We were able to plug and play the crossover into our system perfectly. So far all is working as intended and gave us full range back to our gym PA system.

I've always trusted DBX products and they have never let ME down. There are devices that do more, maybe better, but they also cost a lot more. DBX products do what they are supposed to do!

Wanted a crossover to relieve my main speakers (low cut/high pass) at 80hz with a 24db per octave roll off. The Harrison lab FMOD does 70hz with only a 12db roll off. (Not even half of what's needed) To do it correctly the DBX 223s was the least expensive and got the job done properly. The result is more relaxed mid range and better resolution/improved imaging and all the heavy lifting is done by the subwoofers. Do the crossover right or don't even bother... imo.

This is a great crossover for the money. The owner's manual lacks in description and instruction. But, If you do live sound and DJ work, you should know how to set it up. I admit, the low frequency sum button is somewhat confusing. I think this would be a wise choice for the beginning or experienced sound engineer. Yes. For the money. Buy this one.
I use this crossover as part of a bass rack. It has features that are tough to find elsewhere at this price point. One is a very effective 40 Hz subsonic filter that prevents cone flap at high volumes. Another is a wide range of selectable crossover frequencies. The unit is dead quiet, and this is the unbalanced (phone plug) version. I really don't know how dbx crams so many features into a crossover at this price point, but I'm not complaining! The unit has a feel of quality to it -- both controls and metal fab. Seems likely to survive road work. I did not check professional recording in the best uses section because I own the single-ended version. But if the balanced (XLR) version performs as well as this one -- and I see no reason it shouldn't -- then I wouldn't ... MoreI use this crossover as part of a bass rack. I bought this unit brand new and have owned for two and a half years. in that two and a half years I have used it approximately 15 times and always kept in a rack. One evening at a gig it started getting a noise from the low output. I exchanged it with a friends crossover and that fixed the problem for the next couple of gigs. I contacted DBX and had to send it back to be repaired at a cost of one hundred twenty Plus shipping For a one hundred eighty unit. They sent it back and I have not tried it out since sending the unit back so not really sure if they fixed the problem. If you need a crossover don't waste your time with this unit. I expected much more quality from DBX/Harman.
Overall:Very simple and straighforward operation. DBX quality with a solid warranty behind it,the 223XS does the job well while also being quiet. This replaced a Behnringer 2496LE that died during a gig,six months after purchase. We loved the extra options within the 2496LE(limiters,EQ,presets,etc) but it proved to unreliable. So,back to Old Reliable, a DBX crossover like we had back in the day, this time a 223XS. No extras included, only what you need. No surprises just solid performance. We use it with two DJ rigs;one is stereo 12" tops with 15" sub, other is stereo 15" tops w 18" sub. While they require slightly different settings, it easy to keep track or adjust on the fly to get the desired sound quickly. All good, dig DBX reliability.
These days, amps are not expensive. Good crossover capacitors and coils can easily cost $50 each. Go with separate amps for the tweeters, midranges, and woofers. You can play with the crossover points and match levels easily. Why should you waste amplifier power heating resistors in a crossover network. Directly coupling amps to speakers will improve performance. Mount the amps near the speakers and the short wires will minimize expense and not be a factor in sound quality. Any decent 14 gauge or bigger will do just fine. I will never build a conventional crossover again!
This unit can improve the sound and punch on even a very expensive speaker/mixing setup. I use it as a crossover between my KS Audio tops and Sub. Even though the sub and tops come with excellent internal crossovers, using the dbx unit instead added to the already high-fi and punchy sound! A nice surprise!
This is a well-built and reliable crossover. I've used many DBX products over the years and that can be said of all of their products. It performs very well and is very clean; introducing no discernable noise in a live situation. The one thing that I don't understand is why DBX offers different versions for XLR and TRS. It puzzles me because connectors are inexpensive as are SMT resistors, caps, etc. and they could have had both on the same main board. This would have offered the user the options of XLR or TRS inputs and XLR or TRS outputs. It would have cost them about $1.50 difference in componentry to have one board that offers both. This is puzzling to me. I think some competitors offer one products with both connector types. Other than that, I love it.
