The type 1/41 cutting wheel guard can be bought on Amazon under the Black & Decker brand. $24. For the "One-touch" guard system. Hope this helps. DeWalt should get their act together better when organizing accessories for their products. They have this problem with other products and models, they seem to indicate accessories can't be available but they really are available under a different name or part number. Besides that, this product is awesome. 5 stars.

I just purchased this grinder and when I tried to cut a piece of thin wall hollow tube it overheated my 2 batteries. Then, to add insult to injury, it took a long time for the batteries to cool off enough to try and charge them.Lost time = Lost business!! = lost income!!! Thanks DeWalt. No where in the manual does it mention anything about needing a certain battery to operate or how to avoid overheating batteries. Very ( extremely ) disappointed in my favourite “go to” tool maker.

I have had Dewalt electric grinders, palm sanders as well as drills for over thirty years and never had any problems with them. I started using their battery drills and even the battery powered chainsaw for pruning and camping. They are all great products and now I have also just bought a new angle grinder. It is very powerful at 18 volt as are the others. I use them on my old wooden boat when needed as I have no power there. Also out on the farm and anywhere needed when we are away. Just the best battery gear. Top equipment from dewalt!

I work for a self-storage company and once a month, I am cutting off locks for auctions. I have always used DeWalt grinders so I was happy my new employer gave me this one. Unfortunately, this particular model is not up to the job. If I am lucky, I can get through 1-1/2 disc locks on one battery. However, the batteries get so hot, the grinder shuts down and I have to put it in time out for 10-15 minutes before I can continue, usually with the second battery. I had to borrow an associate's XR grinder to finish the job (which I did on one battery with 8 locks to cut). I'm very disappointed in this tool but I didn't get to chose it. Works fine as a grinder. I wouldn’t use anything less than a 6 battery for it. The 2 battery will last 2-3 min. Not great as a cutoff tool. Requires a small adapter ring for the cutoff disk to fit. It’s a very hard part to keep track of. Lost mine in the bottom of the tool box somewhere. Figured I’d buy another one. No part number in the manual. No part number on the website. I called dewalt and was told they do not have a part number for that. Bottom line is it works fine until you lose a small additional part. Then you have a $160 grinder but that’s all it can do.
From the amount of time I have been able to use this it is great, haven't done any grinding, but did use cutoff wheels. It cut great, didn't have to charge battery for the task I did. I truly believe in the brushless "stepper motor" tools, they are fast and powerful. One problem I did encounter is after years of using the typical spanner wrench to tighten cutting wheel, this did not come with the traditional type of wrench. I had an Allen wrench included in the box. The bag where the extra handle and wrench normally would be was torn open and the Allen wrench put in. I was sent a new unit as a warranty replacement, it came with the Allen wrench also. Bought this to use type 1 this cutting wheels for work, but it only comes with a type 27 (open-side) guard. Called DeWalt to get a type 1 guard. They gave me part #643772-00. Got this guard but it cannot be used on this tool because the guard uses a clamp-on fastener and the tool has a ratcheting release lever fastener. Called DeWalt again to see how to install this type 1 guard and was told to read the user's manual. Called a factory service center. The guy there researched the part and the tool and said there is no type 1 guard made for this tool. I returned the tool and now I am looking for a tool that will do what I need to do.
This grinder is sturdy and easy to use. The cordless design give the user great flexibility when grinding out of doors. The only thing lacking was a disk wrench. That is not exactly true as it dd come with a hex wrench that does the job well enough. The only problem is that it's hard to keep up with the hex key (Allen Wrench). It would be nice if there was some way to store the hex key with (inside?) the grinder handle. If you take the grinder to the field and forget the Allen key, you're out of luck if you want to change a disk. The other reality is that the batteries don't last too long if doing heavy grinding. I went through 4 batteries and still didn't finish my job recently. That is not the grinder's fault. But I wanted more portability, and since I own several other DeWalt 20V cordless tools, that made the decision to buy this one easy.WHAT A DIFFERENCE! 8000 RPM, much more torque and power than the cheapie corded one. I have used it as a grinder (they even supply the first wheel), also for cutting small limts as a mini chain saw with a wheel for that, and to "grind" down exposed roots from trees that my mower hits, using a wood shaping wheel. I generally use it one handed, as kickbacks are minimal, but the side handle can add extra stability, and it screws in either side. So I was without it for over a week while I got around to getting it replaced.If I let a battery cool but not recharge, it will run my drill or impact driver for a significant time before requiring a charge.The lesson is, for less that 15 minutes of grinding, you need more than 2 hours of charge time. Dewalt does have 3, 4, 5 and 6 amp 20vMax batteries. I would like to try one but they are expensive and I have not needed one that badly yet. I do wonder if the larger 5 or 6 amp battery will heat up as much as these 2 amps I have. I am surprised the manual does not recommend a battery for this. I notice when you buy a grinder with a battery instead of a bare model, it comes with 5 amp batteryI would hold out for the brushless model if I could do it over. If you have extending grinding to do, get your extension cord out!!!
