The DCL040 is a reasonably good flashlight, but generally overpriced for what you get. The only reason I bought it was because a local store had a super deal, below $20 for the bare tool. The light is usefully bright. Being able to use the DeWalt battery system is this light’s greatest distinguishing feature. The swivel head and ability to stand on its battery are nice. But that's where it ends. For the suggested retail price of $84, I would expect a focusable beam, different brightness levels, and an included (rather than optional) belt clip, features found on flashlights commonly available at half the price. If using the DeWalt battery system is important, it's a fine enough light if you find it at a good price. Otherwise, you'll be happier spending your money ... MoreThe DCL040 is a reasonably good flashlight, but generally overpriced for what you get. Back when I was a teen, my parents proudly presented me when a Craftsman cordless drill and spotlight combo. The spotlight was a favorite of mine, but it ALWAYS blew out it's little bulb, just a slight jostle was all it took. After replacing the bulb four times, I got frustrated and left it in it's case. Fast-forward a couple decades, my parents (yes, they spoil me!!) bought me a DeWalt cordless vacuum with two batteries for Christmas. I saw this on a slight sale after Christmas and decided to get it. WOW. Don't stare at this thing when you turn it on. Seriously. You will injure your eyes. Even the lower-brightness red setting is more than sufficient to light up a room. While I know from study and experience that LED's are more robust than bulbs, I still wondered ... MoreBack when I was a teen, my parents proudly presented me when a Craftsman cordless drill and spotlight combo. Well, I had to help my dad replace a pump in the washing machine recently, and this spotlight was a clutch tool. It was left on for just over four hours, and barely used any of my 3 aH battery's capacity. Also, it was kicked, knocked over, and accidentally bashed around inside the washing machine repeatedly in those four hours. Nothing burned out! So as you've likely gathered, I am stoked to have a portable spotlight back in my tool arsenal, and more stoked that I know it won't burn out if I so much as gently bump it. Given the price of DeWalt's batteries, this may or may not be a worthwhile purchase for you if you need to buy a battery for this. BUT, if you have one of these 20v MAX batteries, I'd strongly suggest looking into this spotlight.

This is my third Dewalt flashlight of this style in my stock. The adjustable head puts the light where I need it, or it's easy to carry around in the dark, like on an after dark walk in the neighborhood. The light does not run the batteries down much either. They last forever on a full charge. I highly recommend this product. I have numerous Dewalt 20V tools, and I am happy with allow them.

This DeWalt spotlight has a good construction, the plastics are the same as the other electric tools, the ergonomics are very good and the possibility of tilting the light beam on multiple positions is very convenient, this is useful when leaving the spotlight on a different work plan from which you are working. there is a metal ring on the upper part of the lamp which allows it to be hooked onto a bracket or a ledge and the operator can work in suspension such as on a ladder. As I already have several 18V cordless tools from DeWalt I can use the same batteries with this lamp. The light beam is quite powerful, emits a very bright circular beam of light in the center and tends to blur as you move away from the center of the light circle. As I already have several 18V cordless tools from DeWalt I can use the same batteries with this lamp. The light beam is quite powerful, emits a very bright circular beam of light in the center and tends to blur as you move away from the center of the light circle. This spotlight is great for most work applications but if it is to be used to illuminate large areas it would be better to opt for a more powerful DeWalt spotlight that illuminates a larger surface. Once the battery is inserted in the lamp, you will notice some movement but this is normal in DeWalt tools, as the connectors of the lamp body also move together with the battery to avoid damage in case of falling of the object. The tilt mechanism of the light beam would seem a bit delicate but this is just my feeling, perhaps it was designed in this way to be able to operate it even with one hand. The led bulb cannot be replaced but it is guaranteed to operate for more than 10,000 hours, therefore truly many hours of life. In conclusion I can say that it is a really good spotlight. Sorry if there are some grammatical errors but I haven't written in English for a long time, good evening everyone.
This is a great flashlight! Whether you are using it to work inside with, like in an attic or an electrical box or service panel or a crawl space, it is a very good helper! I recently went outside at night and grabbed this light to use because it was handier than any other one that I have. I was amazed at the brightness and the spotlight of it. I decided to buy another one to keep in my pickup truck. I thought it would be better than the regular flashlight I have had in my truck for several years. This one will stand up on its own, is adjustable, and would be a big help when changing a tire at night. It is easier to hold and brighter than a regular flashlight. I highly recommend!
