(Matrexx 30) Decent budget mATX case choice

The Matrexx 30 is a reasonable choice for a budget micro ATX case. It doesn't get anything wildly wrong, and gets a few things right, most notably PSU placement (bottom, where it belongs) and appearance. If I were to put the Matrexx 30 up against the similarly priced DIYPC F2, I'd pick the F2 for functionality (better airflow and fans), and the Matrexx 30 for appearance. Neither one is a joy to build in, thanks to tight cabling quarters; I'd give the Matrexx a slight edge. The lack of a manual is a bit disappointing; most of the build is obvious, but there are a few mystery screws left in the hardware bag and I've no idea what they might be meant for.

It is a working fan and does not need to be fancy. Where the wiring comes out makes it interesting to fit. For some computer cases this fan's wiring is not the best, against the case it can be difficult to run as it can be squashed. Does not line up to the case cable outlets. Had to fit one 4 times to get it right. In most cases (almost a pun), you can work around this. A reasonably priced fan set up, comes with screws with no thread built into the fan surround and so first installation is critical. With other fans of this type, I have used stainless steel bolts washers and nylock nuts. All up I would reccomend this product, you can't have too much air cooling and I run 4 of these in my main machine.

Bought this case for a super-budget Windows 11 PC with AMD 3000G, A320, 8GB RAM, & 256GB M.2. I chose this case because it has a 5.25" bay, 3.5" bays, 2.5" mounting points, and the PSU can be fitted either way up! The latter point is very important if a PC is going to live on the floor. This means that an up-side-down PSU will draw air out from the case instead of from beneath the PC.The case looks fairly good and has an attractive tempered glass side panel at a very low price point. Space within the case is sufficient to build and nothing really gets in the way. Airflow for low power builds is sufficient and can be set up as flow through. There were no noticeable sharp edges. A bane of many cheap PC cases as I well know from many cuts over the years. The ... MoreBought this case for a super-budget Windows 11 PC with AMD 3000G, A320, 8GB RAM, & 256GB M.2. Space within the case is sufficient to build and nothing really gets in the way. Airflow for low power builds is sufficient and can be set up as flow through. There were no noticeable sharp edges. A bane of many cheap PC cases as I well know from many cuts over the years. The fittings for the glass panel were rubberised on the back and front to reduce chances of damage. The external fittings are also thumb only (no screw heads) so it is harder to over torque them and smash the glass. There are a lot of limitations with it being a budget case. It only has two places where fans could be fitted both for 120mm fans. One can be fitted on the front and one on the rear (as factory fitted). Removing the front panel to fit the fan can feel a but worrisome as you have to pull the bottom of the case fairly hard to remove it. It comes with all the necessary screws for anything needed, including the extra long screws for fitting a front fan.The hard drive bays have no vibration dampening. Whether this is really needed or not I don't know but I always prefer to be safe rather than sorry. The 2.5" bay on the top of the HDD cage needed to be bent a little to fit a 2.5" drive as it was set up too narrow by a few mm from the factory. The hard disk cage is rivetted in place and cannot be removed without damaging the case. Not a problem for me but it may be a consideration for others.Overall though I am very pleased as it is fit for purpose, nothing fancy, which is exactly what I wanted.

Great Case!

Updated review: This is a great case for the money hence the 5 stars in this review. I had it for about a month now and I am very pleased. I was surprised that it fits my 1000w power supply and my big 3 fan PNY GTX 1070 video card (also fits MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X graphics card with ease), I did have to bent the little slot that's intended for SSD in order for the graphics card to fit, but there are plenty of other slots to mount it. Someone complained that the cables are too short, but I have not had that experience. My only gripe is that you have to take out PSU and front fan in order to move or take out your hard drive or SSD. So if you assembling your computer with this case for the first time make sure you put your hard drives first before you mount the power supply or front fans. Another point to remember is that the case only houses 120mm fans, so if you're using a water CPU cooler that has a larger than 120mm mounting diameter then it won't fit. I bought it without additional fans and had to buy 2 more 120mm fans, so it may be a better deal to get the package where you get all the fans with it.

Great Case, but No Instructions
29 January 2021

I read a review for this saying it was difficult putting it together without instructions, and I thought "how hard could it be?" Well, it was difficult, but not impossible. I wouldn't recommend this as your first case, but if you've put together a computer before, you should be able to figure it out. All the cables were labeled, which made installing the motherboard okay. However, there are a ton of unlabeled screws, and you kinda have to just try different screws in different areas until something works. Also, count the screws first. For example, there is a set of 6 screws for installing HDDs, which will give you a clue. Also, the HDDs go in backward, which took me a little time to figure out. However, it's a nice case, and once it's put together, it works great.

Layout is appalling, GPU blows heat onto PSU,
1 February 2023

Avoid unless you do not want to use a GPU. The case DOES NOT line up with GPU output ports. You will have to compromise by putting GPU and Motherboard under tension to connect HDMI etc.My GPU fan output also destroyed my power supply as it was blowing heat directly onto it. My mistake as I am inexperienced building PC but it also highlights a poorly designed case layout.Long story short after using this case I have had to abandon it and buy a new power supply and a better designed case at the same price with PSU and GPU at separate ends of the case and the presence of a 12mm fan/vent above GPU for heat exhaust dissipation.

Nice looking, sturdy little case.

Overall, I do like this case, but installation was a little frustrating without a manual. I wasn't sure what screws to use for hard drives and with 3 drives, I needed to use additional screws (which I happened to have). I spent too long trying to figure out how to mount the front fan before realizing that's what the long screws are for. Also, I don't know what the small, silver screws are for. The USB 3 cable has a USB 2 connector hanging off of it. This is not for the USB 2 port on the case, that's its own cable. This is presumably in case you don't have a USB 3 header on your board, so you can use the USB 3 port as a USB 2 one. There is not much room for cable management in the back. Very nice budget case!
29 January 2020

For the price I paid, this case is very nice. It has a USB 2.0 and 3.0 port, as well as a headphone jack, microphone jack, power button, and reset button. The power button lights up white when the PC is on. The reset switch is supposed to light up red... but for me it would only flicker and wouldnt work... so that was a little bit of a waste. Theres not much room for cable management, so if youre a beginner it can be tricky. Putting an LED fan at the front looks really cool. Thermals are okay. The pre-installed back fan isnt PWM, but isnt that loud. It does move a good amount of air. Other than that, this case looks and performs good for a budget case. 9/10 would buy again.

So much so that I 100% believe this would be a far better case if they ditched the tempered glass panel for just some plain sheetmetal. Out of sight, out of mind. I don't even have any 2.5" or optical drives, the fact I chose a M.2 drive was an unintended moment of brilliance for your's truly because this would have made this SO MUCH WORSE.Otherwise, it does the job. Just keep it under your desk because you sure won't like looking at it
