Dead Island Riptide (Xbox 360)

(281 reviews)

The survivors of Banoi thought they had escaped the terrors of the tropical island and survived the apocalypse on a corrupted paradise. Then their fate took a turn for the worse. Suddenly they find themselves struggling for their lives again with all hope drowning in the rising waves. With invigorating new elements infused into a proven mix, Dead Island Riptide reanimates the zombie terror for a second battle for life against the dead. A monsoon has hit the once beautiful archipelago and heavy rainstorms have laid waste to large areas of the islands. The city of Henderson and jungle areas on the island of Palanai were flooded leaving boats as the only remaining way of transportation.

A must for zombie lovers.

Dead Island: Riptide (Pre-order DLC: The Survivor Pack) is an excellent game. The level-based development and large variety of upgradeable weapons are a big plus, successfully making the game seem unique like the first one. This, along with a few new, cool, internal additions like the downward kick and running attacks with Sam B give it just enough to be a slight step forward from the original. Without it being a full sequel, we couldn't expect too much as the first one was a classic. The slight lag in graphics and similarity in missions make it a little tedious at points, but the improved scenery, atmosphere and growing variety in enemies often make up for this, immersing you in the environment and mind setting. It's a definite must for any zombie lover!

If you have played the first Dead Island, don't buy riptide. It was boring and a waste of time, felt like I been there and done that.

Dead Island: Riptide

Dead Island: Riptide reminds me of Dead Island 1, hardly any changes have been made. If you liked Dead Island 1 you'll like dead island 2, it just feels likes Dead Island 1.1. It doesn't feel like a game, it feels like a update. The game play is good, the story line is the same. The best bit is the beginning when you're on the ship but it was all downhill from there.

Heaps of fun

If you like a good zombie game this is one of the better ones I've played. There are heaps of skills and weapons to master to help you get through some really challenging levels and there is also some really cool multiplayer options to use with your friends. I had a lot of fun exploring this crazy island and there was so much to do and see.

More of the same.

Pretty much the same as the first Dead Island. The only differences being one new playable character, and the difficulty has been greatly reduced. It's now very doable all the way through with one player. What I like about these games, beside the undead of course, are the huge open areas to explore, and the fact that exploration is rewarded with hidden goodies, quests and survivors to rescue, the survival element of having to scrounge for food and items to sell for medkits or upgrade weapons, and the ever present threat of the horde. Those things are still there. But what I didn't like about the original is also still there. The fact that pickups, containers and ammo quickly and constantly respawn. This for me detracts from the survival element and immersion (who keeps going around filling all these bags every five minutes anyway-), and even when set to single player you respawn when you die (with a cash penalty) instead of having to reload a checkpoint. But at least your health doesn't auto regenerate. So if you liked the first one you will like this. If you didn't like the first one this game won't impress you either as it's more of the same.

If you liked the original Dead Island, I don't see why you wouldn't enjoy this "more of the same" -kind of game. Dead Island: Riptide more or less has the same flaws and things that made it fun to play. Sure, there's a new character to play with, some new skills and stuff, but the basics remain the same. Overall it greatly depends on how you liked Dead Island in the first place, and even if you're looking to try out the Dead Island -games, I'd still start with the original one for story continuation (you rarely want to start 2/3 through the story) and cheaper price. So a good buy if you liked Dead Island, but if you didn't, there's nothing here to draw you in anymore than the original did.

To build on the first game

From what we have seen it looks and plays like the first game. I'm thinking it will go along the lines like Borderlands..... The sequel will be better than the first :)

great fun

great game, one the first open world games i played and was skeptical of how much i would enjoy it. great fun tho, heaps of side story quests to discover and great fun to create new savage weapons to f*** up the zombies that are just everywhere. my favourite was the poisoned katana. one hit and the zombies were either sliced in two or vomiting from the poison. main story line was ok but i got more enjoyment out of searching for parts to make weapons and finding blueprints and exploring dead zones. good mindless zombie killing action
