I hated using the Microfoliant. Every time I used it, it felt like it was stripping my skin. It felt abrasive and harsh. Worst, after drying my skin, my skin felt parched and tight, instead of hydrated and comfortable like it does after using Tatcha's Deep Rice Polish. Actually, it does get worse: Microfoliant routinely caused me to break out (or it failed to prevent them? I don't know which), which is just obnoxious in a skincare product, especially an exfoliating cleanser. Tatcha's Rice Polish --even the Deep variety which is for oily skin-- is gentle and nurturing enough that I can use it daily, and it only helps my skin and makes it look FANTASTIC -- literally the best it ever looks. And since my skin is so ridiculously oily, I wasn't getting the daily exfoliation I needed -- hello, dull, constant-oil-slick and pimply skin. Yeah, Dermalogica's Microfoliant is a whole lot cheaper than Tatcha's Deep Rice Polish; I think Microfoliant costs about a third of Tatcha's. But it's still not worth it for me. I really tried to like it (I even bought it a second time, to REALLY give it a chance!), but it's not for me.

There is nothing on the market quite like this incredible product. I have acne breakouts monthly, and before and during that time, this product has helped my skin immensely! It takes some practice and time to whip it into the proper foamy consistency. I find that you can use a smaller amount with a smaller amount of water, and as long as you keep mixing it in a cup or bowl with your fan brush, (any large one will do) it will eventually be the right texture with either a tiny bit of water or powder added. It should be smooth and foamy. A few chunks here and there is normal. But if you are allergic to aspirin, this is not for you. Salicylic acid is aspirin. So if you aren’t, and you are prone to acne, blackheads or breakouts, this will help so much!! I love it!!!

Remind you before use my skin was totally clear thanks to my Dermalogica routine. I gave it a few weeks of use hoping it would clear up. I recently ordered my second bottle of the Daily Microfoliant. I had previously liked the exfoliation and skin brightening I had received from using the product, but found the method of application to be messy and annoying. After stumbling upon an online demonstration of another way to apply the product, my opinion changed. The online demonstration suggested putting the desired amount of product in a small bowl, adding a few drops of water, and thoroughly mixing it with a fan skin care brush until it turned into a creamy, slightly foamy emulsion. This was a game changer for me. I could now use the product without creating a mess and the results were significantly better.I can totally recommend this way of applying the product and am now a regular user.

Dermalogica Micro- AND Milk-foliant Exfoliators
16 April 2024

- Writing this review for both Dermalogica Microfoliant AND Milkfoliant Exfoliator -I bought these on a whim during the Sephora Savings Event. I've read so many good reviews and glad I finally got the chance / time to try them. I wanted to try both because my face is EXTREMELY sensitive especially to exfoliators/scrubs. I'm talking about the slightest touch of the wrong product on my face cause my skin to either burn, sting, or compromise my skin barrier whether the facial scrub/product was a liquid or physical type. This may sound silly but it worked for me so here we are: after double cleansing my face at night (as I always do), I tried the Microfoliant on the left side of my face, washed it off, then tried the milkfoliant on the right side of my face, then ... More- Writing this review for both Dermalogica Microfoliant AND Milkfoliant Exfoliator -I bought these on a whim during the Sephora Savings Event. I'm talking about the slightest touch of the wrong product on my face cause my skin to either burn, sting, or compromise my skin barrier whether the facial scrub/product was a liquid or physical type. This may sound silly but it worked for me so here we are: after double cleansing my face at night (as I always do), I tried the Microfoliant on the left side of my face, washed it off, then tried the milkfoliant on the right side of my face, then washed it off.First, I want to say how HAPPY I am I tried both and that I finally tried this brand. Both products worked so well for me -- they did not cause any irritation, sting, burning sensation, or any of the sort. Both also did not have much of a scent (if any), so cheers for no fragrance sensitivity too. Both gave me smoother skin (I felt the differences as I rinsed each one off my face after a minute from application).Between the two, I feel that the microfoliant exfoliator is a stronger physical scrub than the milkfoliant one. I'm guessing it depends on how abrasive your skin needs your facial scrub to be, so if you're looking for a stronger polish, then you'll like the microfoliant better. On the other hand, the milkfoliant one is definitely the more gentle scrub, but not so gentle that you don't see or feel a difference in your skin after. This was the first one I tried since I though the Micro would be too harsh for me. I was really impressed with both of them and completely love both of them. However, since even the milkfoliant seems too gentle for me, I will be sticking to the microfoliant one from here on now. Both are must-try! Will definitely repurchase.

