It's a mess. Solve one problem (DHCP) and cause another. The language in the menus is messy and some of the on screen information telling me what mode it's in is not obvious, I don't know what it's telling me at times.

I don't use a surround system, just two Richter Merlin floor standing speakers. Installing the Denon was simple as all the connections are marked very clearly on the back. The setup process was a breeze as the on-screen Denon Setup Assistant guided me clearly through the process. The supplied calibration microphone made sure the sound suited my lounge well. Fantastic Value for Money

I have waited fora few weeks to post this review, so that I reflect fully considered opinions, not initial thoughts. I have to say that it’s a great AV amp and that I’d heartily recommend it. It replaced a 20+ year old Sony AV Receiver, which had served me well until it blew up, and the manager in the Glasgow Branch of Richer Sounds did warn me that I may have to reign in my expectations if I was comparing my new amp to the old one. I’m happy to say he was incorrect and my 2.1 set up with a Yamaha Sub woofer is excellent quality, so much so that i don’t think my (Philips) dull range speakers are good enough and I’m thinking about a pair of floor standers. Great amp, goes way loud enough and has Bluetooth streaming. Highly recommended...especially with the 6 year warranty.

The Positive:After years of hit-and-miss purchases of soundbars I finally decided to go for hifi separates. For my relatively small living room with no space for rear speakers or the possibility of Atmos speakers in the future I was happy to select this Denon to improve sound from my 50-inch HDR TV. I matched it with Q Acoustics 3020i's and the Q Acoustics centre speaker. The sound, especially speech from centre, is outstanding. When viewing with my Amazon Fire stick the sound quality is terrific with movies etc. When the source is high end sound this Denon really picks up every detail with clarity. Bring on binge nights-in!The Slightly Negative:I think if one has kids - i.e., connecting multiple sources like Playstation, BluRay and more - then the number or ... MoreThe Positive:After years of hit-and-miss purchases of soundbars I finally decided to go for hifi separates. But then you have to jump £200 in price. Also, for larger living rooms, if you want/think to add Atmos speakers in future this AVR will not be right for you.

Great Bluetooth mid range amp.
23 January 2022

This is a good amp but not as powerful as the Pioneer Amp we are replacing. We wanted a Bluetooth enabled amp and this seemed a good option. The auto turn off function was a bit annoying until we worked out how to stop it, must have enabled it during set up. Have all our devices, TVs etc running through the amp and functionality is good, a bit of a lag time when switching it on before you hear sound. The remote seems a bit tinny and cheap compared to the Pioneer but works perfectly.

Half the features don't work, app is very clunky
16 March 2022

Firstly, you need to hook this up to a TV when you first switch it on to select the language you want to use, or you can't use it, which is incredibly annoying if you're purely using this in a purely sound-based system. It has a screen, why not use that?! It's literally only yes/no options that you need to select!Advertises "Seamless Bluetooth connectivity". Doesn't work with bluetooth regardless of what you do. Spent 2 hours fiddling with their app, reading the manual, restarting everything, trying every music app and the bluetooth functions in the phone and on the receiver itself and couldn't get it to work. The device is either constantly trying to pair or saying it's disconnected even when it's connected. Spotify isn't even an option among the app list in the Denon 500 Remote app.....seriously? Your phone will connect with the receiver's bluetooth and that's about it. Regardless of where you play music, Spotify, Youtube, Soundcloud etc. it will play on the music app (no sound of course) and say it's connected to Denon but nothing will actually play out of the Denon. Yes, the bluetooth volume is on max in the Android sound settings and on the receiver itself. The app is absolutely useless and completely clunky to navigate and hasn't got a clue whether its actually connected or not, 90% of the time what it says in the app is the exact opposite of what it says, so I suppose it's consistently wrong at least. The app constantly disconnects itself despite bluetooth connection between your phone and the Denon still remaining connected in Android bluetooth settings. Android warns you that it's not even built to be compatible with the latest Android OS when you first open the app so Denon clearly doesn't support nor update this device in the very slightest.Only way to get wireless playback on this thing was to buy an additional bluetooth receiver and plug it into the aux input. Absolutely absurd for such an expensive unit when seamless wireless playback is something even cheap bluetooth speakers can manage. If you expect any sort of modern functionality and connectivity, stay well away from this thing, it's effectively an overpriced FM/AM radio that can power some big speakers. If you envision yourself having a smart home with app integration and using this thing, instead envision literally any receiver but this piece of junk because there is no ongoing app support for this device from Denon and it has worse connectivity than bluetooth devices from Aliexpress.
