DDPAI Mini Car Dash Camera

Purchased for my wife's car. After testing that it worked well after installing the DDPai app on her iPhone, the next day the car had a drained battery. It seems that the default mode is to surveil while parked with the engine off, which on her car at least resulted in a continued power drain on the supplied cigarette lighter adaptor. After getting AA service we checked the settings and turned off the park mode surveillance (selecting 'sleep' while parked in the app).While the product works well, I feel that there should be clearer warnings about battery drainage if not actual voltage monitoring in the unit to prevent it occurring.

A dash mat would improve this.Tip:In the event of a road incident, tap the side of the camera lightly and it will make a camera shutter sound and saves the last 30 seconds (max time in settings). This sets off the G-Sensor (I set this to high sensitivity and it didn't activate when going over rougher roads).

I now have 2 of these, each time bought on sale.Downside are it's not removable, no mount. It's stuck permanently using adsive pad.There no button or function to record but I found tapping it records an event clip.By default it starts up saying hello ding ding pie (what??) but thankfully you can turn that off and adjust the volume.Comes with a small sleek 2A charger that's quite discreet.The supplied spudger tool works surprisingly well for completely hiding the cable without damaging car trim.WiFi connection works fairly well and allows live view which is handy to position the unit as high up as possible within the swept area of the wipers.

I ended up buying two of these for the kids and paired them with 32GB Kingston SD cards. Both cameras were relatively easy to install in-car (although in both cases the cable ended up being tight and probably could have done with being an extra 50cm long). The actual configuration of the cameras was also straight forward and I had no problems getting both an android and apple phone connected. The live preview works really well and is useful when setting up the cam, and I had no problems downloading footage to the phones. The cameras attach with an included 3M self adhesive patch which seems to provide a fairly solid connection to the windscreen. All in all a pretty good experience so far (only a day in since install) - although as with most things, time will tell.

I've already posted a review as a 'guest' but now I'm a verified purchaser, my opinion might carry more weight. It replaces a Transcend DrivePro100. It's a hell of a lot better. The ability to connect to it on Wi-Fi and download directly is great. If one looks at the web, you'll see that DDPai Mini is available with different options in different countries, so be careful there. (eg some countries include a remote button)Image quality is great (better than the Transcend) and the wide angle lens is much better than the 10 degree difference on paper, would imply. 140 degrees on the DDPai and 130 on the Transcend.Very slim and good looking (unlike myself!) Looks a lot like a Blackvue.It comes with 3M VHB tape so I can't move it between cars, is the only negative. If you've more to spend, then the higher end models (eg DDPai Mini 5) have higher resolution that might allow for better number plate reading in difficult situations

This camera is very easy to install and set up. I used a 64Gb micro sd card but trying to format it in the dash camera failed every time. I eventually formatted it in my PC to exFAT and it worked perfectly. When downloading the images to your phone it is better to turn off your phones bluetooth as this interferes with the download speeds. The best way to down load images is to take the sd card out of the camera and plug it in to your PC. It is much much quicker. The quality of the images are excellent. Picked it up on special so the price was good. Had it installed with the cable concealed and running on the app in less than 30 minutes.Picture quality is fine, as expected for this price level. And with sensitivity set to medium it's not going nuts on auto impact recording.Quite happy

What would you expect for $45? More than this.

Not worth the $45 dollars. Cute voice feature is only because there is no screen to use this and the $18 model is worthless crap. Save your money and buy a name brand. Apeman is 100% better or more. The 70mai Smart Dash Cam 1S shipped with a COMPLETELY DEAD NON RECHARGABLE BATTERY AND IS DEAD INSTANTLY IF UNPLUGGED!! It is not a replaceable battery either!
