Devil's Lair Margaret River Chardonnay

(5 reviews)

Devil’s Lair is an ancient cave in the south of the Margaret River regionwhere evidence of life 50,000 years ago can be seen. The exact location remains a mystery to all but a few and those who are privileged enough to visit must do so in the company of a traditional elder. For Phil Sexton, a former archaeology student, it was the perfect name for the nearby winery he founded in 1985. Devil’s Lair Chardonnay has since built a reputation for its taut acidity, excellent minerality, great length and structure, and subtle oak influences. Tasting blind, our panellists fell for its beautiful fruit flavours, noting it to be delicate and refined yet still with marvellous power. Light toast and minerals on the nose give a hint of grapefruit and white peach. The palate is impressively precise and fine but with flavour that penetrates and builds to a very long finish.
