I purchased several of these and the Lightning dock adapter for my offices, as they were recommended by our Dell Business Advisor. With the Rugged Laptops using only a Lightning connection, and smaller Lightning powered laptops, it performs as expected. Even with an older Dell with USB-C, it works as expected. With the Precision Workstation, it cannot provide the required 240Watts of power to charge and act as a docking station. I had to apply a second 240 watts Dell supply to provide correct power. I spent days on the phone with Dell support, who sent a replacement dock and wanted to change mainboard in my 7780 I9 Engineering laptop. If you work from home and don't have a dock with external monitors then you are really hurting yourself! Having at least 2 monitors is critical if you work on the computer and want to be productive, and for my work where I need to jump between many programs and screens 3 screens is just right (more than that becomes excessive and I start missing messages or emails on other screens). I prefer to leave my laptop open plus 2 external screens and this works nicely for that. I do wish instead of 2 Display port connections it had 2 HDMI but I know this is a Dell so it's basically required to have display port connections. I've seen some people feeling stuck to a very limited option of docks to get 2 HDMI...no need, as long as it has USB-C you can get an inexpensive cable to have HDMI easily.This dock does make some high-frequency noise but it was mostly just while starting up and happens some while programs are loading. I doubt most peoples ears would hear that, and it really isn’t loud especially if you don’t have it right beside you. The dock performs great and makes such a difference to have everything connected so as you move around home and need your laptop you can just plug 1 cable in when you sit back down! I also wish it had more USB connections. I have a USB mouse, keyboard, camera, and wireless headset...so way over the 2 available. This also isn't a big deal because USB hubs are also very cheap (and having 2 USB-C ports is nice for that also) or I can leave the USB dongles for the mouse/keyboard in the laptop, but it would be great to have 4 built in. There is also no plug for speakers in this, for almost everyone that won't be a big deal, and you can get USB speakers if that's important to you.Overall this is a great dock. It's a Dell so it works easily and smoothly with Dell laptops...if you work from home and your company doesn't provide one it is so worth getting one yourself!

Overall, it a good dock with a few small faults.Dell pushes dock updates at least every few months. Unless you have a Dell account and have the full software update/diagnostics package installed it's likely you won't get notified.Without installing these updates, minor glitches sometimes occur, such as only one monitor displaying.My other gripe is with Dell's warranty service. I did an RMA on a defective WD19S dock a few months ago and was sent a "refurbished" one in its place. It technically works, but the fan will jump to a loud EF-5 velocity without warning and sometimes display a "your fan has failed" message at the same time. Video works fine up to QHD, fails with my 2560 x 1600 monitor. USB-C port does not forward video, so I had to plug in a separate USB-C to HDMI video adapter into my notebook. Like most docks nowadays, the USB-C to host (laptop) cable is hardwired, not a standalone cable with a socket on the dock, so if the cable gets damaged, the dock is toast. Saves a buck for Dell, but I'd rather pay $5 or 10 more and get video that works at least as well as a $20 video adapter, and a USB-C host socket instead of hardwired cable. Power supply is big and bulky, but not a USB-C power adapter. Why not? Wireless charger works great with a iPhone, and it's at a good angle for viewing - but that's not why I need a docking station. I'll probably keep it, but a rather disappointing design.

I'm not talking about games, though those are affected, I'm talking about business analysis software that requires good data speed and fast graphics for analysis and visualization. Many would say use a desktop for that work but for the past 20 years multiple companies and clients have not needed to buy two systems thanks to truly quality docking stations that were available on the Latitude line of notebooks. Notebooks have enough power to do this work, some even better than desktops, but notebooks are small and hard to work on 8 plus hours a day because of small keyboards and screens. They just need good connectivity and docking to make the process comfortable for people to work every day and still be able to take the machine with them when they go home to do other things that are not as intensive or focused. Ideally we will start seeing USB docks that can truly take advantage of Thunderbolt but getting clean and stable drivers that don't need to be constantly checked and updated is the first step.

At first glance it appears no different than the other docking stations Dell offers, except this one has dual Thunderbolt perfect for any Mac user who wants to have dual display, provided the laptop supports dual display for those equipped with an Intel, M1 Pro/M2 Pro; Windows users don’t need both for triple display, but if you have a discrete gpu, you can have 4 displays by taking advantage of the dual thunderbolt connections.The dock will not work without AC power as it is not powered by the usb. This dock is capable of charging your laptop via the usb-c/thunderbolt interface using power delivery (PD) all the way up to 200 watts, provided that you are using Dell’s powerful power brick 240W or the 280w.The dock will also work with a lower level power brick such as a the 130w or the 90w and even the 65w. I don’t recommend using anything less than 130w, because you want some room for your peripherals, and you also want to avoid damaging your dock and laptop, not to mention the risk of fire because your power brick will be overused.Most Dell laptops do not require anything greater than 65w or 90w with the exception being the XPS line that requires 200w. If you have a XPS model make sure your dock is paired with a A/C power brick rated no less than 230w to avoid causing damage to the brick, dock and your laptop’s battery.NEVER USE your laptop’s A/C power adapter even if rated 200w to power the dock. The internal component are not meant for heavy duty use, doing so WILL DAMAGE the adapter and possibly the dock. They are meant for standard to quick charge of your laptop only.
Layout is good, setup was easy, connections seem plenty fast with little penalty for going through a dock. One quibble is that when connected to the dock if the power cord pops out of the dock the computer does not continue on battery as it would without the dock, solved with duct tape and baling wire by elegantly anchoring the dock's power cable to its computer connector cable-- a handy use for the anti interference module. Really I used a bit of the twisty black wire from the shipping kit, it looks fine but this is the reason for only 4 stars. The new arrangement replaces a 6 year old Precision 7510 and Dell Thunderbolt TB16 dock.The WD19DCS sits comfortably under a computer stand and has a reasonable number of outputs. One always needs more and my wish list would be for one more powered Type A USB for all those legacy devices and one more USB-C connection.The WD19DCS design means you only need 1 PSU compared with 2 when using the TB16 but that is because 2 USB-C cables are needed to go between the WD19DCS and the 7780, presumably to provide sufficient power. We've tested a few USB-C docks in our company, and they all seemed to have something in common: for some random reason, they would just stop recognizing that things were plugged in. Monitors work, but keyboard / mouse is disconnected. Keyboard and mouse works, but the laptop doesn't see monitors. Randomly, they would just 'forget' that we wanted to extend the desktop. It was maddening, because it generated user calls and occasionally, you'd have to send them another one, and the one you got back worked fine; it was maddening!THIS dock however, seems to not have that issue.
