member.I really appreciate the reliability of Snowys services. A major crush I'm sure at Christmas time but they still deliver the goods. Ask a question and the answers are always respectful and helpful.Happy New Year Snowys

A well-made sleeping bag and very roomy, which is why I bought the Darche 1100, but definitely not -12c, which is a bit of a disappointment. Obviously, a lot depends on whether or not you wear sleepwear, and where you are sleeping; vehicle, tent, swag. In long thermals, thick socks and a beanie you'd probably be OK below freezing, but in t-shirt, shorts, thick socks and a sheet liner, on an Oztrail self-inflating mattress (red), I woke up cold in the middle of the night in a tent when it was 5c (note: 5c, not -5c). I had to put on a beanie, and cover the bag with a single duck down and feather quilt to be warm. The panel at the foot of the bag, on top, feels like three layers of hollow fibre, the rest of the bag has only two layers. I have a mummy bag that is all as thick as the one panel on the Darche, but even that would struggle to achieve -12c. Really, the whole bag should be three layers of hollow fibre, which would add about 800g to the weight, but that should not be an issue as it's not a sleeping bag for backpacking. As I don't like sleepwear, it looks like I'll be packing the duck down quilt as well, for those really cold nights.

Bought this to go to the Flinders Ranges. Stopped at Hattah-Kulkyne where it got down to zero - nearly froze. Similar at Flinders. This is DEFINITELY NOT a -12 bag. It is not a zero bag. This should be rated no colder than about +2. I donāt feel the cold much. I live in souther Victoria and get by in a T shirt most of winter but I felt the cold in this bag. If you need one for inside it is soft n comfortable but if youāre in a tent with cold nights then donāt get this
I bought this bag understanding that itās more of a -5 rating. First camp at Mt Crawford with a temperature of +3 while wearing all my Kathmandu thermals, beanie & socks then a pair of trackies with another top over them & I froze!! I am also using a Black wolf 10cm self inflating mat which has a good thermal rating. People at snowys are great but this bag is over rated. Iām thinking a more accurate rating would be +3.
Have purchased two of these to share with a cold blooded wife. Have been out twice in it one night 0 degrees and the other -3. In a roof top tent with an Exped megamat insulated mattress. The temperature rating is overly ambitious as both nights had on woollen socks, beanie, thermal top/pants and was still very cold. I am normally a warm sleeper. Suggest that it might just keep you alive at -12 but anything below zero, make sure you are well rugged up.
The bag is well-presented, made of good quality products, but simply not warm enough. It has double-dacron filler when it should be triple. This is especially so given its size (it takes more heat to warm up a larger bag). This could be the very best bag in the entire world were it to have triple layered dacron rather than just double layered. We would all be prepared to pay the extra money. We don't want to have to take a blanket along with us to pull over the bag when camping: the bag should be enough on its own. Even at home at +10 degrees I have to pull a doona over the top of the bag in my bedroom, so it is definitely not a -5 degree bag. I don't think Darche really understands just how much heat has to be generated for one to drop off to sleep comfortably.
I've got a few sleeping bags (quality name brands) to cover all seasons, some specific for hiking, others ok for off-road camping. This has to be the best Winter sleeping bag for using in a Swag or RTT/Tent. It is a little too bulky/heavy for backpack hiking, but for in the Swag, on a stretcher in a Tent or in a RTT, I don't think this can be beaten. I'm 6.0' heavy built and the 900 size is just right for me, not too much spare air space to have to see warm, but still roomy enough to be comfortable. (for hiking it would be a mummy shape bag and fairly close fitting but is because you have to consider weight/size). This is just the 'beezneeze) for car/4wd camping. The zips on each side give you so much option, and it is quality made. It may seem a bit pricey, but buy once, and you won't need another one for a long time i would think.
Hi all, I left a fairly recent glowing review. The bags performance is still great, however I would like to bring to the attention of buyers a minor issue I found when zipping my new bag to my existing exact same bag which I have had for about 12 months. The new bag is a good 50 to 60 mm shorter. This is evident in the zips and the gold pattern being misaligned. Not a big issue, we have zipped 2 top panels together to use as a doona and it just looks a bit odd. I have emailed Darche to make sure I didn't get a dud bag, they have informed me that, the way the bags are made they cannot guarantee that they are all the same dimensions. I suggested that they let people know this as I'm sure many of these bags are zipped together. As I said not a big issue, however we ...Ā MoreHi all, I left a fairly recent glowing review. For the most part I have either unzipped as I get a bit too warm and I have used it as a doona in house. We do get pretty cold weather where I am, into the minuses. I would wear track gear or PJ's anyway out of habit for nature calls in the middle of the night and so I dont have to dress first thing in the morning, just throw on another layer until the day warms up. I have not been cold yet, I find it really toasty and a joy to get into and I really like the extra room to move. I have with the 114cm.I am back to buy another for my 10 year old granddaughter who is begging for a winter camping trip. She has a 3 season black wolf bag at the moment, which has served her well too by the way but she has not winter camped yet.
