Bass heavy but very good

It is also capable of some surprising volume. If you want this for parties or you're an RnB fan or similar, then buy it right away. The bass is my only issue with this speaker. But if you WANT bass, this will blow your socks off.

I have been a fan of anything Denon over the past several decades and for good reason; every audio device I have ever owned from Denon, whether it be a receiver, amplifier, etc. is very well made and the sound they have been able to create over 100 years of experience still stands true with the new Home 150 wireless speaker. Considering this is the smallest speaker in their line of wireless smart speakers, I was amazed by the power and sound just one sounds in a large room. Now with the option to sync multiple speakers throughout your house, business, etc. opens so many opportunities for audiophiles like myself and puts the Denon home wireless line near the front of the line as many other companies who have had the edge on this market for years.Right out of the box and before I even plugged the speaker in, I could really see and feel the craftsmanship from the weight and materials they used to put this speaker together. The instructions for setting it up were fairly simple and similar to most other devices in this generation. After you plug in the speaker, you download the HEOS application on your smart device and, after logging in or creating an account, it will automatically recognize the speaker and sync it with your account along with your other Denon, Marantz, Definitive Technology, or other devices such as addition speakers and receivers with the HEOS technology/logo. The app provided an easy walkthrough during set up. After the speaker and/or other devices are synced on your account, you can add any music services you subscribe to stream to the speaker including Pandora, Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer, Napster, iHeart Radio, Sirius XM, etc. The speaker also has options on the rear for an auxiliary input, USB input for digital audio, Bluetooth sync button, mounting screw hole and an ethernet input if you opt for a wired internet connection instead of Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, at this time, the smart speaker support has not been set up yet therefore I was unable to test those capabilities until the application receives a software update. The entire set up process including downloading the app, creating an account, and logging in to sync all my music streaming services took about 30 minutes. Now for my favorite part, the sound. Initially I tried to use the speaker with the voice assistant however that is when I realized the software update has not been provided yet which is mentioned on a disclaimer on the side of the packaging. Therefore, I opted to stream music directly through a third-party service offered on the smart phone HEOS app. Saying I was surprised at the sound from the speaker would be an understatement, and this was even without adjusting the highs and lows. If you are familiar with the brand, it is what anyone would expect from a Denon product. The overall sound was incredible, better than most other devices I have used in the recent past. One of the distinct features of all Denon products I have owned in the past is their ability to provide ample power for low end bass while not overpowering or distorting the highs. I planted this speaker in a discreet area in the corner of our master bedroom to not distract from how my wife decorated which she was happy with and was only able to turn this speaker up to about 75% before it was so overpowering that we could hear it clearly on the other floor on the other side of our 3600 square foot house. Keep in mind, this was just with one speaker. Pairing it with additional HEOS compatible speakers/devices throughout that large of a space should amaze anyone who is into music as much as us and I can only imagine what the larger, more expensive, speakers in this line sound like. Not only do you have availability to change the streaming service through the smart device app, you can also set up to three presets on the top of the speaker itself as well as control the volume and play/pause and I can’t wait until voice assistance is added at a later date.Overall, I’m very impressed with this speaker considering it’s the lowest model in this lineup and would recommend it to anyone in the market for a wireless smart speaker that loves crisp, loud sound.

Great little unit, with good sound.

From one of the most well know and reliable names in the audio business comes the new Denon Home 150 wireless speaker.

