I previously owned a mandoline which was the kind where you used the holder to slide the food item you were slicing, and you'd slide the food back and forth over the blade. I loved being able to slice perfectly even slices so quickly. But I only ever did one thing with it, slices, because you had to change blades, and it was just too complicated. It worked for what I needed to do. But last fall, I was going too fast and not using the guard, and I sliced off part of my little finger. I used it a couple of times after that, but then I saw this Dash Safe Slice Mandoline, and I had to have it. It's truly awesome! My fingers don't get near the blades, and I can change the way I cut my food with a turn of the dial and/or rotating the knobs. It has a bit of a learning curve on how to get the food cut the way you want it, but it can slice, julienne, dice, etc., and it's one of the biggest helps in the kitchen I have ever had. I love mine, and I highly recommend it!

I bought this mainly to make thin french fries. It's super simple to setup and use. The only downside is cleaning it. The included brush is helpful but it's still difficult to get out all the little pieces of potato. I don't blame the product for this though, it's just the nature of all slicers. All in all great buy.

Just used it for the first time to slice cucumbers and onions. Awesome product! So many settings and options for types. I already had the same Pampered Chef product but although the Dash is the same premise and parts it seemed to be easier to assemble and use. This will be my go to for slicing. I’ll give the other to someone else.

My 8 year old likes to cook. He wanted to do potato chips and fries in his new deep fryer. A family member let us borrow a more traditional mandoline slicer but we had to wear a glove (I learned the hard way first pass after being warmed) but it was hard for him. Found this on Amazon and looked good. Overall it is awesome. SOOO MUCH SAFER! My son definitely enjoys using this one way more than the other and that’s what is important. Whatever we can do to promote him being in kitchen and doing what he enjoys. The only minor negative is that if have a big fat potatoe, you have to cut it so it will fit into the “chute”. Not a big deal. Does not impact food quality. I was expecting it but sometimes you can’t really tell from pics. And it needs to be a big potatoe which ... MoreMy 8 year old likes to cook. Most don’t require any pre cutting.
The slice size settings numbers 0-9 are white on white, a slightly raised digit. You cannot read without perfect lighting and just the right angle on the light source. A major failing. At least they are consistent. The directions (turn left/right) atop the knob to push the vegetable through the slicer are the same white on white lettering/arrows. I carefully highlighted my numbers using a black ultra-fine permanent marker. Interesting to see how long that lasts. So be warned. Haven;t tried slicing yet.
The chute is too small. You have to slice and then dice. Making it a two step operation. Also, you can't slice lengthwise. To get decent length fries you have to use smal to medium suze potatoes. Actually you gave to use small to medium-small fruits and vegetables. Operates smoothly and, well, it is new so it slices very well. I can live with the few cons. Let's just see how long the blades last. If I get 2 years I will be satisfied. Still, I feel it is overpriced. But, still a good purchase.
This is the best slicer I've ever owned. The blade is positioned where the user can't cut themself either during use or while cleaning. Veggies are stationary while the blade moves past the food. It's easy to press and stays stable on the countertop, sturdy construction. Love the container underneath to catch the slices, and the fact that it locks in place. The one thing that could use a design change is that some of the chopped food flies out at the top as the blade retracts, but a light touch on the plunger and letting it retract gently helps. With other slicers, the blade is exposed during use and cleaning. Even with a safety guard, traditional designs are not safe. I'd buy it again for others.
I have only used the slicer once so far, but it worked great! I made french fries for my family. I always bake fries, so I was concerned the fries would be hard and not bake well. No problem at all. (I used a convection oven at 450 F. Clean up was fine. Just don't let the device sit and dry, rinse off ASAP.)I'm excited to try slicing more things! 2 thumbs up.
I am retired and prepare or cook at least one vegetable a day. I own the GZ version of this mandolin and I noticed that a long rectangular keeper was just made available which I plan to buy soon. For thin slicing and julienne cuts nothing is better than this machine, I do advise rinsing right away especially for potatoes.DASH-please make an insert part for the food shute that will hold one carrot or celery. And consider making a guillotine shredder version of this with metal blades that could possibly be changed between fine, medium, course shreds-sorry but the julienne part of the current model is not the same as a shredder. It would need a longer food shute and food pusher without a lip but some anti slip prongs. I would be the first one in line to buy ... MoreI am retired and prepare or cook at least one vegetable a day. Recommended with Reservations. This is a nice, functional and useful "Home Kitchen" Mandoline. "Safe Use" is "designed into the unit". As with Razor-Sharp Cutlery, "Safe Use" depends on 1) the Operator, 2) Proper Set-Up & Attachment Selection and 3) Food Type. Used properly, this can be Safely used. (It is SAFER than a Commercial Kitchen Mandoline, but not as capable.) Blades are razor-sharp, a very necessary feature. It is easy to clean and store, requiring minimal space. Be careful to Keep Away From Children.
