This monitor is unequivocally my favourite monitor that I have ever owned. Colors are vibrant and fantastic, HDR 1000 peak brightness mode makes light emitting elements shine brilliantly, and the refresh rate is right in that sweet spot where I can still achieve it with ultra settings enabled. You'll have to use the OSD on the monitor to switch between HDR 400 True Black and HDR Peak 1000, but the menu navigation is wonderful with the joystick implementation on the bottom of the monitor. Depending on the content you're consuming, there may or may not be a noticeable difference between the two settings, but for day-to-day computing, you'll want to stick to HDR 400 True Black, because HDR Peak 1000 will cause distracting variations in brightness depending on what you're viewing. In order to run the monitor at full 175hz refresh rate, you need to drop the color depth to 8bpc. At 144hz and lower, you can run the monitor at full 10bpc color depth, however, I personally cannot see a difference in color reproduction, so I run it at 175hz. Lastly, the biggest disappointment with this monitor has nothing to do with the tech or quality of the product, but instead with the packaging. Because of the chosen packaging, my display arrived with micro scratches on the top two corners of the display. Admittedly, they're invisible during normal use, and I only noticed them when I had the monitor off. It's not a big enough deal to me to return the monitor, but it's still tragic when a brand new, top of the line, 4-figure cost product arrives damaged. I'm not convinced a replacement wouldn't have the same scratches anyway. If you made it this far through the review, thanks for reading. Bought a "refurbished" unit and it came new. The box was roughed up either by the previous owner or by the courier but all components inside the box are fastened and supported well so there was no damage; everything was in place as if I got it from the store shelves.The unit is immaculate. Not a single dead pixel. Came with all the wiring and pieces as described online.The one downside is that as far as I can tell you need to download Alienware Command Center to turn off the various RGB lights the monitor has - they're bright enough to illuminate your room which is annoying for movies or any dark ambience you want. I prefer physical buttons and an OSD. The purpose of OLED technology is to give you the purest/most accurate visuals in the first place, and I wouldn't want to adjust anything anyway, but FYI in case someone had reason/desire to make such adjustments.

Of course the draw of OLED is the deep, true blacks and high contrast ratio, but let me tell you the colors just absolutely pop. My unit has the latest firmware (MOB105), and I don't notice any technical hiccups or issues with the fan speed/noise which I did see was a complaint in other reviews. I also appreciate that Dell warranty extends to burn-in coverage, which is always a worry with OLED screens even though the tech has come a long way, and the monitors are much less prone to burn-in. There are a few negatives I can think of. First off firmware cannot be updated by the user, meaning you're stuck with whatever you get. The glossy screen coating does tend to be reflective, so try to avoid having a window with sunlight or any bright lights behind you/in front of the monitor or it'll likely be a nuisance. Also, the $300 price difference between this unit and the freesync/165hz "DWF" version is a little high for what you actually get in terms of improvements. However, none of these downsides are anywhere close to dealbreakers for me. In general, the Samsung-sourced OLED panel is amazing, the build quality and features provided by Alienware/Dell are great, and out of the different monitors that use the same panel, Alienware is absolutely the way to go due to the awesome 3 year Dell warranty which includes burn-in warranty, which as of right now other manufacturers don't offer.
Monitor lasted 3 weeks before getting a Bright Pixel Sub defect. Right in the middle of the screen and brighter than the whole screen combined. Warranty replacement sent me, a used one, covered in hair and hand prints. Nothing a Micro-fiber cloth can't fix, so not a major concern. To my surprise however, the replacement Monitor also came with a Broken/stuck Pixel. Now they will not replace the broken monitor they sent me, as its now within their policy to allow up to 5 broken pixels, which now of course conveniently falls right out side of the 30 day return window.... I wouldn't mind if it was on the edge of the screen, but being in the middle again I can't stand these consitent broken monitors. One of the best panels/displays I've ever used in my life. The blacks are super true black, the HDR is amazing and the colour range is very wide. It has been a pleasure to use. The only thing holding it back is a very common problem for the screen to turn off and on occasionally / randomly. You will see this unresolved on the dell support website for over a year. It's unacceptable for a monitor at this price point that it's unresolved. And I am fearful to RMA it just to get the same problem (as many people have mentioned). I also have tried different cables, updated the firmware, updated the software, all the same problem no matter the usage. This is unfortunate, so that's why I docked two stars down.