I bought this as an addition to a Marantz AV receiver setup - so it could be used both combined and as a standalone product. As a standalone product it is superb (although I keep getting verbal messages from BBC radio telling me that it won't keep playing the BBC content later this year, due to the switch to the Sounds app) the Denon website says that they are aware and are looking at this. The software is a little 'hit and miss' when tying up with the Marantz - both units are individually superb, but I've my fingers crossed that the 'Apps' are updated and that enables them to play nicely together. Occasionally even when the units are shown as 'a group' I get two separate streams of music that are out of sync and have to turn everything off and re-pair the units to ... MoreI bought this as an addition to a Marantz AV receiver setup - so it could be used both combined and as a standalone product. I bought a pair of these to use in my office basically because it would be too big of a production to run hard wires from my receiver (a Marantz NR1200). When these work, they sound great for the room. I have a set up where I have physical media sources (turntable, cassette deck and cd player) connected to receiver as well. The physical media sources constantly cut in and out on the speakers but streaming to the receiver works fine. Very odd and I can’t figure it out. The HEOS app is fairly wonky too. It’s not intuitive but I’ve figured it out. The big problem is one speaker will disconnect randomly, the speakers will unpair and the receiver will unpair from the receiver. Then I have to set up the room again. Usually that involves a bunch of resetting, unplugging ... MoreI bought a pair of these to use in my office basically because it would be too big of a production to run hard wires from my receiver (a Marantz NR1200). I would say if you are buying one and just intend to stream to it, it’s probably great. My setup has been a constant struggle.

I bought this speaker to take on holiday to sync with my iPad and iPhone. It relies on being connected to a wall socket and is not powered by a rechargeable battery so this is not the speaker for you if you are looking for portability outside the home.Richer Sounds had this or the Sonus as an option to buy, unfortunately it wasn’t available to listen too but having bought a Denon CD player from the same outfit in the past I trusted the brand. It wasn’t available in the shop to buy but was delivered to my house two days later in time to take on holiday. It’s easy to install and the quality of sound is amazing. Link to Airplay to sync sound in films it’s out of sync just using Bluetooth. You won’t be disappointed if this is the small kind of speaker you are ... MoreI bought this speaker to take on holiday to sync with my iPad and iPhone. I bought this to replace a whole stereo system as I’m moved and downsized. The reason I bought these over any wither similar speakers is that these have the option to use a usb stick so I can rip my CDSFirst listening was a bit underwhelming but it’s a case of you get out what you put in so Spotify was ok but not great. Crank up the volume and it gets a lot better and these are perfectly loud enough fo the average room. The USB worked fine with my portable hard drive but not the the usb stick I bought specifically for this . As might be expected theres better quality with MP3s although I think you can’t use an iPod with this so check if that’s your plan. Finally there’s also straight forward Bluetooth which is good as the app won’t play YouTube for example .As ... MoreI bought this to replace a whole stereo system as I’m moved and downsized. The easiest and best version yet!!

I now own and use ten of Denon's HEOS/Home series of wireless speakers. The newest versions are these Home 150 models and they are by far the easiest to set up and use. They also have "buttons" on the top panel that makes it easy to have up to three presets assigned. So far I haven't the need but when I do it looks to be quite easy to do so.These 150s can be used individually or as a stereo pair. It is also now possible to assign different models in the Home series (i.e., 150, 250 and 350) as stereo pairs. And it is EASY!Denon's Application is very easy to use. I can even wireless send my CD players music (a new Onkyo 6 disc player I bought here at BB!) or even my records!Yup! I can send the output of my turntable to any speaker or speakers in our home, wirelessly. Denon's Home 150 speakers and their HEOS system is without a doubt the best I have experienced. I have given Denon and HEOS/Home 150s to my older brother and his wonderful wife. It really is easy and the sound is superb! And unlike some companies, to date all of Denon's HEOS speakers are backward COMPATIBLE for use with the newer Home series of speakers. Denon is my choice in home entertainment! The new Home 150s are now a part of our home system and my brother and his wife's too! Trust me on this. I know what I'm doin' when I'm reviewin'.