This light was great while it lasted — I bought this light on a set of other DeWalt power-tools. I’m all for the yellow and black but I was disappointed with this light because it died about 3-years after I bought it. It’s bright and compact with a long battery life if you use the larger DeWalt battery packs. I’m unsure what I’ll replace this light with but I’m going to reconsider buying another DeWalt light and make sure I add a protection plan. It looks like these lights have a 3-4 year lifespan based on the similar experiences mentioned in the other reviews.
I originally bought this for camping and power outages and for that it works perfect. This light will easily light up a 20 x 20 room giving you enough light to do anything you want to do in a power outage. I looked at some of the more expensive lights but for as often as I am going to use it I didn't want to spend that much. I will say I think the 110 lumens is a typo as I put it next to my dad's 1000 lumen flashlight and it was significantly brighter than that close range and was able to reach out significantly further than his as well. Using this as a spotlight I was able to pick out a racoon in a tree line well over 100 yards away and in my opinion you can't ask for more than that from a 28 dollar flashlight. Battery life is pretty great in my opinion I have only ... MoreI originally bought this for camping and power outages and for that it works perfect. Using this as a spotlight I was able to pick out a racoon in a tree line well over 100 yards away and in my opinion you can't ask for more than that from a 28 dollar flashlight. Battery life is pretty great in my opinion I have only used it twice so far but 2 ah battery with 2 bars on the fuel gauge got me just over 7 hours of light. That is between 10 and 12 hours of constant run time on a single 2ah battery and for me that's pretty great as I always seem to have 5 or 6 charged ones kicking around. I do have 3 small complaints about this light which aren't deal breakers but they did stop me from giving this 5 stars. Complaint 1 is there is no magnet on this light so if you are buying this to work on your car or truck I would not recommend it as the head also does not swivel down meaning you couldn't set this in your engine bay and point it down to see what you're working on. Complaint 2 is that there is there is no way to focus the light between spotlight and floodlight. You will see on other reviews as well that dewalt set it up to kind of hybrid between spot and flood and they did a good job but I think any "work light" should have that option to broaden the light pattern for larger areas. Third and lastly is how cheap the head and head swivel feel. The hinge is good enough to hold the head where you aim it but I would definitely not want to drop this thing more than 3 ft I wouldn't trust it. Again for the purpose that I bought it for these things don't make or break the tool. For the size of it and the price I paid ($28 canadian) I'd say I made out like a bandit. This will be coming with me on every camping trip from now on and when I am home will be extremely useful in power outages (winter storms can be brutal where I live and we average over a week every winter without power) it also works great for doing pre trip inspections on a tractor trailer at night but you could use a smaller flashlight for that just as well. I am sure there are tons of other uses for this light but those are my main uses and for those used it works perfectly well and I am very happy with it.
I have had this flashlight for years. It's a great light. I use it all the time. It is bright and can reach a good distance away. The only problem is the switch. Every since I got it the switch functions intermittently. I tried to find a replacement switch to replace it but no luck. It was a gift from my belated husband our last Christmas, so I have dealt with the issue. However, it has gotten much worse, to the point that it might come on after pressing the switch 20-30 times. It's not reliable in an emergency situation. It's a shame because it is a great flashlight when it works
I bought this Dewalt DCL043 in mid-June of 2020 for $45 on a DOTD. I wanted to wait to write a review until I had an opportunity to use it in real-world situations. I've used it about a dozen times now, so here's the TL;DR bullet point review: Pros: Super bright Seems well-built The pivoting head is very useful Sits on a floor or bench securely without tipping when sitting upright, or rolling away when the head is pivoted 90 degrees into a more traditional flashlight shape Long battery life even from my little 1.5ah batteries Did I mention it's very bright? Cons: It's HUGE. Very, very large. Takes up quite a bit of space in the bottom of my 22-inch portable toolbox. Desperately needs selectable brightness modes! You have three VERY bright, useless dim red, and off. ... MoreI bought this Dewalt DCL043 in mid-June of 2020 for $45 on a DOTD. You have three VERY bright, useless dim red, and off. I would love to see this light upgraded with Hi,Med,Low settings! Using this while piled under the sink in a bathroom vanity was almost uncomfortable because of the overkill of light. Summary: This would have been a five star product for me if it had selectable brightness modes. I can even tolerate the excessively huge design, but man the lack of brightness settings is a bummer. Still, I love this light and I'm happy with my purchase.
