I decided to return the unit and request a refund. I contacted Dell one week ago today and got an email response saying my request was received. It's a nice monitor in the "old school" 4x3 aspect ratio. I got it exactly for that reason--it's fits nicely on a 4-foot desk where it's used as a dual monitor connected to a 15-inch laptop. As this monitor uses IPS technology, the color and viewing angles are quite good. Some people might be bothered by the change in text size when moving windows from a laptop screen to this screen--the type will appear enlarged compared to your laptop. Frankly, since I adjust the laptop display to 125% to make the screen readable, the difference in pixel pitch is scarcely noticable to me. If you have eagle eyes and don't need to enlarge your laptop's display, then the difference will be quite apparent if you do a lot "Window shifting" between screens.

This was the perfect replacement for my Gateway 900G in my arcade cabinet. Exact same screen dimensions, Looks bright compared to the old monitor. A bit pricey, but well worth it for playing retro games.

I retired my 10 year old Dell 1708FP & moved up to the P1917S. It's a great unit & really helped with my 75 year old vision. It has numerous settings with extreme clarity for text & photo creation software. The widescreen monitors do not provide the screen dimensions I enjoy. I'm thrilled that Dell produces a 5:4 monitor of this quality!
I was looking for a secondary monitor and I really have a thing for odd aspect ratios, so this monitor was perfect! Plus it gives me such a nostalgic feeling when I use it.
Decent enough color. Not dripping, but functional. Set up easily as second monitor with Mac. It is nice to be able to get a squarish monitor for second screen arrangement. Takes less space. Adjustable height and angle is nice as are USB ports.
I was connecting to this screen with my laptop via HDMI chord and the image appeared stretched, no matter what resolution I selected. After days of trying, help desk calls and google searches, I gave up

Comes with all cables (USB, HDMI, and VGA - although I couldnt connect the monitor to the computer via USB but see below. Used the HDMI) and solid, polished hardware. You snap and twist it together in two seconds. It works as expected and I love it. BONUS: Two USB ports on the monitor. For these USB ports to work and sync you need to connect the monitor to the computer via the USB (in addition to the HDMI cable). Maybe thats what the USB cable and port behind the monitor are there for (and not to be the primary means of connecting the monitor to the computer). So maybe Im not such a klutz after all? Have used square monitors for years at work before I retired. Square monitor doesn't stress my hand/fingers that much as don't have to scroll up and down that much. Seems like no one is making square monitors now. So happy finally found a square monitor and it's the brand I prefer, to go with my Dell laptop! Only thing is wish they can make bigger ones.
An excellent monitor for home or business. I have bought a few hundred of these over the years and never had an issue. Clear and sharp along with USB connections, you can't go wrong with these 4/3 monitors from Dell!
