I continue to enjoy the capability of my home system. For my wife's new system, we researched the Mac mini and I researched and researched for an appropriate monitor. Since the old iMac has such a good 2K screen, I knew it was going to be hard to substitute a stand-alone monitor as good as it for less than $500. I jumped on the sale of the DELL S2721QS monitor. I opted for a refund rather than replacement because my wife pointed out the the monitor was shipped from a return address that was from a "Returns Center." There was ZERO indication that this was not anything but a new piece of gear. My exhaustion from researching and the fact that the new monitor was shipped from a "processing center" caused me to have doubt about waiting to receive a replacement monitor. My disillusionment comes from having expected the new DELL monitor to WORK. In industry and as a consumer, I know products can be DOA. I am exasperated and did not want to take the chance on a replacement S2721QS. So right now I cannot recommend DELL to someone else even though I maybe wrong about a replacement that could work. That being said, I have had zero problems with my DELL home system and I am quite grateful to be able to have it.

I bought these to replace two 24" FHD monitors that were roughly 7-8 years old. I am not a gamer but am in front of 3-4 monitors all day, five days a week at my desk.I needed something with a few requirements:(1) More on-screen real-estate(2) No compromise with pixel density. Preferable a greater pixel density then with 24" FHD.(3) Multiple inputs that can be easily selected to switch between systems without a full KVM setup. (Depends on my needs at any given moment I will mix and match monitors between systems).(4) Compatibility with my existing VESA multiple monitor mount setup. These monitors met all my requirements and were a great deal on sale. The blue light filter and increased pixel density (27" UHD vs 24" FHD) have reduced my eye strain significantly. The option to customize the first two buttons on the bottom rail to hot swap systems was unknown when I purchased but have come in very, very handy. My favorite feature, which was also unknown when I purchased... Is that I can switch inputs without my systems (both Mac and PC) being triggered into a display reconfiguration like happens with many monitors and almost all KVM setups.I have to remember that there are screens I am not able to view in any given mix and match scenerio, but this works perfectly for my business use case. I relate it to MacOS "Multiple Desktops" feature, which is not for everyone but works for me.

GREAT MONITOR w/annoying flaw in the HDMI software
30 August 2022

The monitor itself is excellent, great picture, style, etc. HOWEVER. There is a very annoying 'reminder' box that pops up on the screen everytime the computer boots up. I have the computer plugged into the control outlet of a powersupply and the monitor cord plugged into the automatically switched off slot which follows the state of the computer. This monitor is connected to an NVIDIA graphics card RTX 2060 through the HDMI cable. Each time I boot the computer the monitor shows me that it is searching for the HDMI connection. By the time Dells information box goes away and the screen is booted up Windows has already loaded to sign in (yea..). There is then the circumstance of when the computer or screen goes to sleep. Dells logic is very awkward. First Dell monitor will basically go to sleep for a second, then power up the backlight to show me messages about the HDMI connection. I do recall a time when knowing the status of the HDMI was not very important when people who know how to change the display press the menu button and scroll through the options. Whats confusing is that there is an 'AUTO' option for that and additionally no way to turn off dells messages about the HDMI connection. Its kind of a mad logic they have with this.I dont want to see the HDMI information at all, not at startup, not on sleep of the monitor, not on sleep of the PC, not on shutdown of the PC. Where is the option to turn off the alert? What really is the point? The monitor should just quietly go to sleep and not bother me so much.

Good display with room to improve
1 August 2022

Good display with room for improvements. The picture quality is excellent with the supplied cables. I have it connected to a GeForce RTX 3080 and it’s excellent in games for quality of picture. The deep blacks could be a bit better but it’s not an oled so it performs as expected. The improvement areas would be in build quality. It feels cheap - you need to be careful moving it around. I read similar reviews and was initially thinking people had lofty expectations - they didn’t. This is no where near the build quality of my NEC displays. Not close. Save the box if you’re transporting. Second is the height adjustment needs to allow for higher. You must tip the display out at the bottom to rotate it to portrait mode - not enough height to allow portrait straight vertical.

Not compatible with MacMini M2
10 May 2023

The monitor looks great, was packaged nicely, and seems to have a good build quality. However I was unable to get it to work with my MacMini M2. I tried connection both over HDMI (using the supplied cables) and Thunderbolt/USB C. Over USB the computer thought it was a 5k display, and over HDMI it didn't know what it's native resolution should be. I got it to display by manually selecting a 4k resolution, but it would only work at 30 Hz which is unacceptable. When switched to 60Hz, the monitor would display a message saying an unknown resolution was being used. So, while I don't think this is a bad display, it was not a good fit for my Macintosh environment. If you have a Mac, beware. I suspect Windows users won't have any issues and that it will be a lovely display.

Overall pleasant to eye and not fatiguing. However HDR is not a strong point of this display. Maximum brightness on HDR is insignificant compare to SDR contents. On both Mac and Windows, when HDR is turned on, the colour becomes washed out, with darker contents becoming much brighter, and bright contents way too bright or even white-ish.The biggest disappointment is the re-designed monitor. The cable maangement opening is way too small, the included power cable cannot even fit though (both ends of the cable are too big). This is simply unacceptable, the design should have included for the included accessories. Basically, only the display connectors can be cable managed.Height adjust, pivot and rotate work well, height adjustment is very smooth. Overall a superb monitor at low price, most of its cons are understandable cost-cutting to lower the price of the monitor (so don't buy at original price!!!), and are not deal-breakers. The display image quality is very good (not comparing to macbook pro).

great deal for the price

Dell and Micro center made it difficult for me to go with my original goal of getting a 5K display by offering this 4K display for about a 10th of the cost of the leading 5K displays. At that price, a lot of risk was removed for me. So how was the display. Certainly a 5K produced by LG or Apple would have significantly more pixels per inch and a lot more pop to it. But this display has proven to be more than adequate. With either 4K or 5K displays you have scale the picture up, otherwise at those resolutions most text would be too tiny to read. It has passed that test with flying colors. My one complaint was that its default settings turned out to be too dim for me. I had to adjust the picture settings to up the brightness quite a bit and the contrast just a tad. I use this for writing, for work, and for web browsing. I don't watch movies or play PC games using this monitor. For the demands of teleworking using this along with a 21" older full HD display as an extended display, it's been fine. The picture is not glorious or stunning, but it doesn't fail in any way, either.
