These socks are constructed well and hold up to time and wear. For that reason, I buy these socks, however, they stopped making this sock in plain black for women. I wish they still did or offered one or two options for women that weren't bright colors. I've told Darn Tough this via email and the response is to shop the tactical selection or mens. Unfortunately, the tactical line is unisex and doesn't offer many XS options that are as good as this sock and men's don't come in a size small enough for my feet. I wish they would offer one plain color for women with small feet because I would buy them more often. If you're in the same position, check out Feetures socks. They have well made plain sock colors.

Absolutely the best socks! These are comfy, cozy and super durable. I have bunions that put pressure on a small spot on both my feet. Eventually, with a ton of use, mine wore thin, in that area. I saved up six pair that were getting too worn to wear, anymore. It was a pretty straightforward process to fill out the warranty info and send them back for a full replacement. I paid for mailing them to Darn Tough and they shipped me six brand new pair of socks. Their speedy service, actually, surprised me. These socks are expensive, but they really are an investment in my feet. I am a non-stop kind of person and wear these, most days, three seasons out of the year. I am new to merino will socks, but after wearing out cotton socks in mere weeks, buy big pack after pack of cheap socks just to have to replace them so soon I knew I needed to do something different. So after some google searching Darn Tough socks seems like the best, most durable option. I ordered too small a size to start, but customer service was quick and awesome about sending exchanging for a larger size. They feel great! Just enough cushion to keep my feet comfortable during a full day of work on my feet (I’m a nurse). And I wear them for 2 or 3 days to work and the gym and they still hold their shape and there is no smell!! The height of the micro crew is just right and the tops fits snug enough to not slide down during the day, but not too tight that it digs ... MoreI am new to merino will socks, but after wearing out cotton socks in mere weeks, buy big pack after pack of cheap socks just to have to replace them so soon I knew I needed to do something different. I haven’t had a chance to hike in them, but after a few weeks of regular wear I can honestly say I am so happy for these socks and I can’t wait to build my collection! I love the various color and pattern options. And they are made right here in Vermont!

5 years ago I switched to merino wool socks for hiking and my work in environmental cleanup. I purchased two brands, one being Darn Tough. I've yet to replace the Darn tough, but I'm on the third replacement of the other popular brand. They are already showing wear, holes and shrinkage. The Darn Tough continue to retain their shape, texture and have no visible wear. I find myself choosing my Darn Tough socks everytime I go to my sock drawer. Yes, they are expensive, but they last. Less waste in material, resources and energy. I'm replacing the inferior socks with these because they are made in the U.S. and not another disposable piece of clothing. Darn Tough will be my only sock, even if it's another 5 years before my next purchase.
Call them hiking socks if you want, but these are my everything socks. This style is comfortable and warm in the winter, but they also kept me dry and clean doing dirty field work in the summer. My bears are new (and so cute how they peek out over my boots) so it was cousins of theirs I the "hiking" category that worked with me through the dog days before, but I expect nothing less from these. I find that the "work socks" are probay for people whose work was less dirty and sweaty than mine had been. Lightweight hiking socks have been my go to work socks, sports socks, gardening socks, and better-than-slippers lounging socks for years. I have hiked in them too, and they're great for that.I got my first pair of DT socks almost a decade ago as a gift, and now I've got ... MoreCall them hiking socks if you want, but these are my everything socks. So my trusty black Gold Toe crew socks were YEEEEARS old and definitely showing their age. I knew I neededreplacements, and the price was right...but I didn't feel good spending money on socks made in another country.I initially balked at the price of these made in the USA socks...but my hubby had already gone ahead and purchased some Darn Toughs for himself instead of getting new Gold Toes. I noticed having his socks be a different design from my own was making sock folding on laundry day go by MUCH faster (versus trying to separate his size from mine in sea of same-brand black socks). And he kept crowing about the quality and coziness of his Darn Toughs. After some browsing, I found these BEAUTIFUL Darn Tough indigo socks with orange toes and they really tickled ... MoreSo my trusty black Gold Toe crew socks were YEEEEARS old and definitely showing their age. The indigo is dark enough to go with everything (something I was afraid of switching out from black), but the pops of fuchsia and orange toes make me extra happy! Now I can't imagine wearing any other socks, they're so cozy and sturdy and soft! And now that our socks are black (his) and purple with orange toes (mine), I save SO much time on laundry day! Don't think I'll buy any other socks. This time around, I replaced my crew socks for winter, but next time, I'm going to replace my ankle socks for summer with more DARN TOUGH SOCKS! Love these! I'm so happy they're made in the USA, the quality and beautiful design to me mean they're worth the extra price!!!
These socks are definatly better than most, but unfortunately I'm just not very impressed with them. The treeline pattern looks pretty nice though.I've bought darn tough socks before and absolutely loved them. I don't know if something changed in the last few years or what. The ones I got a few years ago are actually a bit big for my feet, but these ones seem too short (and maybe slightly narrow for my very wide feet). That might be why they don't seem quite as comfortable or cushy to me. They also don't seem to prevent as much smell (still more than my other socks though. It could be just me...I don't know. Overall they are solid, but not as great as they have been in the past for me.
I realize that if you live in the northeast, you might think that California and winter don't really belong in the same sentence. Wrong! Today is rainy and chilly in Pasadena and these socks are keeping my feet warm when I'm working on my computer or walking the dog. I gave some socks to my son and daugher in law for Christmas this year. They have a place in the Sierra Nevada mountains near Yosemite National Park where they get lots of snow in the winter. Perfect to wear when taking the boys sledding! I find that although I have other socks, I'm always digging through the drawer to find a pair of Darn Tough ones! They are so bright and whimsical.
I am very picky about my feet. Bought these for hiking in Alaska and I now want to convert all my old cotton socks to these! I also bought the Smart Wool socks which are great, but these cute bears and the fit of these is like a big hug for my feet! I wear a size 9w so I bought the medium, and they fit perfectly. My worry for wool was that they would be itchy, and that’s def not even the case at all! Oh….and I have stinky feet after hiking and these did NOT do that. I actually wore them a couple days without washing (no laundry on our trip) and they did not stink…at all. I didn’t believe the sales lady at REI when she told me that these could be worn a couple times without stinking. I have never done that with any another sock, ever, but she was right! Darn Tough are some of the best socks I’ve ever had. I believe you use quality materials–just wish the fit was better for me.For my size, W (L) they can still be too tight on the front of the ankle right at the bend into my foot. And they never seem to be quite long enough– the heel doesn’t go far enough up to my actual heel, so I wear out above the heel area quickly. As a note, I wash the your socks correctly and only air dry, and comfortably wear Keen shoes/boots, Sorel's and Hoka’s all in size 11, so it seems like W (L) Darn Toughs should fit well too. I’ve been wearing Lorpen’s socks in W(L) for years without the above issues (perhaps it’s the EU sizing or fabric?) I've tried your Men’s sock in M and they work but are too wide.