I have tried every high-end exfoliant there is out there... chemical, physical, magical, you name it. I've used every popular brand and every obscure one. This is THE best, and well worth the hype. I have sensitive, dry skin, and this does not irritate it at all. Dermalogica tends to refer to this product as a chemical exfoliant, but of course it is a mechanical exfoliant as well. (And I think we all need both.) In fact, after reading everyone's reviews, I was surprised the texture is as gritty as it is. I wasn't expecting much, but I like it. And you can definitely customize it, as others have said. Less water = more abrasive. My skin is so smooth and soft, I need about half of what I used to apply with regard to other products. And makeup goes on so much better. ... MoreI have tried every high-end exfoliant there is out there... chemical, physical, magical, you name it. My skin usually does not tolerate salicylic acid at all, but the low concentration in this particular formulation makes it a non-issue. I use this product daily, and yes, it's not cheap. But it should last you a while if you stick with a max of 1/2 tsp. per use. Oh and the smell... those who are mentioning a nasty odor must be using an expired product that was maybe purchased off ebay or the like? Because mine smells faintly of lemon and oatmeal, and is really pleasant.

Not the best of exfoliators...
31 July 2024

I followed the instructions and used a small amount of powder mixed with water into a paste, and then massaged over my face for 1 minute before washing off. It worked fine, no irritation or adverse effect, even a degree of 'brightening', but at the same time it did not exfoliate properly as my skin felt somewhat bumpy straight after and not as smooth as it usually does post-exfoliation. Most of my clogged pores were still clogged. For comparison I can use St Ives or most other drugstore exfoliators and get much better results, at a fraction of the price. ~ My Top 5 Beauty Must-Have list ~1. I used to use this product several years ago back in 2016 or so when this was super popular. Back then it was a dark grey powder and came in much bigger bottles. I was so disappointed to see they've changed everything about it. The amount you get is smaller for the same price, the opening is now just a single hole you pour out of, and most importantly the product itself is a white much finer powder. It doesn't have the same feel on the skin, the original truly felt like a very very minor gentle exfoliation, you could still somewhat feel the grains or at least it doing something to your face, so much so that it would actually foam a little bit, and the results were excellent. This one is like the product totally dissolves into liquid and doesn't exfoliate at all, ... MoreI used to use this product several years ago back in 2016 or so when this was super popular. WARNING - SPIDER VEINS
27 October 2023

This product was recommended to me by a skin consultant for every day use. I have used it daily for less than a week, and now have spider veins on both cheeks, and my nose. I woke up this morning, and my nose looks like Rudolph. This can happen to anyone, but is most likely to happen to people using mechanical exfoliation (not chemical), with fair skin and Celtic ancestry. I only wish I had known what it was when my first cheek showed red capillaries, so I could've avoided further damage. This is permanent damage that can only be repaired by a medical procedure. I used the product exactly as directed, and there is no warning on the product about this. Dermologica does a terrible job of informing people about potential side effects of the products that they sell. ... MoreThis product was recommended to me by a skin consultant for every day use. This is the only thing that has truly worked for me with consistency to exfoliate all the gunk out of my pores. Make sure you're adding enough water to it, because yes, at first when it was it was too gritty, it irritated my skin, but remember it's still chemical product, use it gently and it will do its job safely. I have a really stubborn whiteheads in my chin, it hurts using a tool or pore vacuum to extract them, masks and pore strips didn't really work.I'm very glad to have found this! I first bought the small size and it lasted me 2 and a half months. I liked it so much I decided to buy the full size directly from Dermalogica and found myself purchasing a whole new skincare routine.
