Derwent Studio Pencils are ideal for finer details and outlines. Their harder wax core means that they are great for intricate areas such as feathers, grass blades, etc. They are best used for finer detail and covering smaller surface areas. Derwent Studio Pencils’ high-quality pigments can be quite vivid if applied heavily, or build up layers of tone gradually rendering a sense of depth within your artwork. They are suitable for all types of paper. If applying heavy layers, use a stronger mixed media paper or drawing paper with a higher gsm. The harder core means the Derwent Studio Coloured Pencils hold up to pressure quite well, but avoid applying to much pressure as the hard point of the pencil can imprint or indent the paper. They feature a slim 3.4mm core inside a 6.9mm hexagonal barrel which is easy to grip and is designed so that the artist has better control of the pencil.

When I got this set I didn't realize that it's really intended to shine for its use on black paper. It works great for adding just a little something to watercolor paintings. One word of caution, when wetted it looses some of its metal effect and becomes difficult to notice. Great product.

Just started doing "adult color sheets", purchased first pencils from big box craft store. When I received the Metallic pencils I couldn't wait to try them out. They are beautiful, smooth coloring pencils. Can't wait to get more colors. Yes a little more expensive than other pencils but totally worth it.

I have used other brands of metallic pencils before (Faber-Castell, Prismacolor) and by far Derwent knocks these brands out of the park. I use metallics primarily as accents with other matte colors around it for a bit of color interest. These pencils are wax based, and are not as prone to the wax bloom as Prismacolor is and is a great accompaniment to the Faber-Castell Polychromos as you must be very careful if using them with the Prismacolor Premiers. For the price and quality of these pencils you can't go wrong! Just one funny thing in my pack, the color label for the Pink and Red are reversed, so I got a factory defect pack, but they still work great!

I bought them as a gift for my daughter-in-law. She enjoys using tbem. The "metallic" pencils give her a greater range of colors.
I love to color to relax and take my mind off of my pain, coloring helps. I have mostly Prismacolor pencile but the one thing they don't have is Matalics. These are really nice colors and great for that special effect I was looking for. I highly recommend them.Dawn
Using them for adult coloring books. Best metallics I've used to date. I'll buy them again!👍🏽
I own several sets of colored pencils and these were a great addition to the sets that I had and are perfect for black paper!
The pencils are watersoluble which is great, but they don't look very metallic when they're wet. And at first they didn't look very metallic when dry as well but if you look at it in the light and at an angle, it's very beautiful and glittering. though I wish the store I went to had Faber-Castell Red Line Metallic Pencils. They would have been cheaper. But these are a good brand and good quality as well. My only complaint is that they are a little pricey and they crumble if you press too hard.
This color pencils are not as metallic as they claimed to be. The packing was very nice. Picture on the case shows a nice photo but colors don't color metallic. It's like any other pencil very matte.
I use the Metallic Pencils in my Art Journals. I couldn't find them in my local art stores and finally found them on Dick Blick. They are a perfect journal pencil...pretty colors! Definitely another product to enhance your pages....
