Sadly this book bag is very small and really not usable for school. Cannot fit a standard size folder nor a lunch box. Shouldn’t be advertised as a school backpack.

We purchased this for one of our twins, as a companion to a previous Schmusebar version passed down in our family. Change in features include:i) a single clasp versus double clasps - you cannot overstuff the pack and cinch the lid down as neatly as with the previous versionii) movement of the zippered pocket from the front to the lid - less useful in our experienceThe volume remains adequate for our 2yr old kiddos.

This is the most perfect, starter backpack for your toddler or child. It's very small so pretty much any kid that can run, can carry this pack. They will grow out of it once they start school, but I loved this pack for my kids when they were five and younger. Deuter is the most durable kids backpack on the market. It was important for me to find a pack that would withstand my kids constant use of the pack. My kids like to throw their backpacks, fill their backpacks and sit on their backpacks. And 5-6 years later, the packs still work and not even a buckle has broken. Full disclosure, I am a Deuter Ambassador and Professional Skier.

This is the most perfect, starter backpack for your toddler or child. It's very small so pretty much any kid that can run, can carry this pack. Good padding, good size for toddlers, bright colours, chest strap, easy open buckle. Just the rucksack style (no zippered opening) did not suit me, and I do wish the side pockets were slightly bigger or have abit more give to better accommodate some of the bottles we own (e.g. hydroflask kids). Otherwise great pack, plus its fairly rare to spot anyone with this pack so easier to identify vs the popular Skip Hop animal ones.
Our four year old loves this pack. It’s well-made and very cute. My only complaint is that the pouches on the side are too small to easily fit an insulated water bottle or a kids Nalgene. She clips the bottle into the chest strap instead, but it wobbles around and bothers her from time to time.
This backpack is the perfect size for my 3 yo son. There’s enough room for a full change of clothes, snack container, hat, and mitts. The buckle to open the main compartment is easy for little hands to squeeze. I like the small pocket on the top of the pack to easily access small/frequent use items.
My daughter (5yr old) takes it to school every day, with lunchbox, sneakers etc. It fits a reasonable amount of stuff without being too big for a small child's back. It doesn't work great with notebooks (we have to bend the big ones a bit, but she doesn't mind). She bikes to school so comfort and staying on the back is key, which this bag does really well. We've only used it for a few months but I have high expectations for the durability for a few years (school or excursions).
My three year old loves his new backpack! Fits all he needs for our adventures and sits comfortably on his body. The only thing missing is perhaps a smaller front pocket to quickly access smaller items. Other than that, it’s perfect!
The design is great and makes my son a part of the experience of hiking out with gear. He carries his own clothes and a toy in there without problems. He is four and loves the pack. When not using it for trips, he uses it as his school bag and it has endured all the abuse four year olds put it through. Would buy another one for my daughter if they were still available.
We bought this for our child going to JK. I would say it would be perfect if it was say a 10 or 12L pack. At 8L it is perfect for a toddler up to a preschooler.Looks great, the chest clip is easy for kids to use, and the fabric seems water resistant and easy to wipe clean.