The display is thin and attractive, and the chassis is extremely handsome. 10. The size of this monitor is just right - not too small, and not too large. It weights only about 20 pounds, so it won't overload even a relatively wobbly desk. I prefer these ultrawide 21:9 monitors to standard 16:9 monitors as the 21:9 ratio is better suited to the natural placement of the eyes. There are browser extensions available, such as "Ultrawideo"and "Ultrawidify", that will crop the video streaming to fill the 21:9 display ratio. The ultrawide display ratio is also great for multi-tasking. 11. Computer graphics, polygons, and vector images are the display's fortes, as they look incredibly eye-popping. Its weaknesses: 1. Price. This thing costs over $1,000! 2. Out of the box, there is some text pixelation in the display, as many others have noted. This really isnt the displays fault, though as this is to be expected with a larger display with 2K rather than 4K definition. I advise using the Better Clear Type app, which will dramatically improve this issue. Using Better Clear Type along with Windows' on-board Clear Type program will make the issue basically unnoticeable. (See "Pro Tip" below for how to eliminate this issue and even make text look awesome) 3. Every flat screen monitor I've ever used, including this one, will show faint gridlines between the pixels if you look closely. This monitor has the faintest gridlines of any monitor I've ever used, but at the asking price of over $1,000 for this monitor, it would be nice to see this problem completely rectified. Many have commented on the continual need to do a pixel refresh every four hours. If you select the setting "Refresh in standby and don't ask again",the monitor will stop bugging you and will perform a pixel refresh after you power off the monitor. Out of the box, the Alienware AW3423DW is tuned for content, gaming, and entertainment rather than web browsing and productivity tasks. Despite this, if you use the default settings of the monitor, which I recommend, web browsing and productivity tasks look great as well. The only real way to improve on this monitor would be to make it 4K rather than 2K - but doing this would cause the monitor to sell for a fortune. PRO TIP: If you don't use this monitor for gaming and have an Nvidia graphics card, use Nvidia's "creator" rather than "gaming" driver. This makes content, including raster graphics, vector graphics (and text!), look incredibly beautiful. Doing this will also completely fix the text pixelation issue. Although this monitor is expensive at $1,000, I think it's worth it. I'm glad I spent the money on this. As they say, "Quality remains after the sting of high price wears off."

You also get a USB3.0 hub with 4 inputs. It'll be up to you to decide which HDR mode is better for your experience, but I recommend HDR 400 True black for SDR games converted to HDR through Auto HDR. Windows 11's auto HDR implementation is truly terrible and will lower APL more dramatically in most games for seemingly zero reason. This will slightly compensate for that. For modern HDR games with dedicated HDR modes built in, use the HDR 1000 setting. SDR brightness is pretty okay but nothing to write home about. Overall I love this monitor and recommend it if you don't mind tinkering with HDR settings a bit for the best experience!
Monitor showed up in what could only be described as used condition. Expressed this to Dell online support who told me it was indeed new. Took a chance and hooked it up. Smooth sailing after initial hook-up, then an hour later, monitor falls asleep and cannot be woken up unless it is unplugged for 10-30 minutes at a time. First try, it stayed on for two hours and I thought it was fine until it started again but this time the monitor started doing it again more and more frequently. So, onto a new computer and it did it again on a newer machine! The most annoying thing ever and the monitor had the newest firmware installed. Shipped back for refund but will not be purchasing again.
