DeWalt Heat gun

There are multiple uses for this product. I have use it for heating irrigation tubing, shrink wrap and to defrost refrigerators and freezers. Anywhere you need to apply heat to to complete a project. The unit has two temperature settings and the two attachments aid in applying heat to the object under repair. The battery operated capability allows this unit to be used anywhere needed.

I bought this strictly for heat shrink. It does well on basic small-wire heat shrink, but I have marine grade heat shrink with adhesive for things like battery cables under the hood. I sat there what felt like forever on the higher setting and ran my battery down quickly. It's extremely well made and I thought I would love it. I don't, it's just okay.

Excellent for electrical work

It might work for a really small area to strip paint, but isn’t the right tool for that.Trigger switch has a secondary toggle that prevents - or at least more difficult - for the gun to run accidentally such as within the bag.One item I wish the unit had would be a mode/switch to blow plain air to quicken the cool-down time and/or a protective heat absorbent tip cover that could be slipped on directly after use. Tip and accessory attached remains extremely hot, meaning you can’t just finish a setup/repair and toss all the tools in the bag.Overall great tool addition.

Good tool for what it's made for
9 July 2022

This is a nice compact & portable heat gun for small jobs, especially where dragging a power cord would be inconvenient. I've used it to repair breaks in our underground dog fence, and my wife has used it for some vinyl stencil work in her crafting (I've also used it to release bubbles in epoxy resin pours).Compared to my corded heat gun, it does not produce NEAR the volume of air, and I haven't compared max temps between the two. I'd say they're probably close enough it doesn't matter - but the air volume I did find a little disappointing. You're not going to work quick with this tool, but for some applications, that's okay.

Great Heat Gun For Small Projects
27 July 2021

This is a great heat gun for small and quick projects. I purchased it to dry small areas of paint, wet drywall, shrink wrap, as well as for other miscellaneous projects around my home. It doesn't disappoint. It heats up fast, gets as hot as advertised and the safety and continuous trigger lock make it comfortable to use and prevent accidental triggering. The build is what I expect from DeWalt. The grip is comfortable, the gun itself doesn't get hot, it feels solid and isn't too heavy(though 4+ Ah batteries make it significantly heavier). My only complaint is that it drains batteries fast (less than 15 mins continuous use on a 4 Ah fully charged battery), the heater parts stay hot well after use and the gun can't stand up without the battery. However, I do think ... MoreThis is a great heat gun for small and quick projects. However, I do think DeWalt compensated for the hot issue by including lots of rubber parts including side bumpers that keep the hot parts off of surfaces. The gun would just need to cool before storing away.

Great for electrical

Quality feel and build, small, compatible with my existing 20V Dewalt batteries. Works well for heat shrink tubing, low-temp solder connectors, softening wire insulation and irrigation tubing.I use this mostly for exterior lighting and audio wiring. Buried cables are using hard when dug up, this works well for softening the insulation, applying heat shrink tubing, and the low-temp solder connectors. If you are wanting to strip paint or similar application, it isn't going to create enough air flow or heat a large area -better to stick with an A/C powered heat gun for that work.Trigger switch has a secondary trigger to keep it from accidentally running in the bag.An improvement Dewalt could add would be a switch to blow plain air - speed up the cool-down time ... MoreQuality feel and build, small, compatible with my existing 20V Dewalt batteries. In a pinch tool
16 December 2022

Okay now, it serves the purpose. You need a quick solderseal or shrink tube some wire, thaw a frozen lock, peel off a label or sticker,or work some bubbles out installing some graphics. It will do it and that's all it is meant for small quick tasks as it burns through batteries at high speed. Does its duty. You got a big job use a corded heatgun. Lock on feature is a plus. I can't speak on the longevity but its a dewalt so I'm not worried.

Looks good, till you turn it on.
12 November 2022

I have been on the Dewalt 20 volt, platform. For several years. All of the tools I have purchased, have been worth there weight, in gold. Until I bought the heat gun. There were a lot of negative reviews, I figured its Dewalt. It has to be good quality?. This is a tool that needs more power, or should be left, as a plug in. I have a $10.00 heat gun, that puts it too shame. It does not even get hot enough, to melt heat seal butt connectors, that I use by the hundreds. Live and learn, I should have listened to the other reviews.

Perfect for delicate work
29 March 2022

This heat gun is perfect for delicate work. Example being decal removal from vehicles. It puts out just enough heat but not too much that you need to worry about damaging the factory paint near or under said decal. The trigger system works great and comes with attachments. If you've a rapid charger it will recharge a 4 or 5 ah battery by the time you you run out. In other words if you've a lot of heat gun work to do make sure you've got two batteries.

Totally Useless for any/all intended use(s)
17 December 2021

I purchased this thinking this would be absolutely perfect for a somewhat compact and portable cordless heat gun to be used for wherever I might be working on anything that might require heat shrink tubing. This heat gun is not capable of properly installing 4:1 adhesive lined heat shrink tubing, and if there’s any wind blowing whatsoever, it won’t properly shrink 2:1 non-adhesive lined heat shrink tubing. If you’re wanting this heat gun to install heat shrink tubing in the field, don’t waste your money on this tool. The maximum I’d consider paying for this tool after having owned it for almost one year now, is ~20 bucks. This is the first dewalt 20 volt tool that has totally disappointed me to the point where I regret buying it, out of a dozen or so various 20 volt ... MoreI purchased this thinking this would be absolutely perfect for a somewhat compact and portable cordless heat gun to be used for wherever I might be working on anything that might require heat shrink tubing.
