The WD22TB4 is absolutely a step up from the previous generation (maybe 2) Dell dock I had been using. The second issue, and to be fair it is minor, is the fact that the fan (didn't even realize it had one until this) is audible, that's it not loud not obnoxious but you can hear it.So overall this is the dock I will buy when I start aging out my current dock's or replace workstations with appropriate hardware.

After upgrading to a Windows 11 Pro Dell 5760 my dual screen work environment became so buggy I finally gave up and bought the WD22TB4.Overall many of the glitches went away with the WD24TB4. It still loses track of the task bar size and maybe screen settings occasionally forcing me to disconnect and reconnect the TB connector to my screen in order to correct it.My opinion is, I am a little disappointed at having ANY display issues, but I cannot totally say it is due to the dock. The first issue is that the hardwired and stiff Thunderbolt 4 cable limits where the dock can be placed in relation to the notebook computer. The stiffness of the cable causes the Thunderbolt 4 plug to work its way out of the notebook jack as it moves on your desktop, so it is best to not move the computer after it is connected.The second issue is the use of a standard notebook power brick with a round plug and its configuration in relation to the dock. As we all know, notebook power plugs are designed to pop out when tension is applied to prevent a notebook being pulled to the floor, however the breakaway feature is less than ideal in a desktop situation when one takes into account the weight of the ... MoreThe dock does what it needs to do, but the design is poor. In short, if the cable isn't seated perfectly gravity coupled with subtle movement can cause the power cord to pop out.Third, the placement of the Ethernet port is too close to the USB plugs on the back of the unit. In my case, I use an external video encoder to connect a third party camera and microphone to my computer with an Ethernet cable for stable video conferencing. The encoder is akin to a wide thumb drive and the spacing between the USB jacks and Ethernet port is about 25-30mm too narrow. Whilst this issue is present on Dell notebooks, the side-by-side configuration of the two USB ports makes it easier to accommodate wider devices -- the dock doesn't have that because the ports are stacked.Anyhow, I've made it work so it meets my functional requirements. However, the design needs to be updated and/or rethought. In hindsight, I wish I would have purchased a third-party dock instead.
So my hope for this product was that I'd be able to use it to quickly switch between my work laptop and my home computer by just plugging / unplugging this device, and in that specific scenario, it was an unmitigated flop :( But that was not the dock's fault - as a device, it did everything it was designed for, but my setup was not one that worked well for it.The biggest problem is, ironically, that it's way bigger than I expected. I guess it could work putting my laptop on top of it, but it's not a very stable setup.Either way, it didn't work for what I wanted, so I ended up testing it in other ways, and in all those ways, it passes with flying colors, so I'd say that it's only fair to give it a great score since it works for everything it should, even if I can't necessarily use it the way I'd hoped.

Your power supply only has so much wattage it can support, and they're fine if you can stick to the basic ports on your laptop. However, I bought a cheap ($50+/-) hub and started plugging in dual moniotors, exernal hard drive, a separate web cam, and more. Next thing I knew this system message said it couldn't do it all, not even with the cheap hub I had installed. I felt foolish, knew I couldn't blame Dell for my carelessness, and relieved my thunderbolt had not failed me. Whew!
Poorly designed. The connectors are too few and located on the wrong sides of the box. I consider the back of the box (the side facing away from me) to have the connectors for power, ethernet, two USB-A, one USB-C, and three Display Port. In my use case, one of the USB-A connectors is taken up by my wireless mouse receiver and one by a cable for my camera. That’s OK. But then the front of the box (the side facing me and most convenient for frequent use) has only one USB-C and one USB-A connectors. Considering that the XPS 17 9720 laptop that I am using has ZERO USB-A connectors, I think one front-facing USB-A connector is ridiculously insufficient. Most premium thunderbolt docks on the market that I’ve used allow you to replace the cable with something longer so that your desk setup can be as flexible as possible. At my current desk that I’m testing everything at, space is at a premium so the dock and laptop are taking up valuable real estate and leaving me with less open room to work. Dell docks (I’ve used similar models) seem to all share this issue. This device has a number of issues.1. It inexplicably has two DisplayPort outputs and one HDMI output. Who uses DisplayPort? People can tout its virtues all day, but HDMI is the standard that has won at this point, and providing more DP than HDMI ports is irresponsible.1a. The cable from the dock to the laptop is hardwired to the dock, so if something goes wrong with the cable, you cannot replace it; rather, you would need to buy an entirely new dock.5. When I connect my sleeping or powered-off laptop to the docking station and push the power station on the docking station, nothing happens--I need to open the laptop and push the power button on the laptop to turn it on.6. When connected to the dock, "sleep" does not work--as soon as I try, I am logged out and the login screen appears. Sleep is not possibleThe only thing good about this is that if you futz around with it long enough, it is *functional*, but not impressive at all. Truly a poorly designed product with no apparent QA process.
