A platform into which you can install a portable computer. The docking station typically contains slots for expansion cards, bays for storage devices, and I/O connectors for peripheral devices, such as printers and monitors. Once inserted in a docking station, the portable computer essentially becomes a desktop model computer. Most importantly, the same data is accessible in both modes because it resides on the portable computer’s drives. The idea behind docking stations is to let you simultaneously enjoy the expansion possibilities of desktop model computers with the portability of notebook computers. In addition, the docking station enables you to use a full-size keyboard and monitor when you’re not traveling.

The Dock allows you to add monitors in addition to your laptop monitor and the image/picture quality is excellent on the added displays. My children absolutely love added monitors and the resolution and refresh rate for gaming. I am not travelling right now but this Dock is ideal to take on the go as it is small and portable. I love the convenience this device allows to have a workstation on the ready and simply plug and unplug my Dell laptop when I am coming and going. The dock itself is small, looks stylish on the desk, blends in well with my other devices and the ports are easy to access. Using the Dell Dock I can have been able to upgrade my laptop adding lots of extra devices I otherwise could not have. It just makes my computing more customized, enjoyable and powerful.

If you work from home and don't have a dock with external monitors then you are really hurting yourself! Having at least 2 monitors is critical if you work on the computer and want to be productive, and for my work where I need to jump between many programs and screens 3 screens is just right (more than that becomes excessive and I start missing messages or emails on other screens). I prefer to leave my laptop open plus 2 external screens and this works nicely for that. I do wish instead of 2 Display port connections it had 2 HDMI but I know this is a Dell so it's basically required to have display port connections. I do wish instead of 2 Display port connections it had 2 HDMI but I know this is a Dell so it's basically required to have display port connections. It does have 1 HDMI plus it has 2 USB-C connections so I use one of those and a cable that goes from USB-C on the dock to HDMI at the other end of the cable. I've seen some people feeling stuck to a very limited option of docks to get 2 HDMI...no need, as long as it has USB-C you can get an inexpensive cable to have HDMI easily. This dock does make some high-frequency noise but it was mostly just while starting up and happens some while programs are loading. I doubt most peoples ears would hear that, and it really isn’t loud especially if you don’t have it right beside you. The dock performs great and makes such a difference to have everything connected so as you move around home and need your laptop you can just plug 1 cable in when you sit back down! I also wish it had more USB connections. I have a USB mouse, keyboard, camera, and wireless headset...so way over the 2 available. This also isn't a big deal because USB hubs are also very cheap (and having 2 USB-C ports is nice for that also) or I can leave the USB dongles for the mouse/keyboard in the laptop, but it would be great to have 4 built in. There is also no plug for speakers in this, for almost everyone that won't be a big deal, and you can get USB speakers if that's important to you.Overall this is a great dock. It's a Dell so it works easily and smoothly with Dell laptops...if you work from home and your company doesn't provide one it is so worth getting one yourself!

This Dell dock is easy to set up and works really well! All I had to do was plug it in, connect my monitors, and connect my laptop via USB-C. Updating drivers was quick and painless. On the front you have a USB-C or a USB-A 3.1 option, which is perfect for my Dell Latitude. On the back you have two Display ports, one HDMI, another USB-C and two more USB-A ports. I have two monitors connected to it and the responsiveness has been great for both! The max resolution is 3840 x 2160 using the Display ports. The Perfect Solution for a Dell Set-Up

One unrealized benefit of the Dell dock is now I can leave my power cord in my backpack and not have to disconnect every time I needed to travel. My old generic docking station had some video sync issues, used the old USB port to connect, I had to use my Dell power cord for power, and the connections to the dock were so tight and on three side, making cable management a mess. The Dell dock has convinced me if you really want to use your Dell both in your office and on the road, the only sure fired way of getting the most out of the laptop flexibility, is to buy the dock that was designed for it, the WD19S.

Ultra Premium USB C Dock from Dell
11 June 2022

This incredible WDS19S 130W Dock from Dell packs some major punches that makes it into the premium tier of docking stations in the crowded market of docks/extenders. The Dell Dock has its own power brick and a detachable power plug that goes into the dock itself, which is quite a brick! The Dock measures about 3"x9" but packs quite a punch, including 3 display ports (2 DPorts and 1 HDMI), two USB C ports, 3 USB 3.0 ports, a LAN port, a power jack and the USB C connector to your laptop/PC.The setup was incredibly easy... there were no drivers that needed to be searched out or installed; my laptop found it automatically and it worked right away. The USB C connection to my laptop also functions as the charger, so it is essentially an extra charger for it. Works Fine, but Lacks Features for its Cost
10 November 2022

This is the standard-issue dock my employer provides. I am running 3 monitors with it, and it works well for that. Here are my issues with this dock, and the reasons I deducted 2 stars:1. It is very large compared to other docks and its external power supply is almost as big.2. It only has 2 USB-A ports. There is a lot of unused space on the outside of the housing, and it would have been easy to add several more ports. I had to add a USB hub to connect my peripherals.3. Two of the 3 video ports are Display Port. Most monitors use HDMI connections, so adapters or special cables are required to connect more than 1 additional monitor. I understand the flexibility of DP, but maybe 1 DP and 2 HDMI would be a better mix.4. No headphone jack. I realize there is a ... MoreThis is the standard-issue dock my employer provides. I understand the flexibility of DP, but maybe 1 DP and 2 HDMI would be a better mix.4. No headphone jack. I realize there is a higher model that has one, but this one is already plenty expensive, and again, there is plenty of unused space on the housing. I've seen docks the size of a cell phone that accommodate more devices than this dock for 1/3 the cost.On the upside:1. In addition to the hard-wired USB-C power pass-through cable that powers your laptop, there is another USB-C port that supports alt mode and could potentially accommodate more monitors (with yet another adapter). I'm assuming this port also provides Power Delivery, which is a nice feature for charging certain devices that require PD.2. The dock has a rubber bottom which keeps it from sliding around.3. Not sure if this is a pro or a con - There is a power button on the dock. Not only does it kill the video feed to the monitors and remove power from your laptop, it also sends a signal to the laptop to shut it down, and not gently. We're talking instant off. If you hit it by accident and have unsaved work, sorry Charlie!I can't say for sure if I'd recommend this dock to others. It seems very robust and has a quality feel to it, but the cost, size, and lack of ports are issues for me.

Works every time
31 January 2023

We've tested a few USB-C docks in our company, and they all seemed to have something in common: for some random reason, they would just stop recognizing that things were plugged in. Monitors work, but keyboard / mouse is disconnected. Keyboard and mouse works, but the laptop doesn't see monitors. Randomly, they would just 'forget' that we wanted to extend the desktop. It was maddening, because it generated user calls and occasionally, you'd have to send them another one, and the one you got back worked fine; it was maddening!THIS dock however, seems to not have that issue. Plug it in, it works. Monitors always come up, Networking and power works flawlessly. I even use it with my personal desktop now because KVMs are *so* 1995. I can switch from work to home every time with no fiddling and unnecessary reboots, or plugging it in 7 times to get it to recognize it was plugged in. Whatever voodoo that Dell does reduces user issues, and brings the laptop dock out of the dark ages and into the future.