I just downloaded the HEOS software, hit discover, allowed bluetooth and within a minute the device was paired and online. There were 2 additional downloads and updates that needed to finish but they gave the option to complete later. Updates took a bit longer than the 350 and I had at least 1 update that failed but it wasn't a deal breaker or brick the unit.Overall I was extremely impressed with the sound of the 150 despite its size. It is a tiny speaker so it gives you great sound well suited for smaller rooms or to supplementa a larger room. The HEOS software does a great job of allowing you to group multiple speakers together to give you multiple room coverage. The HEOS app also supports an extremely high number of music services, however, if you want to cast to speakers of multiple different makes or Apple Music, you can use Airplay 2 and cast to multiple speakers from different vendors which is amazing.Overall these are great speakers, the only downside I found was they do not have actual sound adjustment capabilities that I have seen, but the native HEOS app integration as well as the Alexa app integration are great. They don't support cross-vendor multi speaker support across different rooms but we will see if that resolves itself over time. The number of music services it supports is impressive but again, no Apple Music native support. Can be worked around via AirPlay 2.Overall great looking and sounding speakers!!!

The Denon Home 150 Wireless Speaker is a mono speaker with quality you would expect from Denon. The speaker is about the size of a coffee can, square with rounded edges and fabric covered on three sides, a panel up top with various touch controls (which are lights up when you activate the proximity sensor). The speaker consists of a one inch tweeter and a 3.5” bass driver with a pretty beefy magnet. On the back panel there is a connect button, Ethernet jack, USB plug, Aux in, Bluetooth connect button and a place to attach the power cord. Note on the last item, it does require power and cannot operate without being plugged in to AC power. Note on the last item, it does require power and cannot operate without being plugged in to AC power. There are a plethora connectivity options, including Bluetooth and WIFI – along with an ethernet jack. The unit also is compatible with Airplay 2 for connectivity to Apple Devices. The speaker direct connects to various music services, some of which offer high resolution sound. In addition, the unit also has the ability play and stream audio files from a USB drive you plug into the back of the unit. I found this capability interesting as it essentially makes the unit a little audio media server able to stream to DLNA clients (audio receivers, smart TVs and the VLC Player app I have on my AppleTV). I was also able to stream content from my Network Attached Storage (NAS). Really impressed with the capabilities and file formats it is able to play back including hi res FLAC audio files. For a techno nerd like me, exploring the 98 page owner’s manual truly revealed all the capabilities of this device (unfair to just call in a speaker). Now, to cut to the chase, all these features are great, but if the speaker does not excel in producing quality sound then the rest of it does not really matter. The sound is a bit punchy, bass heavy as others have commented, however in the HEOS app there are a few options you can use to tune the sound more to your liking, including a bass and treble EQ control. Frankly I would really like to see some more granular controls, however they suffice. There are some key settings which are buried in the mobile app which I did find made subtle differences in how the speaker sounded. One was “Speaker Placement” which had an impact on how “boomy” the speaker sounded and changed the emphasis on the low end response. Another was adjusting the Audio Quality from the default “Normal” setting to the high setting. This really seemed to bump up the audio reproduction, especially when playing high res formats. I can only conclude that at a high setting the network bandwidth usage of the device increases, which produce more dropouts, however I did not experience that issue. The HEOS mobile app (iOS version tested) leaves a little to be desired, the menu system is a bit convoluted, and it encourages you to setup an account with Denon, so you can easily access all your streaming music services (after you provide login credentials), not sure about providing this type of info. I did use the Spotify app to direct connect to this speaker without an issue. As for installation and setup, initially I had some issues with connecting to my local WIFI network. I had to try several times and had to reset the speaker back to factory settings. The speaker also received about 3 successive software updates which took about 10 minutes each to apply (not sure why you could not just jump to the most current version). In conclusion, there was a lot to write about regarding this speaker, I didn’t even touch on the ability of this device to interact with the rest of the Denon ecosystem or the added voice assistant capabilities which came with later software updates. This is really an audiophile’s dream smart speaker and has a bit of everything, just seems you really need to be a tech nerd to fully realize the potential of the device, performance is not out of the box, it requires some tweaking, and this is a perfect case of “read the freaking manual”.Pros:- Audiophile level sound- Plethora of connectivity options- Support for High resolution audio services and files- Built in media server that can be used to stream audio content to DLNA clients.- USB plugCons,- HEOS mobile app is a bit convoluted.- A bit bass heavy out of the box (can be adjusted)- Requires AC power, not meant to be portable
